Personally, I think this would be a great way to introduce microtransactions into the game. Have an exotic you want brought forward into Year 2? For the low price of $2.99, you can purchase a Redbull™ Exotic Booster and optimize your gameplay by how you want to play! No more being restricted by having guns left in the dust.
Gjallarhorn and Hardlight, here I come!
Edit: I'm going to get a lot of hate for endorsing microtransactions, so here is my reasoning:
Microtransactions would reduce the prices of DLC, not to mention the fact that the revenue would go to better storytelling and mechanic implementation. In addition, the revenue generated would also go towards server maintenance and care, so that we would get kicked less often. Microtransactions are an invaluable part of the gaming industry.
Edit 2: For The Idiots
Those who wish to utilize microtransactions should do so. For those of you who don't want to use them? Guess what? You don't have to use them.

Look at it from a gaming perspective, do you want to pay to win? Do you think it's fair when teams pay referees? Same principle, your paying for an advantage over others. The problem with your idea is, people will sink more and more money into the game and Bungie/Activision will keep DLC costs as is cuz they would know how much their customers are paying for the Micro-Transaction. Just play the Game and who cares if some exotics are being left behind, who wants to use a year 1 weapon that won't be useful in year 10?

There are larger holes in your logic than that iceberg put in the titanic (I had another thought, but it was NSFW, so I left that one out). The naivety about how the revenue would be spent is the cherry on the cake.

For everyone saying how bad micro transactions are, you're dumb. Most micro transactions are fine. The problem becomes when they are in a multiplayer game and more than cosmetics. It creates divides in the game. But if they wanna do it for shaders which they kinda already did, or ghost shells it won't be a big deal. But should they do it for weapons or real stat based armor the game will be over faster than a horse race.
