I just don't get it. What is so great about drinking below the legal age? I am a junior and see nothing good about it. You drink and drive, you get into an accident. You drink, you end up in bed with someone who may have a STD. You drink, you pass out and feel like shit the next morning? Just, why? I hate being a teenager because I've never felt interested in activities like smoking, drinking, etc. But a lot of other people do it. Not all of them are bad people. Some of them are actually really nice. But because of this lifestyle that could get me in trouble if I associate with them outside of school, I couldn't play the card. My parents would also be disappointed. What's so great about it? Please tell me.

I saw no reason to drink before the legal age either. No reason to risk it and you'll probably have plenty of time (and a much better setting) to do it later. Good on you for waiting. It's definitely better to drink when you can just enjoy it and not hide it. Maybe just surround yourself with people who won't try to pressure you into drinking when you aren't ready/don't want to yet. The important thing is to wait until you want to and can do so comfortably/safely (and don't forget to pound down a tall drink of water/Gatorade before you go to bed after drinking to reduce your hangover).

1 답변*shrugs* I'm in college and haven't touched a drink in my life. Unless I was getting it for my dad or someone. In which case I've touched a lot, but haven't had any.

When I was in high school, I only did it in trustworthy company, and never to the point of getting blackout wasted. You know it will be a part of your life someday, it's pretty unavoidable. Better to prepare yourself for it now

People drink to get a buzz and forget about work and be more social. People have a much better time and they don't overthink anything. However to me, anyone below 21 shouldn't really need alcohol to loosen up, as they are still young enough to be adequately social on their own. People below 16 who drink are just immature and trying to look rebellious. That is why you hear about it more than it probably even happens. For 16-21 year olds, drinking should not be necessary, but depending on who you are being sober at a party might make you feel left out, but if you are having a good time already, don't drink. Also the cons you mentioned are only for binge drinkers or people who drink to a beyond excessive point for attention. You should NEVER drink more than enough to get a buzz because then you will feel far more negatives than positives. Getting buzzed comes with minimal consequence.

That's why you drink in moderation. A few beers will get you a nice buzz. A buzz is nice because it naturally just makes you happy. It's a lot like when you play a new game for the first time (assuming your a gamer) and the dopamin is released in your brain which naturally makes you happy/worry free. Now you're probably wondering why you wouldn't just play a game instead of drink. The difference between the two is that drinking gives you a more unique form of happiness that not only makes you happy mentally, but physically. And the best part is, unlike dopamin from things like video games or movies or other activities and hobbies, it never gets old (as long as its done in moderation). And what's even better is combining your hobbies with drinking. When I work a long day its nice to come home to a few beers and some video games with good friends. Hopefully that clears things up. Don't drink and drive. I've drunken underage many times and its totally fine if you're in a safe and secure environment.
