A Lighthouse Solution

This weekend, it became very clear that HoW's new endgame reward (the infamous Lighthouse) created as many problems (cries of inequity) as it solved (the lack of elite PvP player rewards). If you're like me, you've been playing since day 1 and lived through the fusion rifles that were effectively shotguns AND sniper rifles, salvage matches with ridiculous capture spawn locations, and the like. If you're like me, then you're also significantly better at PvE than PvP. While I'm all for rewarding skill, I think Bungie totally bungled The Lighthouse implementation: the rewards are significantly better than PoE's, the space is a much better PvP reward than anything PoE has, and its limited time nature makes it harder to coordinate player schedules (I personally play primarily midweek.). Feel free to throw in the issues with disconnects, server errors, matchmaking, lag switches, weapon balance, etc. In spite of that, elite players deserve to be rewarded for their skills. The real mistake arises from Destiny having no PvE comparison in HoW. Since The Lighthouse exists, there should be a PvE pathway to it, as well. For people complaining about gamers wanting things handed to them, that's not what I want. I want a PvE challenge to EARN access to The Lighthouse. Level 36 PoE? Okay. PoE Nightfall? Okay. As a WoW vet, I loved the challenge of finally cracking a 40 man raid, server first. If I'm being honest, PoE is currently a joke and ToO flawless is far more challenging. To sum it up, Bungie can make both halves of their player base happy by sharing the reward for a consummate PvE challenge. People can spout, "git gud" all they want, but what was my reward for Flawless Raider? A trophy. Wow. That reward really changed my gaming experience. You're telling me that being in the top 1.1% of PvE players (I also have Guardian Lord: 0.7%) doesn't deserve access to The Lighthouse? I'm not selfish enough to be backpacked there (though I've done it many a time in PvE), and the PvE solution could be as simple as a monumental PvE challenge. I'm up for it. TL;DR: Destiny should have an elite PvE challenge that grants access to The Lighthouse, and it should be of consummate difficulty to ToO's flawless victory requirement. EDIT: I do not want them to make anything easier. I am going to keep working on flawless (I have already gone 5-0 and 4-0 without boons). This is a proposed solution to quell the masses, and it highlights the lack of hardcore PvE content/rewards.

  • I suppose, but perhaps the PvE rewards should be different weapons and gear, to differentiate. Same stats and all, just different names so that PvP players don't get pissed off. I'm pretty sure the ToO will become increasingly easy though as the top players will have all the rewards and leave for greener pastures elsewhere.

  • Everyone plays PvE, it's the bulk of the game. Saying that people who only play pvp get screwed over in terms of dlc is the worst counter argument for this. NOBODY PLAYS JUST PVP, you need to play PvE to unlock it anyway. Also PvE is easy, crota can be done solo, trails doesn't even have match making and having the lighthouse as the only way to get certain items basically gives the "best" players an advantage. That's an unbalanced system right there.

  • I did 3 flawless runs on all of my characters without using the loss buff in 3 hours. Flawless trials is about the same difficulty to me than PoE is.

    • People seem to be forgetting that there were two raids in the previous DLC with no PVP equivalent. I am by far a PVE player, but I hate people whining about nothing.

        Pve has their weekly raids, nightfalls, hard mode exlusive guns, now prison of elders. Pvp has had nothing, no sense of accomplishment, untill now. The rewards in crucible have been beyond terrible, other than getting a Suros regime and the occasional strange coin, it's just 21 light blue armor, guns and engrams. And usually for the guys with terrible score. I've put time into crucible and played it regardless of the chit incentive and no rewards, do people that don't touch it outside of when Iron banner rolls out when they go in with their clan and don't have any pvp skills deserve the same rewards in a PVP ENDGAME activity that's meant to be competitive for people who actually play crucible, I think not. PVE can get their own social space with a chest that you can get from doing something like complete all hard raids and poe 35 in a week, or something, or flawless raider in POE 35, whatever. I wouldn't cry about it if I didn't get it though. But I don't want to see people who can't play crucible or go flawless running around with the eye of osiris. if you can get a semi competent team going and you arent terrible most should be able to get there eventually anyway, with enough attempts. Eventually you'll luck out and not face any really strong teams on the way. This weekend I played several teams with the eye of osiris emblem who sucked and must have lucked out to go flawless. Or if that's too hard maybe the pve'ers should ractice crucible a bit. People complain that the DLC is too short and there is nothing to do, but then people also get mad when they can't go flawless in trials the first week, and they don't want to put any time in to get better. When I first started playing fps seriously with mw2 did I cry when i got nuked? No, I used it as motivation so that I'd be the one nuking eventually. Then watched videoes and stuff of good players, practiced my aim, got better.

        • Wouldn't it make more sense to have an entirely different social space with equally useful rewards? I think ToO adept weapons should only be obtainable through ToO. I would rather have PoE adept weapons drop in an entirely different social space exclusive to people who could complete a PvE challenge.

        • The thing is...bungie dosent care about the "crys of inequity"...... I havent been there, but lighthouse is fine like it is. Theres a way to get there.....if you cant do it...too bad.

          • Without even reading your stupid post I can tell you this the lighthouse needs no solution. It isn't broken. It's there to reward players using team work and strategy through the trials to get there. Much like PoE on 35 does this week!

              • I don't think you can ever get something as difficult and as random as ToO. Almost always people find some cheese that they can do to beat something, then everyone does it. I personally really don't care what people get or don't get. Our society was ruined a long time ago with this "everyone should get a trophy" mentality. I remember growing up and playing NES games. Those were hard, and you felt great and had a sense of accomplishment after beating one of them. Now everyone expects to be able to do everything a game has to offer in less than a couple of weeks. If they can't they complain. It's only been out a week and people are already complaining it's too difficult. *smh*

              • PVP is harder. Anyone can gjallarhorn the crap out of a boss. And everyone PVP player is good at pve. There is no 'PVE skill'

                • My only issue with ToO is the lack of comparable skill based matchmaking. I don't see the sport in 'elite' players destroying average groups of players like me. It's no fun for me and an easy ride to the lighthouse for them. That being said, I intend to do my time and improve myself as a player. I'm sure I'll learn a little from playing better players eventually.

                    I feel like the Lighthouse should be PvP only. [i]However,[/i] I'm all in favor for a PvE only area. Think of the something on Jupiter's Moon or a special area in the Reef. It would mean more to PvE players if they got a new area and weren't just an afterthought to the Lighthouse. That's my take on it, anyway.

                    • I agree. Best run was today, when we went 7-0, then proceeded to lose the next 4 matches to players that had weapons from the lighthouse and the new exo shotgun. IMO, Destiny is a PvE game primarily w/a fun PvP side game.

                    • For the first time since the game released bungie actually DIDNT screw over PvP players and now all the PvE players are pissed beause they think "they got screwed over." Grow the -blam!- up. You guys have had the upper hand with endgame content since thr beginning of the game now your pissed because for once bungie actually rewarded PvP players

                        • As someone who will also never likely step foot in the lighthouse either, let me just tell you this is probably the most ridiculous thing I'll read today. Who cares. Seriously, it's a 'Social space' where you see nobody else, and get a chest. It's essentially a location for a one-time chest. And that chest is only for those that go 9-0 in trials. You don't deserve that chest otherwise.. much like if you do part of a raid, you're not [b]entitled[/b] to all of the remaining chest because "gosh golly gee I sure tried but I can't beat the other bosses so just give me the rest of the loot anyways". Earn it, or get over it.
