It is definitely a problem in the U.S. and it has been for so many years. But if something is to be done, you need to be realistic about it. The truth is that banning all guns in America wouldn't work, not because people would be defenseless, not because only criminals will have guns, nothing like that. The problem is that there is already too many guns in America, making them illegal won't make them disappear, and too many people will be unwilling to give them up and given the cultural significance of guns in the U.S. it would completely divide the country and it would almost definitely escalate into a second civil war, so the thing is there needs to be a give and give on both sides otherwise the debate will never end and people will continue to be killed due to easy access to firearms, people can continue to argue and shout the same arguments like they have been for decade after decade but you will never succeed, there needs to be common sense legislation. The best things I can think of is this. -Bring back the Assault Weapons Ban. Firearms for use of responsible activities such as hunting, sport, recreation and home protection stay legal, but Assault Weapons: Military grade weapons converted for civilian use, weapons that are designed for prolonged combat and warfare are simply too dangerous and powerful for civilian use and have no place on the streets. -Expanded and Universal Background Checks. Right now it is simply too easy for anyone to obtain a firearm even under the current background check system, there are too many ways for people to get around this and obtain a firearm, those who should not have a gun such as those with criminal records, domestic abusers, felons, mental illnesses etc. need to be made sure they don't get their hands on firearms. -Close the Gun Show Loophole. This is not a myth like many people claim, it exists, it's real, it's been proven, and it's dangerous, private sales should not be able to sell firearms without a background check, they should not be as easy to get as a loaf of bread. -Get money out of Politics. Right now lobbying is a huge problem in Washington, there needs to be a constitutional amendment overturning Citizens United, money should not be able to influence the decisions of officials and elections, as long as this continues to happen nothing will be able to get done, if there is to be any common sense legislation this needs to be done first. I'm open to any other ideas that make sense, if not any of these ideas there needs to be [b][u]something[/u][/b], [b][u]anything![/u][/b] I don't care what it is, if anything can curb the problem then by all means. The truth is that you can continue to remain divided and argue all you want, you will get nowhere.

Well, I wouldn't mind people having like a shotgun, bolt action, or magnum. Really no civilian use for assault weapons though
