Iunno, you think they'd let us artists help pitch ideas to them? I've noticed they've only just reskin guns and then change the name. I've seen a lot better ideas from players like us. I've even got some ideas too. 0[]o maybe some contest?

The problem is the insane amount of time it takes to make a mid to high poly model and then make several textures(this looks like it needs at least an albedo map, normal map, heightmap, emissive map, and an alpha channel. It could also do with a metallic map, but they could also use a shader for that). The fan art is all fine, but it's not as simple as you think to implement it.

I agree to an extent. They do have a benchmark of quality to meet for designs and such so not every idea would even be considered. Hell, even mine here is pretty mediocre even though it seems like community feedback is fantastic. I'd have to put much more time, effort and research to actually come close to meeting their design benchmarks. Also on the weapons thing, they can't exactly make a new gun model for everything. It's acceptable that say, vendor weapons (thus far) are just reskins because it is the same weapon archetype and there has only been one weapon foundry (The tower/city). Now with the Taken King, what you're looking for guns-wise looks like it'll be granted. With all those new weapon foundries and faction specific gear, it really looks like weapon aesthetic variation is inbound and coming with a vengeance.
