Destiny is doomed from hemorrhaging casual players.

Many of us construct articulate, thoughtful arguments regarding Bungie's baffling management of Destiny. Our complaints are not whining or crying. We are not children. We work for a living, have families, and real life obligations. We don't have hours to play every day, and we choose not to spend our weekends on the couch where the only human interactions we have are through a headset. We are willing to work hard for game gear, but finding a group and playing without getting [i]Attention Contacting Destiny Servers[/i] shouldn't be part of said work. And, when lightening strikes and we do hear from Bungie, the response is often snarky, insulting, and illogical. We have every right to complain: Bungie has turned what should have been an epic - and [i]epically FUN[/i] - game into a frustrating, confusing, and unrewarding grind. Their over reliance on RNG, absence of a skill-based reward system, and lack of matchmaking or in-game LFG is deflating and infuriating. Instead of an open world, we were sold endless loops. And before you simply tell me to quit, you should know that if you love Destiny, then you [i]need me[/i]. You need the casual players with some disposable income. You need the students whose parents bought them the game, and can only play around homework and chores. Casual players have bailed from this game by the millions, [i]millions[/i]! This iteration of Destiny may survive this hemorrhaging for a while, but unless Bungie starts catering to MY demographic - and to casual gamers, in general - any future Destiny products are doomed. Exactly! Edit: Thanks to proactive members of this Community, we got the attention of Forbes Reporter Paul Tassi, which, in turn, certainly got Bungie's attention. Check out Tassi's piece from yesterday: [i]If Bungie built Destiny around groups, they need to help players find them. [/i] June 29 Edit: I still love playing multiplayer with my sons, but have zero interest otherwise. I have a bunch of unleveled gear, that as far as I'm concerned, can rot. Now, my interest has turned to trying to keep Bungivi$ion's money-mongering, player-gouging tactics from becoming the norm for game publishers. The loudest noise I can make is that of my wallet closing.

  • I've written many posts nearly exactly like yours. I couldn't give two shits about destiny anymore...it's about its marketing model being followed by future games. The gaming industry is becoming something to be hated. Bungie and activision are leading the companies against full games. It's all about limiting and squeezing the customer. What happened to the art? Stop giving this market/product model money. Add me if you're on the one. I like your way of thinking.

    • It takes an otherworldly level of hypocrisy to shun bungie/activision for being "greedy" and scamming the player, while playing on Xbox. There is no company in gaming that more deserves our wallets closed in response to anti-player policies. They changed many of the original ideas. But you don't get to open your wallet to a company that wholly forgot that it works for the consumer and put out a sub-par product, charged more for it, then tried to tell you how to use it, and then stand upon a pulpit of closing your wallet to companies that did debatably similar things on 1-100th the scale

      • For one, yes they need some sort of in-game looking for group system or matchmaking. As far as catering to the casuals, that's cool they just need to find the right balance so that the game is challenging for the more hardcore gamers and easier for the more casual players. It seems that, so far, they've leaned one way or the other and need to figure out the sweet spot. And RNG, i don't really care haha. It hasn't held me back nearly as much as looking for a group.

        • It still baffles me that casuals are complaining about a game that encourages interaction with others hence the recruitment forum. Yet there are numerous ways to get a group for anything. Sorry they don't have a lazy way of getting groups together. You didn't see vanilla WoW's forums about match making for raids that required 40 people to do. People understood "I need to get into a clan/guild that has a lot of players". There was a lot of content that a lot of players didn't see because of multiple reasons and they understood that and dealt with it or worked towards it because match making was non existence. To sum it up; You're playing a multiplayer game that allows you to play certain content solo. If your not willing/capable to find a group on your own its your fault you can't do that content not Bungie's. Yes they [b]could[/b] implement match making for raids and nightfall but they want players to interact with each other not just sit there mic-less and not communicating. They would have to implement a system that detected who has a mic and who doesn't. Most people including myself won't do raids with players who don't have a mic.

                I'd like to point something out that hopefully many read. Casuals are labeled so for a reason, they cannot/will not commit. That fact is not only expected, it's WANTED. here is why.... Casuals money is the same as hardcore. Someone might say they bought it used, so no money went to Activision. True, but DLC purchase does. You know what casuals don't do much? Complain about the state of the game. This is less money spent on CSR. They quit playing after they've reached their fun quota. This alleviates traffic on Bungies systems, both in game, and the website. This means spending less money in efforts to correct problems cause by usage. They know chances are they'll be back because interest will renew with new content. This infuses the company with funds, gaining kudos. The cycle now repeats. This is the desired outcome. It maximizes profits and reduces expenditures on upkeep. You are pointing to a desired behaviour as a critical flaw. The biggest issue a company has, are hardcores.

                          • Very very true i play very little till TTK comes out if the content is mediocre like HOW or TDB well im finished.Everyone on my friends list dont even play destiny anymore there playing other games.Last straw for bungie and ive played since beta.

                            • Where are you finding stats on how many people are leaving? I'm curious. Also instead of fixing the things you pointed out bungie is trying to appease casual gamers by nerfing our PVE gear which is pissing off a lot of the hard core group, myself included. The thing that baffles me is that there are simple solutions that would help us all but instead i am beginning to think bungie enjoys pitting us against each other.
