Why do people donate to streamers?
Find it really odd, give to a charity instead!
People moan about game prices/dlc and yep they're fine with donating money to someone who will forgot you in an Instant.
Streamers are expecting donations now because of this.
You think they'll remember who you are when you donate?
They're sponging off people to earn a living.
If anyone has actually donated before please share as to why and how much!

I bet the majority of people who donate wouldn't give to the homeless either.

If you don't find it entertaining enough to donate money then that's your opinion and nothing wrong with that but there is no reason to put down those that do find it entertaining enough to donate. I find it odd however that some people call people who donate idiots yet I bet you that person either smokes, drinks, buys junk food or other things that could be deemed a waste of money too. It's your money ... as long as it's legal why should anyone care what they do with it? It's personally not my thing and only check out Twitch when there is some new content or game available and I am bored at work or on lunch break.

I guess what confuses me is that I get the exact same service (provided I choose to watch a stream) for exactly 0 dollars compared to the donor. I understand you want to support your streamers to allow them to continue their service, but I promise a lot of them would continue just to remain popular and semi famous even if never receiving donations. Granted, they could not make a living off of it then, which may be good for people like shesmynerd who stream A LOT of hours of the day. I suppose what I am trying to say is that it is possible to debunk two prominent counter arguments from streamer supporters. 1.) It's just like any other movie, play, etc that you pay to be entertained Not true as those who enjoy the movie pay to go see it while I (not paying) would not get this right. When applied to streaming, we both get the same entertainment value (donor vs. non donor) while the non donor never forks over any cash. 2.) It's just like watching sports. Firstly, the principle of attending a game in person for the atmosphere and paying to do so has already been covered by the entertainment argument in point 1. Secondly, As far as pro and even college sports, the vast majority of the population cannot compete with the athletes playing and would require intense training from a young age to do so. So they realize they are not as good as the players on the tv and thus get entertainment from watching them. Destiny has only been out a year and any person (shesmynerd will be my example, though he is quite good) could pick up a controller and play non stop until they are considered 'streamer level.' At this point they could easily be actually playing the game against other top competition instead of watching for entertainment. I'm sure great counter arguments are being thought of as people are reading this. I will parlay them as best as possible and have my mind open to anything that would change my opinion that donating to streamers is a misguided expenditure.

1 답변I dunno. Maybe for the same reason people throw money at strippers. Your guess is as good as mine. Although in my opinion, I'd rather donate to a stripper just because I'd rather have a strange woman giving me a lap dance, then to some streamer who plays the same game I am already playing. Who knows, to each their own.

I agree with you sometimes i see like a Guy donating a Total of 5k in 1hour for no purpose. He just says i feel bad i was gonna fck a bitch and Pay her but she didn't show so he donated the money. I never donate but i do subscribe sometimes only if they interact with chat and me and answer questions. If they don't Then you know what kinda streamer they are. Usually i come by few days in a row talk some and lurk some before i subscribe... You gotta earn it am i right ?

Watching a streamer is the equivalent to watching sports, golf, a poker tournament etc. They are at the top of their game and just doing something they like to. If you happen to watch them thats cool but at the end of the day you're still a viewer to someone else doing something. People donate to support that person and so they can keep entertaining. I watched someone raise $45k for a charity the other day just because he could. Are you going to tell that streamer what he does and his viewers who helped that cause are dumb and need something better to do with their lives and money?

2 답변I completely agree. It's stupid. For everyone saying it's like a sport etc...no its not at all. For one, if I wanted to go a be a football player (soccer to our friends across the pond) it's psychically impossible since I'm 26, you need to be spotted at around 10-12 years old and train for your entire life. So I watch it as I can never play on a professional pitch. Now take drifting, I don't watch it, because I went and bought a second car and took it to drift days, couple years on I often have people desperate to get in the passenger seat with me as I'm fairly skilled. Now video games, anyone of any age of ability can pick up a controller and go play crucible, it's a very very easy pvp mode (with the level balance and aim assist etc) that anyone can go in an get some kills. Yes some are better than others, but literially you're paying someone to watch them play the game you have sat there next to you, and if have the people watching spent as much time playing you could be just as good as some of these streamers.

You could spend your free time working in a soup kitchen, caring for disabled animals, or working at a suicide hotline. Instead, you're here telling people what they should spend their money on. If you really cared about charities you wouldn't be here worrying about what streamers are doing.

10 답변Who says you can't give to charity and streamers. Paying for entertainment isn't a new thing. And giving money to homeless people isn't a good idea here in Amsterdam. Most of them just buy weed or beer with it. Better to give to homeless shelters or give them food or food for their dog

I turned off the phone looked at the wife and said "honey, the world's gone full retard " . Donating to someone who plays a videogame for fun is the dumbest thing somebody could do.

I'm a streamer and I don't look forward to donations.... Matter of fact really the only ppl that watch me play are my buddies that are at work bored and want to see how I do in trials or just bitch talk me about how bad I am lol its just fun for me
