False. You get legendaries and they can turn to exotics. I got a couple from doing that. One was from the old school glimmer cave. It became exotic armor. Keep playing and u will see how the game functions. And some claimed to get one from patrol chests. This is destiny, not science. Why would u even question the oddity.
