A dozen or so new threads about Thorn and how OP it is and it needs a nerf pops up everyday. However, most arguments about nerfing Thorn is emotional rather than logical. Most people get frustrated by the poison and slow recovery of Thorn rather than anything else. Many times people are not even killed by the Thorn user, they are killed by the next opponent who comes along when they are poisoned.
Argument #1. Thorn kills me too fast and nothing can stand up to it. When I actually look up most people who make this statement, they are usually using an AR. Considering that AR have the longest TTK in crucible, Thorn will dominate it vast majority of the time. I have seen people with the TLW, Hawkmoon, Red Death, The messenger, Bad Juju, and Mida crush Thorn users. So it is not be all and end all weapon.
Argument #2. Thorn requires no skills. If Thorn requires no skills than every individual who uses a thorn must have a insanely high K/D ratio. If you actually take a look, you will see that most Thorn users just like most crucible players in general have a K/D of less than 1.
Argument #3. I would win at Trials if everyone didn't carry a Thorn. I seen groups who carry thorn themselves, complain that Thorn is ruining trials because they are not as effective with it as good players. If you have the same gun as the other group and you lose, it is you and not the gun.
Argument #4. I refuse to use a Thorn because it is for scrubs. Most people who make this statement, have tried using it and got owned so they get frustrated by the fact they cannot dominate like some other Thorn users. Now if you do well with it and put it aside for a weapon that puts at a disadvantage, then I say you are not thinking strategically.
Argument #5. Thorn is so OP no one uses anything but Thorn in Trials. If all players have deviated toward the same weapon, in actuality, the game has eliminated the weapon factor and reduced winning to player's skill set. If all players are using Thorn, the most skilled player will win every time.
Having said all this, I am not saying that the Crucible is completely balanced and perfect. Can crucible be improved? Absolutely. However, Thorn is not what breaking crucible. The balance people are looking for will not be attained by simply nerfing Thorn. I can tell you that TLW is by far the most deadly hand cannon in crucible. If it is wielded by an expert user, it will crush everything. That gun just does not stand out because it is harder weapon to use but far more deadly. If Thorn is nerfed, that will be the immediate next gun that people will complain about. When TLW is nerfed, another gun will take its place.
Edit: Wow tons of responses with some really good points. I want to clarify that I'm not for or against nerfing Thorn. If it gets nerfed (which I think it will soon) then it gets nerfed. What I was trying to point out was the bigger picture that Thorn is not nearly as big as problem as most people have made it out to be. Everyone is so caught up with this Thorn issue (for or against) that there is not enough focus on how broken the overall experience of crucible actually is. Some items that come to me that precedes Thorn are:
-atrocious and constant lag in crucible and garbage netcode
- terrible match making (experience, location, and connection)
-unbalance overall weapons system
-unbalanced classes and abilities
- lack of proper effective range on most weapons (range stats are not true indicative of actual range in game play)
-separation of PVE and PVP gun stats (Thorn was initially buffed because it was useless in PVE)
The reason I picked Thorn to make this point is because at the moment, this is the most talked about weapon. Few months ago would have been Suros, and before than would have been Vex. Crucible is broken because the fundamentals behind the game are broken.

3 답변작성자: Afawafa 6/24/2015 5:05:14 PMYou've got an illogical argument right in your first point. None of the weapons you've listed actually kill faster than Thorn. In fact, if we're going by pure logical reasoning, there's pretty much no argument against Thorn being OP since all numbers point to it being significantly stronger than other weapons.

1 답변My opinion on Thorn is that I just got it last night after all this frikken time, and I plan on using it. A lot. :)

3 답변I agree with you except i use thorn and my kd is above 1. And ya if thorn were so OP then everyone who used it would be godlike and that is not the case. And im sure i'll get fire for just saying simply this haha

2 답변Disagree. You're simply making a case for your least liked handcannon by dismissing methodically every argument made for Thorn being the worst. I think hawkmoon is the best handcannon, but it comes down to playstyle and preference. I think thorn should have increased recoil, i think tlw should stay the same as it cant compete at range, and hawkmoon should stay the same. Its down to who you are as a player.

7 답변So much crap in post. If Hitler could defend nazism on a forum i bet i would look like this. You have seen people kill Thorn users? That shouldn't happen man. Send screenshot to Bungie. On a more serious note: Autorifle buff won't solve the problem with the cheese weapons like Thorn, TLW etc. It will just decrease the time to kill across the board, making it more like COD. Just take care of those on the top of the list and the crucible will be more balanced.

Dot allows a broken game mechanic when coming from straight bullets it promotes people playing scared and rewards it also since dot doesn't allow for shield Gen quite fast enough it is really op for elimination is makes the target who's been shot open for easy pinch or rush from 2 players and they don't stand a chance making the game even slower paced cause everyone tries to play back honestly the dot needs a small tweak and auto rifles need a good buff this would balance alot of the issues people are seeing in pvp

1 답변Ive just ticked over 5k kills with thorn :) and i think because i use the gun i dont get upset when i get killed by it, its a gun in the game and i just get on and deal with it when im going against it which is most times in ToO. I think if we had an auto rifle buff the attention would be taken off thorn as there would be a bigger selection of weapons to use.

1 답변I've owned thorn since the 2nd week of Destiny if I'm not mistaken. The way it was before was bad mainly because of suros regime keeping constant high damaging shots on you preventing you from landing hits(especially if they used high caliber I believe it has). Thorn is currently op because of the changes that buffed it's weaknesses which makes it bad in no aspect. Before it was balanced (kind of). Same damage but the recoil was a bit high so it was difficult to chain shots, it's magazine was low which was good, and it's reload speed was bad. What the thorn needs is a nerf in the stability and magazine size. Undo the buff to bough. The last word just needs the exploit fixed where you can do more damage to a person when aiming down.

작성자: cuzzybubba1 6/24/2015 3:39:01 AMI dunno, I love Thorn and was an original user back in low ammo slooooooow reload days. iMO, the nerf cries will not stop until Bungie does something for the masses they always do. I have no prob with Thorn users or dying from it as I'm really proficient with it. That said, I think if they lowered the mag size and reload back to its prior standards that may stop all the complaining or at least help but it's Dot and damage output needs to be left alone. I never noticed how many people used Thorn until I switched over to PR's and then it hit me.

1 답변작성자: Jake 6/24/2015 1:06:53 AMOkay I see no characters or play time on this account so clearly this a a fake account I want to see your stats on PvP and trails. I run with thorn 98% of the time especially in trails, but the fact of the matter is the guns stats are ridiculous. It has 9 bullets in the magazine which is to much for such a powerful gun, its impact is the best (way to much) if you include the DoT. It's a for sure three shot kill almost anywhere to the neck down. It has a hidden perk which is Luck in the Chamber many people think Thorn glitches and activates final round early but not true this is a hidden exotic perk which most exotic guns have a hidden perk.

If u compare thorn with other hc statswise. Thorn has super high fire rate (word of crota?)while having a high impact.(comparable to fatebringer) On top of that, it has freaking range of a scout rifle. The damage of thorn doesnt drop @ sniper range. And not to mention the large magazine, stability and reload speed are relative good for a hc.

The only logical point in this is 3. All the others are opinions based on your experiences, not the majority. The problem is not Thorn, the problem is Bungie not running a wannabe MMO like they should be. Look at any popular MMO and you'll see how often things get nerfed/buffed for balance (hint: it's not in the single digits per year). As a pretty much pvp only player (I did my first raid about a month ago), it's blatantly obvious that Bungie could care less about balance and are just trying to keep the audience they have interested in semi-new content.

5 답변작성자: Huggable_Cacti_ 6/24/2015 12:40:08 AMSnipers and scout rifles do wonders against the thorn, although it is annoying when people waste all their ammo just for the last round perk. But I will say the TLW and it's range is a bit ridiculous for its stats. Also some may disagree with me on this but if you have the skill, NLB is a good counter. Head shot they're dead or you can have a teammate go for the clean up kill if you don't land a headshot

1 답변The problem with argument 4 is that if everybody using the same primary gun, there is inherently a problem with it's balancing and people are trying to stay on par with other people using the guns. It's a 2 head shot, walk away, burn kill. It's that it has the playstyle of I'm just going to hit a guy, then hide that is frustrating as well. Not to mention what I hate about most game now, which is if you take damage there is an effect that shows that you are taking damage. From Borderlands having the light and color disappearing making it more frustrating and hard to kill.. To Thorn making everything green and blurry. It's not fun.
