So there are a lot of people asking for a blink nerf at the moment and I thought I would clarify a few things so that people can see things in perspective.
Before we get into it let's look at 3 main reasons why blink is not OP. First the crucible had had 2 distinct eras so far:
- The Suros era and
- The Thorn era
Let's compare the two metas
The Suros era
Affectionately named after the dominance of the Suros Regime. This eras meta consisted of guns and play styles such as:
- Suros Regime
- Vex Mythoclast
- Hawkmoon (Sorry Xbox players you missed this)
- Pocket infinity
- Plan C
- Invective
- Auto rifles such as shadow price
- Blink/slide shotgun
- Fusion rifles with insane range
- Snipers
- Rockets/Heavy machine guns
The Suros was undoubtably the strongest gun in the game and was the main reason for the AR nerf. You had a gun that performed well at every range possible, did more damage when ADS and as the mag got lower and had a self heal effect that had a high proc rate. This guns play style although overpowered was not toxic to gameplay as most fights still came down to player skill.
The Vex Mythoclast was broken when it first released. It's TTK was ridiculously low and was swiftly nerfed.
Blink shotgun was a very popular strategy but was overshadowed by fusion rifles. In this era some fusion rifles had enough range to OHK you from 15-20 metres away. This was extremely frustrating as many fusion rifles had decent charge times and you would lose fights just because the other guy had a fusion rifle not because you got out played. Blink was one of the only ways to a avoid fusion rifles.
The Thorn era
Affectionately named after the dominance of the Thorn. This eras meta consists of guns and play styles such as:
- Thorn
- The Last Word
- Red Death
- Blink Shotgun with high impact, long range shot package shotguns
- Snipers with the inclusion of final round snipers
- Rockets with grenades and horse shoes
- WEAPON REFORGING!!!
Thorn currently is the strongest gun in the game. It's also the most toxic in terms of play style but this doesn't have much to do with blink. What really impacts blink is the addition of reforging and multiple high impact/range low rate of fire shot guns. Where this becomes problematic is the fact that blink enhances a shotguns abilities by giving you a reliable way to close distance quickly. Add the crazy OP shotguns from this meta to the mix and you have a very toxic play style.
With reforging also came many grenades and horseshoes rockets. Blink is the only reliable way to dodge this.
The second thing is map design. The majority of maps in Destiny favour close quarters combat. This means that blink shotgun becomes even stronger.
The third thing is player skill. The majority of players in this game play with 3-5 sensitivity. Which is too low to follow a blink or use it. This is one of the fire reasons why a lot of people complain about it because they can't keep up with it. Simple solution is to increase your sensitivity or play defensive. The fact that blink gives such high mobility makes it difficult for newer player or less skilled players to counter. Blink is bound by an internal cool down that activates after 2 rapid uses of the ability. This forces the player to make tough decisions while using the ability. Go too aggressive and you have no way out. Dodge too early and you are a sitting duck. Blink allows the player to dodge rockets and supers when times properly. Again a difficult thing to do but far from OP. You miss time the blink you are dead. Get it right and you are safe (Accept for fist of panic). I've seen it happen far too many times in this game where people are too lazy to learn how to counter something and just cry for a nerf
Let's sum this up. In the Suros era blink was not thought of as OP but in the Thorn era it is. It's simple. Reforging allowed us to make OP shotguns that in combination with blink create a very toxic play style. This current meta is full of OHKs and very fast TTK primaries. Both of these things are toxic to the player as they allow minimal time to react or counter play. The problem doesn't lie in the blink ability but in the ability to obtain broken shotguns, the TTK of Thorn, TLW, Red Death and final round snipers all of which are being addressed in 2.0
Wait till 2.0 drops and blink will no longer be an issue.
Edit: I'm aware of the invulnerability on blink and definitely agree that I can be frustrating when you flat out hit them at the start of the animation and they live. If you read the grimoire on blink though it does make sense.

1 답변Dude, I remember people complaining about blink shotguners back the the suros era. Blink shotguns are 95% of the reason they nerfed special ammo in the crusible. Destiny's poor map design has defiantly made the invisible, high agility, shotgun, blinky hunter have a huge advantage over other classes

3 답변One person blinking is bad enough but an entire team... its annoying as hell. The sound of an entire team blinking too.

1 답변Blink has never been an issue on this game. As of late (maybe newcomers) some players have complained about it because like op says, they're too lazy to look for solutions and just cry over an issue that is certainly not broken. Why has blink not been an issue up until the last month? Destiny has been out for almost 10 months...just saying. Some people just really cry for attention. Blink has never and will never be an issue...get over it cry babies.

1 답변This...this is beautiful :') as a Hunter only player I am your witness my good sir. I've been here since Day 1 and after you explained the PvP meta of Destiny I've been enlightened. Everyone whines about blink and nerds in general and it's annoying. What you say is true, I remember my blink not being as effect in the suros era due to the AR and it's range as well as the Vex, FRs and other things that killed blinking hunters or warlocks from a distance. Now, the mets promotes toxic cqc with shotguns and hand cannons. The main cry is about blink shotgunners and how it's hard to deal with when there is actual room for counterplay if you're skilled enough. I've always said that the problem isn't with blink it's with the shotgun. And you explained it better than I could have so thanks.

5 답변I don't recall seeing one complaint about blink before shotguns became broken, just saying. Shotguns will get nerfed. Blink will remain untouched. Auto rifles and fusion rifles will make a slight comeback, which used to be the best defence to someone charging towards you. And then there will be something new for everyone to bitch about

1 답변Never had an issue with blink, I play as all 3 classes. If you can't counter it, git gud.

4 답변Blink should have no invulnerability, should have at least a 10 second cooldown, and you should not be able to reliably aim and fire when coming right out of blink. That would balance it out. Otherwise, it is OP.
-
1 답변Lore should never effect gameplay, and using it as justification for it's function shows how desperate you are. And the statistics about player sensitive? Show data or I'm calling bs.

33 답변Blink is incredibly broken. You can over extend and be so out of position and still get away. You can blink out of grenades, rockets, and supers. You also pretty much don't take damage when you do it either. Anyone who knows anything about a competitively balanced game can see that blink is very much OP. Blink is the issue, it always has been. It's the ONLY reason people actually use the blade dancer class. Arc blade is a terrible super, and if the class didn't have blink none of the top players would even use it. Everyone would go to sunsinger.

2 답변I recently went back to playing crucible as a Titan from a hunter/warlock and wow is it harder you can't be as aggressive because lift is too slow, hell even glide is better as the warlocks can be used much more aggressive than a Titan as a Titans jump is primarily straight up. Blink is a bit OP especially on open maps, as one post said AVERAGE player sensitivity is too slow to just simply "look up and shoot." Granted, I've found ways to combat it by jumping and melee as soon as I see them blink up lol or moving forward when playing as a Titan but it's not always guaranteed of course.
-
Blink is annoying but idk about op. I play pvp pretty much only on titan and I don't use it and am not really all that concerned with it all by itself. Now add a shotgun into the mix and yeah that's just dumb. But that range is being addressed so I don't see any other issues with it at the moment. Just have to adapt and learn to play the game like all shooters. There will always be stuff that is hard to beat, and there will always be people that rely on that to stay "competitive" just the way these things go.

22 답변Only reliable way to dodge my ass. Give it to Titans, and I will no longer complain about how broken it is.

10 답변Honestly i respect the entire first post amd its a great insight but truthfully blink is cheap as hell and ppl.. Casual and non spam it all the time and get away with a lot of bs. Its so cheezy. Really fun for pve tho. I had a guy blink in and shotgun me off of a capture point. Then preceed to blink three more times in a row in the same place shotgunning three more ppl. He didnt move just kept spamming. The problem is how much and how fast it can be used. Think about it. It is essentially the power of teleportation. You can even doge rockets and nades with it. Its awesome but just not balanced. Maybe if they limit how fast and how much you can use it.

7 답변Bungie actually has data on how effective Blink is. If they are changing it, it's because it is too strong.

8 답변작성자: G24C 7/23/2015 4:23:40 PMFirst off comparing blink to eras of nerfs of guns? They don't follow each other. Blink has not changed. Not that I disagree there have been those eras of reign of gun dominance. Those have been true. Vex Nerf, pocket infinity Nerf, AR Nerf and it looks like next hand canons Nerf next. Reforging has just allowed people get guns into ways they like them faster than hoping for RNG gods give it to them. Countering blink I don't disagree either. Sensitivity is the key. This is where I disagree on the blink issue, and let me preface this with do I think Bungie will do anything about it, No I do not. Because this is the Holy GRAIL of top PVP player's! I know some and this is their baby. They talk about balance not all characters have blink. So when bungie says balance it is BS. Most of the top PVP player's use Blink! Why? This has nothing to do with what guns you have or Era of nerfs. I can get close to you before you can get a shot off. No more complicated than that. Some of the highly skilled blinkers knows the camera angle change I could be at you in a blink, pun intended. For a shotgun punch combo, melee only if shields are down, or shotgun shot. Oh by the way most of these blinkers hate the thorn because it keeps there shields down longer, making them more vulnerable. Here's where the good blinkers make a living. Let say I see some one I get a grenade on them. Shields are down, they hide behind a cover you can jump over. I could blink above them take a shot. Blink over them hit the ground and slide shotgun to them or blink slide around the baracade. To me OP part is how blink after hitting the ground I can slide the opposite direction I came from. So literally I can slide to the direction I came frome or any degree change of that. If I can do that consistently I have a huge advantage over my opponent. I don't care about guns, this is the way blink can be used to get you close to your opponent before they know it and win. Bungie and people talk about balance. But when one class does not have it how is that balance? Now before anybody says get good or just use that class. I have 1 of each character, and I use blink at times and have done what I described. My disagreement with your post has deal with comparing gun eras to blink. That to me doesn't follow. Whether blink is a problem in person pvp or not partly depends on how you define balance. If define it as all classes have the ability to use it? No it is not. In some people's skill set to use it to get up close to someone it can be Big advantage. Is it a problem? If problem and balance if the top people use it the most to non blink set ups. Which they show these graphs of thorn in iron banner to not. How about a graph of blink to not? Since that is how they are defining balance. It would be interesting to see those graphs and should blink be nerfed.
