The Taken Kings Scam Debate.
Many people who have not payed for TTK have been locked out of the the content that was previously purchased and find it unfair. ( Me for one)
Others defend the game on the basis that it is worth it and being forced to buy the game to get your content back is completely fair .
I will be looking back on here from time to time. So with that Adios!!
Note : This is not just a blind argument we are here to find common ground and make the game better.

So many people think that companies can do whatever they want, whenever they want and that isn't true. Companies get in trouble all the time with bad ToS agreements, false advertising, throttling, ect... But in this case, I think the only thing Bungie did wrong is not prompting you to agree to use the new version of their software. You should have a choice to decline the Update/ToS and return the game.

I intended on waiting to see content with ttk before I purchased. I would have probably bought it anyways until I saw how they pretty much took alot of content away from any non ttk owners. Yes, people can cite the euala to there heads spin, it still doesn't mean it was the right choice. So based on a dumb decision by bungie, I will not buy ttk and probably no future expansions. Plenty of other games that could take my time and money before I pay a subscription based game that isn't worth it imo.

You can still play all missions, strikes, raids and crucible included on the base game you just don't have as much selection with regards to level difficultly or game modes for crucible but the content you paid for is still there. I admit it kinda sucks u can't buy legendary gear but imo if u haven't bought any of the DLCs you shouldn't go higher than lvl 30 cos that's all you've paid for, VOG is your end game content after all.

This stuff happens all the time in MMOs new content is released and old content is pushed aside and you are limited with what you can do if you don't purchase the new content. The game may not be a MMO but Bungie is sure as hell treating its expansion content like it is an MMO. Take World Of Warcraft for example a hugely popular MMO which is a subscription model with a free and paid version of the game, now compare the free version to the paid - With the Starter Edition you can: Create new characters. Level any character up to 20. Earn up to 10 gold per character. Level any profession up to 100. Chat in /say and /party. Whisper your friends. With a paid version you can: Expansion content (quests, zones, etc). Characters above level 20. Pet Battles. Other chat channels and whispers to non-friends. All guild-related functions. Value added services (character transfers, faction changes, etc). Party formation. Battlegrounds. Trade, mail, or the Auction House. Voice chat or Real ID. Destiny is essentially the same thing, you paid for the game you get your content you can still play Missions and PvP from the base game and what ever expansion content you own, purchase more content you have access to more of the game same as WoW. Pay more you get more but if you dont pay more you still have what you where giving, yes while Bungie may has slightly limited certain things by moving around playlists and stuff its essentially the same thing as mentioned above but bitching and crying over it and calling it a scam is not going to help. We clearly know what direction Bungie is taken this game, we already know that another 2 DLC's are already planned for Destiny and I can bet you anything they are going to be like Expansion 1 & 2 and be sold for $20 each with a season pass for $35. If you don't buy the DLC you are going to be left behind and locked off from content at this point in the game if you are not willing to continue to buy the future DLC to continue the game then just stop playing. Because this "I've been locked off from content because I did not purchase the DLC" is only going to get worse and worse with every new expansion they release. Let's be honest here people after the release of The Taken King do you really think Destiny 2 is actually a thing? I think "Destiny 2" is just going to be a massive expansion for the base game of Destiny and they will sell "Destiny 2" as a different Legendary Edition which contains the base game and past expansions just like they did with The Taken King Legendary Edition. I'm calling it now that's what is going to happen.

I'm lockd out too and don't see any content unavailable that we've paid for... Think about it is it fair to make nightfalls and other end game lower level for people who chose not to further support destiny? Or is is fair to continue to make challenging content for people who do support destiny? If nightfall was Lvl 34 it would be way to easy for people who can get to level 40 and above 170 light

It isn't right to take away form players content previously enjoyed. It has hurt Destiny for sure. Instead of creating content you want to buy, they are reduced to forcing people to buy it. You simply can't keep playing if you don't buy Destiny 2. I bought TTK in hopes of Destiny getting it right.

Well, you are going the wrong way about it. A petition showing that you want to still play the game without the Taken King itself would has been a nice way to do it. But they already said it you can't progress without it and they was trying to make it so Nightfall is not always necessary to be played(assuming to my understanding) but this "10+ years Gamer" speaking not a "White Knight of Destiny"...... I have hated reviews because it destroy you from what playing video games it all about have fun because we look reviews we see "4 out of 10" then we walk away from it instead of playing it ourselves and us decide if it good. Now that being a sheep because we follow the words of others because we think they are right but you never think to ask "do I like it" If you haven't played a game that you liked that has weak reviews then you are no true gamer because you only experience others hype and not yourself own. Now, I not going tell you the whole "buy or leave" All I going ask is this. Do you like this game? And if you do, show some fate in it. Wait for it I don't care but those who loves their game give them feedback instead bad mouth it that show lack of fate. [spoiler]Just in case, the game I'm referring to is old,WWE Raw 2 for Xbox got bad reviews but me and my (now 19 year old) younger brother enjoyed it but after 10 years reviewer had a change of heart(I just checked).[/spoiler]

You never bought the nightfall, or the weekly heroic. You never bought IB. You never really bought ToO. Those are all endgame events and activities that roll along with the latest DLC. What you paid for was the vanilla story, strikes, raid, and gear. When TDB and HoW came out, players who didn't pay for those expansions still kept all their original content, [i]and[/i] Bungie let them have the vendor gear (at higher levels) for [i]free[/i]. The year 1 maps are now available to everyone [i]for free[/i]. They have been more than fair. The lockouts now are mostly due to levels. You can't go past 34 w/o TTK (which is perfectly reasonable). So how in the hell do you expect to be able to do a level 42 NF, or a Level 41 heroic? What makes you think you could compete against light level 280+ in IB or ToO, when your own is capped at around 170? You want to play those endgame activities? Do what the rest of us did and buy the expansion. Don't want to buy it? Fine. That's your choice. Play what you paid for and quit whining. [spoiler]Technically you didn't buy anything but the license to play the game. Bungie could replace all the weapons with marshmallow guns, and you still wouldn't have the right to complain. As I said, they've gone above and beyond what was called for to satisfy their customers, yet people still complain. [/spoiler]

I think we have to keep in mind that bungie ONLY cares about people buying the next thing they sell. They have proven time and time again in the past year that they have no respect for the consumer and will lie and cheat their way through year 1 to 10. If you morally can come to terms with this and forsee their deceptive ways then keep paying. If not, cut yourself off from any destiny news because it will be too tempting to buy the newest stuff :)
