Senior gameplay designer Josh Hamrick exits Bungie to take on a new role at the Fallout and Elder Scrolls studio.
by Eddie Makuch on March 30, 2015
Destiny senior gameplay designer Josh Hamrick has left Bungie to join Fallout and Elder Scrolls developer Bethesda. He announced the news on Twitter, expressing gratitude to Bungie, and wishing the developer all the best as it continues to work on Destiny going forward without him.
Hamrick did not announce his exact title at Bethesda, nor did he say what project at the developer he'll be working on. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim team Betheda Game Studios is currently working on an unannounced game.
Some are suggesting this game may be announced at E3 given that Bethesda is--for the first time ever--holding its own press conference at the show.
During Hamrick's nearly six years at Bungie, he also worked on the developer's final Halo title, Halo: Reach. Prior to joining Bungie in 2009, Hamrick worked at Midway Studios Austin on BlackSite: Area 51, among other titles.
Destiny launched in September 2014 and Bungie has continually supported and expanded game since then. The game's first add-on, The Dark Below, was released in December, while the next expansion--House of Wolves--will be released before the end of June. Bungie is also working on "Destiny 2."

Whether it's video games, major medical, law firms, etc. any time a guy/gal who leaves for another competitor, simply means a more attractive offer or "number" was given and they took it. Money, attractive offers, benefits, "freebies" will always be enticing enough for someone to leave a company of X Number of Years to another. In video games, it's not uncommon for a good portion of a company's staff to be "let go" as part of their "Non-Essential" staff (in most cases, they were added during the production and only those "essential" staff were kept for the smaller projects and/or maintenance needed). In his case, for all anyone knows, it was more of a, "Hey, I got whatever I could from Bungie. I love them, but it's time for me to move on to other opportunities to further expand on my portfolio." Some times it really is just that simple and there's no need for conspiracy theories of "looks like Destiny is officially dead" because one of their "Senior" staff left. He's one of hundreds and I'm they currently have or will easily get someone as good, if not better, than he is. Further, Bungie hired Guild Wars 2 Loremaster. Lore = Story. Guild Wars 2 story was pretty damn decent, if memory serves me right. That can potentially signal great things for Destiny 2 or even future DLC for Destiny 1.

11 답변I'm not that fussed to be honest, he wasn't one of the old guard. He only worked on Reach and Destiny. Reach kinda sucked and as much as I love Destiny all people ever do is complain about it. Maybe we will get someone better.

2 답변작성자: Swiftlock 3/31/2015 10:20:01 PMAt this point, I'm more hyped for Fallout 4 than pretty much anything else, sans Kingdom Hearts 3. More awesome single-player adventures with tons of content are something we're in desperate need of. If he's helping with it, then no negatives here.

1 답변작성자: joebowlr21 3/31/2015 9:03:34 PMThey're all looking for new jobs. The reason....they know they ruined what could have been an amazing franchise with this direction they decided to take. Jumping ship before HOW releases so they don't take the ding on their resume

4 답변This is bad on both fronts, I don't want anyone from Bungie getting their hands on Elder Scrolls or Fallout but at the same time a lead designer leaving his post from Destiny can't be a good sign either. I'm glad I've found Borderlands recently, hopefully they can come out with a sequel.

You know things are gonna hit the fan when the senior gameplay designer leaves Bungie to join Bethesda. Good luck trying to cover this up. Look at what happened to Don Mattrick after the whole E3 debacle lol.
