With quite a bit of feedback, insight and a completion under my belt, 3/4 of which I was a level 31, I've decided to close this thread. If you wish to read the original post, it's in the spoiler.
Thanks for the comments, good luck guardians!
Edit:
1. 31s will only deal 40% less damage to a level 33 and recieve 40% more. While 32s are at 30% in either direction. 10% isn't much.
2. Level 30s were the first to defeat Crota's End on normal, with a single 31 swordweilder... using, you guessed it, 1 and 2 level below the enemy characters. Likewise with level 32s and 31s against a level 33... Meaning they too were dealing 40% less and getting 40% more damage....
3. A players skill isn't rated by any one set of rules. A level 31 could be a fantastic player, one who is cautious, active, effective and a great communicator while a 32 can be a complete noob who hasn't ever done it legit and is a terrible player, communicator and the like.
If you have any real reasons that I didn't just beat with a hammer, lemme hear em.
I'll be taking my level 31 through hard mode today! Good luck Guardians!
Edit: added the single 31 to the post, obviously he was still a level below and dealt 30% less instead of 0% less...
Edit 2: My point is that a level 30 and below character is the only one who should absolutely NOT attempt this raid.
Edit 3: Math was a rough, but close, estimate. Specifics are still unconfirmed to me but are generally accepted values.
Final Edit: Let the story be told! 31s have made it through!!!

The thing is 31's can do it. It's just when you're lfg there is absolute no way of telling how much skill he has. You have to run the raid multiple times to be 32. We actually did hard crota with a 31 and he did just fine. But we knew he was good because he was our friend. I can't see that encounter being done with randoms though. It requires a lot of coordination and team work and idk if lfg'ers could do it. It would most likely be really hard.

3 通の返信The problem isn't that all 31s suck. Its that literally anyone can be 31 due to vanguard, making it virtually impossible to find that good 31 in a sea of kids who have no idea what they're doing. Most people aren't willing to take that time to sift through all the carbon to find that one diamond, so they just make it easier on themselves and ask for 32s. The chance of a 32 not knowing what he's doing is much slimmer due to the immense curve it takes to get the armor.

14 通の返信well you wouldnt be aloud on my team. the enemies at death singer and beyond will be immune to you, your worthless.

I like it that everyone is says a lvl 31 is useless. We began the raid with 4 x 32 and 2 x 31. And while it may take longer because of no strategy or one 31 dying in 5 min, we got to crota. Deathsinger done in one go only a 31 and a 32 left to kill the Knights.
easy haha
I had to part so my time to kill crota is still waiting!

The reason for not picking 31s has nothing to do with this. The issue is that getting to 31 is easy for anyone to do, and playing with randoms can result in long hours to complete the raid. Most 31s that people admit to the hard mode raid are people they know well. An example: I did hard mode VoG the other day with my 30 Defender and a group of 31s. They had NO idea what they were doing. We failed the Templar 10 times because our relic holder had to wait for 3-4 waves of Oracles to super the Templar once, and don't even let me get started on Atheon...

2 通の返信Those teams with 31's are really played on to eachother and not a bunch of randoms.

7 通の返信Chia Pete FTWにより編集済み: 1/21/2015 10:03:37 PMThis is just assuming that the raid doesn't level as you go (like normal mode already does). CE starts at 30, but enemies at the bridge are 31, then final chamber enemies are 32. If the hard mode is the same then the final chamber will be filled with lvl 35 enemies... O_O that would be stupid and I doubt that's the case... But If it is, a lvl 31 cannot even damage them... It would suck...

2 通の返信Wrong. 32s will deal 68% of the damage of a 33, and a 31 will deal just 55%. http://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2rhgrm/weapon_damage_explained_with_science/ Where the hell are you getting your numbers from?
-
4 通の返信These numbers are so wrong. I will clarify. Based on when I did normal mode with a handcannob: 1 level below=1/3 less damage 2 levels below=2/3 less damage 3 levels below= immune-10% damage I used a handcannon which hit 1.5k on same level. Went 1 level below it hit 1 Went 2 levels below it hit 500ish 1.5k x (1/3)= 1.5k/3 = 500 is one third of 1500. 1500-500= 1000 one level below 1500-500-500=500 two levels below As you can see, this is why 31s are not going to be invited much for first runs.

1 返信I'm going in tonight with a few 31s. As long as the 31 is armed well and knows what he is doing I'm cool with it. But I'm also not as serious about this game as others I have seen on this forum.

5 通の返信Level 31 is useless in hard raid. Face it no one will take you in until you're 32. Just because you think you can do it doesn't mean you can
