Where we are protected by the Traveler, the Fallen are protected by being spread out and maneuverable. It would be impossible to wipe them out in one fell swoop
Our craft is not by any means interstellar. The word "interstellar" means "between stars." We can barely make it to the asteroid belt, much less beyond our solar system to other stars.
I'll concede the point about Ghosts, but interstellar travel like the Fallen possess requires significantly advanced technology that's well beyond our current means.
As for Ether, we're not so different from them due to our dependence on the Traveler's Light. However, where we have one great source of Light, the Fallen have multiple sources of Ether. This makes them impossible to wipe out in one fell swoop, like I mentioned before.
On a side note, I think that Ether is just a synthetic form of Light. Would explain why the Fallen (Or, at the very least, the House of Kings) want the Traveler so badly. And maybe that's why the Servitors are built in a spherical shape like the Traveler; they're paying homage to the Great Machine that advanced their civilization so long ago.

That last part brings up an interesting notion. Etheric Light must be the halfway point between the Fallen's Ether and the Traveller's Light. Quite coincidental for it to be the major resource during an expansion centered around the Fallen? I think not.

Huh, great points. I'm guessing that the fallen had the traveller for a much greater period of time before their own collapse because the amount of technological advancement required to make something like the servitor would be astronomically high. I also remember reading somewhere, i think in the description of a ship or a grimoire that our ships were capable of making it to stars close to our own but not too much further but defiantly able to reach other stars. Your ghost also says that people were going in ships to colonize other galaxies or stars in the cosmodrome mission where we first meet the hive. I don't think ether was like light to them because they require it to survive like normal food for us. I think that the fallen were evolved to consume the substance because there was a lot on their home planets. When the traveller came, they reached a golden age and made the servitor as a much better and efficient source of ether. I don't know if light was incorporated into the lives of the fallen at all; i think it was probably introduced to us and given to us through the ghost so we can fight the darkness better than the fallen did because they could not be revived.
