weapon changes: pve=why???

I just read about the weapon changes in the upcoming patch. I agree with everything for pvp. It's completely understandable and reasonable to attempt to balance the weapons in a manner that all of them have their merits and drawbacks, with nothing being ridiculously overpowered. However, my complaint regards pve. I may be in the minority, but I rarely play crucible. I estimate 95% of my playtime has been pve. And I disagree with many of the changes to these weapons for pve. I have one reason: who the hell cares if the enemies get killed quicker??? Really, does it matter that a fusion rifle or hand cannon can smash them like a so many ants under a size 15 boot? In case you guys at bungie are oblivious, it's fun to use hand cannons to snipe dregs from 300 yards. And how does it affect the grand scheme of things if this remains the case? You want the experience to be more realistic? You want to make the guns more difficult to use in an effort to hone the gamers weapon skills? I can't really conceive a fundamentally sound reason why you'd make these changes for pve. Unlike pvp where you are playing against another person, who gets frustrated because the shotgun or fusion rifle is considered OP, this doesn't apply to the artificial enemies. Unless I'm wrong, Atheon isn't sitting in the Vault of Glass saying "Dammit, those fusion rifles are tearing my guys up, and Bungie needs to do something about it or I'm going to be pissed!" Why do these changes need to be across both game types? You can't claim that a differentiation can't be made, as you clearly stated on multiple points that the change will only affect crucible/pvp. Why is it that the mistakes which have been made in development, and are subsequently exploited in the crucible, are then corrected with nerfs that, in turn, punish pve players? That's my 2 cents. And I call it 2 cents because I already know it's value in affecting a change in this upcoming weapon patch. But at least it's off my chest.

  • The changes in PvE are to keep parity with PvP. Otherwise, weapons would operate differently in different game modes. Suck it up, and adapt your attack vectors.

      • I don't play PvP much either and am baffled why they continue to base most gun changes on it either. Why not buff the underused guns instead of degrading existing guns? They should focus on separating PvE and PvP changes and stop hurting PvE almost every time. If they can't, they need to take a look at DC Universe Online and create PvP guns/ammo to avoid the problem we continue to see. The other reason I think the gun stats are skewed is due to no hot swap loadouts for guns and armor (DCUO again does) and the ammo penalty. If they fixed those 2 things I would use the other types of guns a lot more. Since Bungie punishes the player from swapping guns I stick with the best loadout for the strike/raid I attempt to play. Autos rule since you can spray bullets, pulse-like shots and one shot with them. Let's us play the game the way we want to and not the way Bungie forces us to play if Bungie wants to know what weapons we would really use. I'm 99.9% sure if we could swap guns easily and not be punished the stats would change drastically for PvE. Not sure about PvP but a lot of us don't care. How about showing us some stats on what people play. So far I think PvP is not doing well and these changes are just an attempt to try and get more to play PvP. Just load Halo 2 and remember how PvP was fun for all. CTF, large maps, vehicle combat, etc. Not all of us like tiny maps that require running around and shooting/dying every 2 seconds. It's a waste of time and requires little to no strategy. Halo 2 had PvP modes that incorporated strategy, teamwork, planning that enhanced the brainless PvP tactics Destiny basically is.

Thank you. I was furious last night playing with a buddy who explained the changes. Sounds like some dev got jealous that the weapons they created weren't getting used. For the love of god bungie don't nerf pve . Buff the hell out of it. All around. Story. Encounters ect. We don't want PvP halo. We want pve destiny. This patch will make pve players feel less than legendary. Much less. Good job PvP whining dbags. Couldn't stop could ya. Complaining to mommy wasn't enough was it?

I just had another thought. On the point of justifying these changes so players can be "challenged to use weapons in a different way", or however bungie worded it, here's my thought: I get "challenged" to do things in different ways at my freakin job! That's something my boss says to me when he gets a task handed down from the brass that he knows sucks, but has to do it anyway. But guess what bungie: this is a FLIPPIN' GAME!!! I don't need challenged in different ways to use different weapons! I don't want you guys to try and manage my play style. Let alone MANAGE ME! I've tried to keep my composure, and tried not to be too demeaning. But now that I've realized what you're trying to do, I am pissed. This shouldn't be work. It shouldn't force us to be "challenged". We bought the game, and played with what you've given us. And we liked what we liked, avoided what we didn't like. But now you want to take that away from us? I can't believe I'm even having to discuss this over a video game. It's supposed to be fun! Here's what I'll say about this circumstance: you're a bunch of controlling, self righteous sons of bitches. And you're a bunch of jackasses for trying to control the way I play a game that I have given you 95 bucks for already. It's ridiculous.

            • you do know guns like necrochasm and atheons epilogue will hardly, if even, be touched, right? it says up to 2.5% for slower RoF guns, scaling less for higher RoF. its also about BALANCE. that means keeping each and every weapon type diffirent, but equal. if you want to shoot at a range, then use scout, if u want 2 headshot up close, hand cannon. the way it was before, there was absolutely NO reason to use scout rifles. balance applies to PVE too. (I too hardly touch crucible.) [I also never touched scout rifles nor pulse rifles, now I have a reason to diversify] PVE needs balance too, otherwise pulling scouts/pulses would be equivalent to mats. I've WANTED to use the other gun types, but my Venation VII outperformed EVERY other gun by a land-slide. now I have a good reason to try them. we haven't even tried out the rebalances yet anyways! dont complain about an experience yet to occur. not to say we cant have a discussion about them period.

Almost 24 hours into this post Guardians. And I want to thank everyone who has given their feedback and likes. This post is listed both in the trending, and more importantly, highest rated sections of the feedback forum. This is how we get their attention. I hope it works. I never imagined it would garner so much support from the community, and did not have any idea so many players would agree with me. Keep up the conversation. Keep weighing in. Let's hope it gets noticed.

              • I agree with most of what was siad by original post but my biggest concern. Is the constant nerfs being done to auto rifle. There have been 3 in total which have made the necrochasm a pile of junk. Now with this latest auto rifle nerf your going to destroy it more. This os the final set of nerfs. I am willing to tolerate beforei trade it in i think i am not the only one. That feels this way so good luck selling comet. Ps. The auto rifle on launch was the funnest aspect to the game for me thx for not just ruining but utterly destroying that fun with nuke after nuke

                  • Hey bungie, Ever think the reason most kills came by auto rifle is because most players enjoy playing with auto rifles rather than other guns? IDIOTS!!! Stop nerfing our guns and spending all your time trying to patch exploits and fix the crap that's broken! We've been getting all these disconnects for 6 months, both raids still have glitches that cost us tons of time, ammo, and glimmer and the heavy ammo loss is still an issue (I'll believe that's fixed when I see it) 6 months later! All we ever hear is "we are aware and we are watching it as frequencies decline..." Get off ur rear ends and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Stop worrying about how people play the game and fix the actual problems! I am so sick of you guys trying to force your strategies down our throats, force us to use the guns YOU want us to use, and generally just pissing on our efforts. We bought the freaking game, let us play it! Get your noses out of our fireteam strategies and fix the stuff that needs fixing already! You have not made one update yet that hasn't taken something away from the player and its really getting old. I have over 1100 hours in this game and still no Suros. Want to fix something? FIX THAT! Xur sells the same crap every freaking week. Plan C, Dragons Breath and No Land Beyond take time about in rotation. Why even have him there? You guys are the masters of creating something good, then totally effing it up.

Hey Bungie: in response to your closing statement in the weapon changes article "your ball" Ok, I took the ball, said my peace. The community has responded with overwhelming support of our resolute opinion: we are not in favor of these weapon changes! Come up with something better. Read this thread. Actually listen to what we are saying. As was mentioned earlier, "it's rare to find [a topic] where almost everyone is in agreement". There are a lot of very good points here. But the general consensus is to stop favoring pvp so much and in turn sacrificing the experience of pve players. YOUR BALL. Ferrari

                  • Well said, I'm am trying to find other games to move on. I don't use shotguns I rarely play PvE I mainly an auto rifle guy in almost every game like this I play. Why keep nerfing the gun I like to use the most because of PvP no one in PVE is complaining about the damage of auto rifles this is BS. And this is why I've lost faith in Bungie and destiny has a game.

Nice post, true and well put. Unfortunately, they do not seem to consider the pve players. They seem to want to make a contender to cod in PVp gameplay. They will fail, unless they expand and develop the pve worlds, and open up closed areas. You are not going to beat cod,by trying to do what they do.... Create YOUR own destiny bungie......

                      • If the claim is that nerfing the weapons is to create a more 'realistic' experience in battle then Bungie is doing the opposite. All the weapons are underpowered in Destiny One. The reason I say this is because as human warfare has evolved weapons have always outstripped armor and there has at no point in time been any enemy that cannot be dispatched with a single shot if the attacker has the skill to aim (I'm not talking about shooting a tank with a pistol mind you). To demonstrate this point I need point no further than the elephant gun. If you were hunting elephants (horribly barbaric in my opinion) you bring a weapon that will do so with a single shot. The user's skill is, of course, the crux of such an event and one must put their rounds where they do the most damage, but no one, at no time would ever bring a weapon which their life depended on to battle that took more than a single shot to kill their target. Period. Any claim otherwise is made out of ignorance and/or a want to artificially increase the grind. Now having said all this, I understand it is a game and if we could all one shot our enemies then it would be less... (repetitive, monotonous, tedious, etc.) ahem, interesting, but if I were to make a game it would be more about strategy, tactics and skill than simply standing out in the open hip firing blindly which is exactly what is depicted in various Destiny commercials. Bungie doesn't know shit about shit when it comes to this sort of thing and their answer to challenging game play seems to be the bullet sponge method. PS: I believe the game only renders enemies to 200m so, though there are pistols right now that can shoot 300 yards or more, none of them do so in Destiny One apparently.

                        • I play like 98% PVE. Hand cannons are the bomb. I love the long distance shooting. Damage decreases with range enough as it is in PVE. For PVP, I get it. For PVE, no. I loves all my guns exactly the way they are. Especially thorn and fatebringer. Except maybe the buff on the pulse rifles. Haven't even touched my oversoul edict yet. But seriously, depending on how this goes, I might just find a new game to play.

                          • Here's a good post from "The Old Man": I swear, the main reason for all of these nerfs and buffs on guns are Crucible related. If Crucible never existed in the first place, Mythoclast would still be good, auto rifles would be good, shotguns would be good because they would buff them since they aren't used too much in PvE, same with pulse rifles, fusion would still be good, and last and definitely not least hand cannons would still be good. Scout rifles are fine. The majority of the problems leads back to whiney people who can't handle guns that are killing them in Crucible, then get the gun! Seriously though, if Bungie can make it to where shotguns do double damage to PvE enemies, they should make Crucible nerfs separate from PvE. So -blam!- Crucible, you're the downfall of the majority of good guns!

                            • Lots of pros and cons in this game but I have enjoyed this game since week 1, about 95% of my time have been PVE. I have been looking for a reason to stop playing this game, I had many but the gameplay and playing with friends are just really fun so I kept going even tho the glitches are very frustrating at times. Just recently got the necrochasm and the gun is awful for an exotic it's really weak. That wasn't enough for you so you decide to Nerf all auto rifles including the necrotrashm. I don't care much about PVP why the Fk would you take away the main thing that keeps me going... Phuck you bungievision... Fk you again

Ok, so having read some of the comments here, I would like to make my 2 cents. So no one uses pulse rifles? Who the hell cares? There will always be an ALPHA weapon, as determined by players around the community. If you buff pulse rifles enough, it won't become a viable option, it will become the new Auto Rifle. So you intend for auto rifles to rule at short to medium ranges, and you also intend for fusion rifles to be viable at medium to short ranges, with shottys being king at short range. Right!!! Which gun do you think will be used most in medium to short ranges now. The more you nerf AR's will simply result in more extensive use of secondaries not higher percentages for crappy pulse rifles. Look up some of my earliest posts on here if you want people to use pulse rifles more (you know the ones you totally ignored where I explained about the value of classes and making some weapon types benefit certain classes more for obvious reasons. I mean realistically, eliminate the varied jumps, grenades, melees and supers, and what classes are there in this game which for the most part is focused on shooting? My Titan might as well be a Warlock because his armor values are exactly the same when outfitted in all raid gear. Visit Blizzard sometime maybe you will understand what a CLASS really means. I mean am I the only one that has tried double jumping on my hunter to heights that only my titan can reach because I forgot which one I was playing, the classes are instantly forgettable in this game, and need to be addressed badly.) And don't think I'm griping because you are nerfing my favorite gun "to maintain your TTK." I will find a way to kill guardians in crucible if i choose to play even if I load out with a stone, but let's get one thing very clear. Destiny is a futuristic shooter, with characters that are able to leap at unbelievable heights and blink etc. It's difficult enough to maintain a medium range encounter (Which is btw the real reason players don't use pulse rifles and never will, shit just moves way too fast to track down with a three pop effectively before its up on you with a shotgun), but now your intended goal is clearly to make AR's seem less of an option, and increase usage of secondaries. Fine by me. So in closing allow me to suggest that u spend your time making relevant changes that the community you claim to listen to are really asking for. 1. Fix your buggy game - For too long Atheon has been teleporting people who get bubbled and immediately die, Crota emerges from his kneeling state and unleashes a slash from hell at guardians several yards away, Swordbearers with next to no health survive a Gjallarhorn shot and slash you to death, Crota hitting Guardians who are clearly inside and behind the glasslike barrier which we cannot hit him out of. Where the hell is Xur's heavy ammo and don't tell me Xur is random because I am not one of the mindless guardians running around the tower that believes in your RNG Xur stories. 2. Give us a proper story - If I wanted to read a whole lot of crap over the internet I would buy an e-book. Grimoire cards should be complementing the lore not telling it. And it's not even well put together in the Grimoire to tell a proper story even if I tried to read it all. A proper cut sequence that makes sense is not that hard to accomplish. It's been in games since several gens ago. Freaking original Halo had more to offer in terms of story that Destiny offers two gens of console later. Don't think we have not noticed. And the few unoriginal quests and stupid joke about the ghosts opening doors by Eris does not count as adding to the Lore. Mystery only works to hold interest when there is actually content that explains the mysterious events later on in the story. And you certainly can't expect people to wait till Destiny 2 to have the mystery solved. In case your writers are just simply incompetent here's a tip, a good story has a solid opening and a great ending the middle can be bullshit and it will still count as good. 3. Leveling up exotics are not fun, it doesn't count as content when you have to grind strikes and bounties to simply gather up sufficient xp, mats and glimmer to level up an exotic weapon or armor for that matter. Teach Xur to upgrade shit with the perks still applied. Thought I should add here for clarification, for people that work, if you want to level up exotics, it takes far too much time grinding bounties, which are repetitive and boring, and naturally you will do the pve bounties because they are more efficient. Without having to spend time leveling silly exotics over and over again, I for one would have much more time to focus on crucible, which is the only winner in this game atm. even though your hearts seem set on f@cking it up. However it's actually fun to play. But I also like raiding, and unless I get that Gjallarhorn and Icebreaker leveled up again nobody will want me in their raid. You know the raids that you apparently forgot to add earning xp to, because I guess you didn't want people grinding raids for xp or something, when they already grind everything else in the game for xp. Just saying. 4. Simply adding bullet sponges and purposely handicapping guardians' damage dealt and taken does not count as "Hard Mode." Removing the Chalice and adding the Wizard are nice touches, but the bullet sponges better not reappear in House of Wolves And finally a few words of caution, you may or may not read and or accept much of this post, heck you may completely ignore it. However when boasting about your 16 million registered accounts and 3 hours a day playtime also tell people that many guardians including myself were duped into purchasing DLC that was already created and installed on the original game files. So in case you don't know yet, House of Wolves is really your last chance to "live up" to the potential that so many players believe you are capable of since we all played the Halo franchise. We know you Bungie despite what the turds at Activision have made you to believe are capable of much much more, to whom much is given.... So, if you f@ck up HoW (pun intended) and see your registered users and playtime fall off significantly you have only yourself to blame, because I think the community has made its case since launch. So if you don't want to have DeeJ on the tower playing with himself (pun intended again) get your sh@t together and take your collective heads out of your @sses and fix your game.
