In the context of Transphobia and Homophobia, I've seen a few people on b.net play the "Hurr, that's not what Phobia means" card, and it's seriously one of the best ways to make yourself look like an absolute tool. The above screenshot was taken from the website of the Oxford Dictionary, which I personally view as a much more trustworthy source than some edgy 14 year old looking for cheap upvotes on b.net.
For those too lazy to go to the effort of a single click, Oxford Dictionary defines "Phobia" as, 'an extreme or irrational fear or aversion to something." Note the term "aversion." It doesn't just mean fear, but encompasses a dislike or disinclination of something, too.
Check your shit, kids. It saves trouble.

2 답변MessyTundra... Why? I don't know what's more disturbing, the fact that we might have a rogue homosexual on Bnet or that you're straight and went through the trouble of actually searching for these pictures.

작성자: Kamots 8/30/2015 3:42:33 PMThe way phobia is used in that sense is not the medical definition of the word. More so a social take on the term. I'd like to point out that using the version of phobia as is typically meant by the term "homophobia" is not in itself as strong as many people seem to think it is. There are many Christophobes, particularly on this forum, but I doubt anyone would think twice about it. Just as one example. If you are going to call out people in this way, call out everyone who does it and perhaps even explain why it happens. People use the term homophobia to mean a lot of things, similar to how people use the term feminists to include feminazis. Many people have a problem with that, so there should be a problem with lumping too many things to other terms as well.

23 답변It also has irrational as a qualifier, so they don't qualify as phobic. Aversion to gay sex is not irrational, it's an evolutionary advantage.
