Edit: Since writing this, more news has come out. Apparently Bungie have been holding back answers for a Game informer cover story. So far I've read: Dinklebot is no more. All ghost dialogue being redone by Nathan Drake actor. No new vault space. No Legendary gear ascension. No light levels. We actually level to 40 (curios how they'll start existing players) No announcement I've seen on matchmaking ---Original Post--- [quote]“I definitely feel like some of our players are ready to play with some new toys,” says creative director Luke Smith. “And we’ve built a whole bunch of new toys. There are definitely some weapons that you are going to find better versions of – there’s going to be something that replaces that sniper rifle that you love.” [/quote] Greetings fellow Guardians, It seems we finally have an answer on gear ascension and it is kind of confusing as to why we get this information from Gameinformer. We've been on the forums asking about this for the last month and it's kind of sad that Bungie can't communicate directly with us. This isn't anything we didn't really know was coming and it's always exciting to try new weapons... Until they turn out to be worse than the old weapons (like was the case with much of both expansions so far). Will TTK give us true upgrades? I guess we have no choice but to find out. As we play today, I use vanilla heavy weapons, TDB specials and HoW primaries (and I'd probably still be using Wizard 77 and my original snipers over the later gear if I hadn't dismantled them since they didn't initially ascend). There are a couple things about this decision that I think are worth questioning. 1) The article seems to imply that only Legendaries won't ascend. That is great for the people who use Exotic primaries, but for those that use Legendaries, we're going to have to re-find weapons capable of competing against the Thorns, TLWs, Red Deaths and soon to be rebuffed Suros. I spent a lot of time putting together my Scouts and getting them setup how I like to be able to counter the so called God guns. If I lose the perk combinations that I feel comfortable with, I'm not sure what higher damage numbers will do for me. To this end, I would like Bungie to explain in detail exactly what the new weapon perks entail, how upgrades will work going forward and whether or not we will still be able to reforge them. If I'm back to relying on rng to get 3rd eye or full auto, I'm going to be more than annoyed. 2) Unless there is something in the pipe for August like the Ether Chest hunts pre-HoW, Bungie just made playing this game until September pretty pointless. What am I supposed to do with the 4 Etheric Light I just got from Iron Banner? Is Etheric Light going to have any purpose going forward or is it the new Commendation? If it's going the way of the Dodo, it really makes me question who is steering this ship that they can't nail down a currency system a year past release. If Exotics are still going to ascend, I guess there are people who still need to find some. For the rest, Nightfalls, PoE, ToO and raids just became incredibly pointless. Which brings me to... 3) I've said this before and I'll say it again here. I would rather have lots of cool new sh*t to shoot with my old weapons I love, than shoot at the same old sh*t with new weapons. Up until now the actual depth of content in this game has been pretty lacking. The mechanics are fun as hell and I love my abilities and weapons, but I find myself sitting in orbit more than playing when it's not IB week because [b]WITHOUT MATCHMAKING[/b], there's not a whole lot to do. I'm very curious to see how TTK changes that. We've had the write up on the Dreadnaught and what I got out of it was that we won't really know what we're doing and will have to keep going back to figure it out. It actually sounds like the approach they took to the raids and that could be a very cool thing for actual gameplay if done right and if it's truly rewarding to unravel the mysteries. In the mean time HoW is pretty much dead and friends lists continue to decline at alarming rates. Without a pre-expansion event for August, I'd be seriously concerned how many people make it until September. 4) Which is why announcing this in GI is a shitty approach. An announcement like this should include reasons to keep logging in until the new weapons arrive. All this does is alienate people more. I would say the biggest disappointment for me since the release of HoW has been the decision to not include matchmaking for endgame content, but the second biggest disappointment has been seeing so many people just stop playing the game altogether. Through TDB it didn't matter what time of day or night I logged on, there were always people playing. Since about the second week of HoW, the numbers have dwindled more each passing week. I keep waiting for Bungie to get their shit together and put together an update, interview or anything that will make people say "oh shit, that's cool" and log back in. Instead we get the DeeJ and Luke show. [quote]Luke: Throw money at your screen! DeeJ: Old weapons are boooooring! DeeJ: We'll talk more next week! Luke: There are some weapons you'll find better versions of! DeeJ: We believe part of the challenge is finding groups![/quote] This shit is just insane. It's like they have never read a single (non-nerf) post on the forums before. [b]5) Will year 2 gear ascend to at least the end of year 2?[/b] Because if I'm just re-leveling all new gear until the next expansion drops 3 months later, f**k that. I'm already annoyed that after finally getting gear that I love on my Titan, I might be going back to hating how my characters look again. I can deal with gear resetting yearly, but any more often than that is just a bullshit ploy to grind hours leveling gear instead of giving us content to use it on. 6) This is all assuming exotics are ascending. If not, how sweet will it be that one week into year 2, new players will have the exact same gear as us? Epilogue: So basically at this point I think Bungie are in dire need of communication courses. TTK may be the most fun thing since mentos and diet coke, but they sure aren't doing a very good job in selling it. At what point do they stop telling us what we want Destiny to be and start actually implementing QoL improvements that we've been asking for since launch? Are you trying to give me a fun game to play and enjoy? If so, I want to be able to play with randoms and not have to browse an app or website to do it. I want to feel like my character is uniquely me and badass. There are many comparisons to WoW and other mmo's and one of the biggest complaints that WoW faced over the years was having to lose favorite looks for characters which led to Transmogrification. Are we going to get a similar technique at some point? I'd hate to dismantle gear since our vault space blows a** only to find later on that I could have this armor look again. (still pissed at dismantling Cryptic Dragon, Wizard 77 and Shadow Price). It's time to stop with all the "Oh, we'll tell you in the coming weeks" bs and start giving some real information on the in-depth plans for this game going forward. It's time to start giving us reasons that we care and are passionate about that will make this game fun to play in year 2 and beyond. Because at this point all I see coming from you is that you want us to grind gear just to grind more gear.       Have you guys seen this? BDobbinsFTW Goes off on Destiny Again! I mean. Its pretty funny. Agree or disagree with what he says. He does have a few good points. He is putting down Destiny pretty bad. But at the same time he is showing off the Crucible gameplay. And looks like the guy is kicking ass and having a great time. I mean do you think that might be a little bit hypocritical? The guy whoever he is in the video is definitely enjoying Destiny. And at the same time he is speaking negatively about it. What do you think? I think that getting the game early gives you access to it, and lets you play. Thats why you would pay full price for it. If I wait a year. Yea it will cost less. But my friends would already be done with the game by then. Why should he care what I spend my money on? And yes, even though Destiny characters have no emotional connection. We do have some emotional connection with Destiny weapons. As those have really become the characters in Destiny. The Icebreakers, The Fatebringers, The Vision of Confluence, The Gjally, TLW, Thorn, Red Death etc... Those were the characters I became attached to, while playing Destiny. I know that Queen is just some bitch who doesn't even show her face more than 2 times, and I didn't really care about House of Wolves. So some of his points do make a little bit of sense. And Crota wasn't even scary. He was just some supersized Knight. Compared to the memorable Halo story which made us think about the place of humanity in the universe. We guardians are protecting what? I haven't even met any characters I feel are worth protecting. We don't know why we fight. Whats the point? Agree or disagree with him, he does seem to be pretty intelligent, and makes a compelling argument.

        Props. Every time these guys from Bungie speak, they contradict themselves, hide behind vague answers for the sake of the anonymity we discussed the other day, or flat out hide because any obligation to uphold any statement they make to better the game for the community needs to be scrutinized by their bosses (Jason jones who appears every 10 years) before implementation so it can be evaluated for extreme financial gain and manipulation post existence. Here's a novel idea. Since Bungie is copying and pasting stats into new weapon skins and designs from older weapons, (dry rot vs horseman shotgun, pretty much all queens wrath weapons vs existing faction weapons etc), LEAVE the currently existing gear community earned and ground to earn for hours ALONE, and solve the problem LUKE SMITH voiced when stating him and his Dev team couldn't figure out [i]how to show their guardians were there when[/i] fill in the blank. The code for my crash shotgun exists in-game. Copy and paste it to whatever other gun you want. That weapon you copy the stats to can be a COPY of my shotgun. Let [u]them[/u] have a copied version of what I earned day 1. With a different skin. Mine is original from launch. Let others have the copy. Let them grind all over again. RE-playability is based on [b][i][u]FUN FACTOR[/u][/i][/b], not [i]you being azzholes stripping my gear of relevancy to grind for new gear you're going to nullify again the next DLC.[/i]. Or are you at Bungie too inept to know what RE-playability is, that you think you need to strip players of their work so they need to RE-earn it. Duh. Example: I've got a full auto crash shotgun etheric leveled to 365 with void. I haven't seen other players with it forever. It was obtained in the first 12 days of playing. Yet, Bungie, who it's Devs have no idea how to show "guardians were there when" are dis-allowing the ability to ascend that legendary beyond it's current state. Yet after almost 8 months of waiting for the ability to ascend it to 365 with it sitting in the vault, Bungie [b]who doesn't know how to show guardians were there when[/b] fill in the blank.... are phasing out it's capacity for relevance when TTK launches. O_O Not only are they stupid. They lack the common sense necessary to continue the production of this game. Not a suprise they didn't share the info directly with consumers. Theyre cowards. Like "don't show up for 10 years" cowards. You want our money. Yet you won't step forward and be honest about what you're doing to get it. Looking forward to halo, division, HOMEFRONT 2, and pong. Good read Sols. As always.

          • Deff agree man. I'm backing your opinion 100% Matchmaking is the most important topic right now. What other game makes you search for a team on a totally diff website. It requires other players to complete certain end game content. And deej's response is just lazy and ignorant. I don't want to waste my time looking for people I already spend enough grinding shit out. How much more grinding do they want? Not to mention no one plays anymore. Lack of content lost 99% of my friends list. So now finding a full 6 man team is about as easy as getting a gally and icebreaker from the same vanguard dragon strike. All in all. Bungie needs to listen to us and stop telling us they're listening bc so far actions speak more than words and they've fixed everything but the core issues. But I think we're a little to far gone now to worry about; story, content, leveling, rng, pricing, [b]matchmaking[/b], vault space, dedicated servers, I'm done ranting.......

            • They are doing a great job of convincing us to stop playing and not buy ttk. Your efforts are appreciated Lost sols but at some point we need to recognise its a lost cause. There are many more worthy causes to fight for in life that most are unaware of or if they are dont care about and choose to ignore. The safety of child vaccines being one. The corruption of the capitalist system and inequality another. Toxic chemicals in consumer and building products. The food industry and obesity. Most of it is all linked to profits over people and the environment. Its kind of what bungievision are doing with this game but the consequenses arent nearly so dramatic. The thing is most dont see it or ignore it cause its easier to and we distract ourselves with entertainment which is abundance. They are tough issues to face. Anyway just thought I would raise the point with you as I do admire the effort you put into voicing community issues with the game and not meaning to minimise it but more just highlight their is great need for more people like yourself in the world to raise awareness of the widespread corruption causing huge amounts of suffering worldwide. What bungie is doing is pretty small scale in comparison.

              • This is the very reason that nobody should preorder ttk or buy it until true reviews of it are released. Otherwise people are going to keep reward them for producing mediocre content and adding very little new aspects to an already bare game. This game is clearly about the grind as it stands right now. There is no denying that and point 5 is your proof. If you have to constantly replace your current gear with higher level stuff. Why try to improve your current great bc all effort will quickly be made meaningless.

                bimp, and as usual good post. I am not interested in chasing new gear. I want new content. period. I know you said this, but I want to say it too. I want to use the set up I have already spent over 2200 hours to acquire, manipulate and get used to and if there is something I see and like and want to try out that should be my choice to make, and not one bungle makes for me IMO. I mean, how many variations of gloves with a reload bonus are there, for example, and how do their perks and stats affect my choice of other gear and how long did it take for me to get all three of my characters where I wanted them? if the point of this game is that I have to get all new kit every year then the answer to my question is WAY TOO FU(KING LONG!!! bungle's choice to use RNG for the vast majority of gear is ultimately to blame. I got my first and only Gjallahorn at 1600 hours. I have never gotten a Mythoclast, though my brother got one the first time he beat VoG on hard, even though I beat it on hard at level 29 and he did it two weeks ago at 33 or 34 (I forget). even the reforge is RNG and the reason is that everyone wants the same perks and no one wants most of the others. why not make it something you choose and have a list of reforge perks so good that you want them all and it's torture because you can only pick two (and the three slot section is always random)? that's how I would have done it! lots of choices made by bungle so far have been disappointing and there is no reason to think TTK won't also be full of bad decisions too. I'm sitting TTK out, at least until it's in the discount section and the reviews are in, and overwhelmingly positive... and monkeys fly out my butt.

                    • I'll admit... it will suck to loose my fatebringer forever, but i'm excited about some of these changes. The guardians that come in the collectors edition will get a very nice version of destiny. I'm just hoping this is going to be epic enough to get my friemds back on so i can get back to raiding.

                      • So Dinklage was replaced, like as if he was the problem and not the script he was given. Or mayhap he didn't just want to do it, or was too busy. No legendary ascension? This doesn't surprise me, but what about the raid gear? I doubt they will have adequate replacements, nothing is as effective as a Fate Bringer (or so I'm lead to believe anyway, I don't have one if my own). But it makes sense considering we are... ...not getting anymore vault space. *sigh* No light levels? Then what the hell was the point to getting all that stupid armor for? Especially since legendaries won't be ascended. They announced it in Game Informer before addressing it to the community? Classy. I guess Activision has its claws deeper in Bungie than I dreaded, because an announcement like that in a major publication sounds good for awareness, which is good for business. Shit, I'm sad to see that happen.

                        • @ Lost Sols: I appreciate your well thought out posts and hope that the effort for this actually has some benefit. For this I thank you. I do have a question regarding end game matchmaking. I think people get a better experience in the game if they make clans and play with the same people. By making the endgame without matchmaking it forces you to do this and ultimately get a better and less frustrating end game. Why would end game matchmaking be needed if everyone had access to a good clan? Rather than matchmaking, I think there need to be better clan-making tools. I don't want to play skolas with matchmade randoms. Even with lfg, I barely got through a l32 today. It was bad... They kept dying and I ended up soloing most of it. Having started and recruited my own clan, and played this game wY too much, I feel that when people ask for endgame matchmaking they really need better clan-making. I think matchmaking in it's current form with completely random teams would just cause a lot of frustration. In the case of trials I would kind of like it, because it would mean many more easy wins for the real teams in there... Cheers and thank you! Please consider my post... Pacificdune
