Friday evening I had 8 coins, after purchasing the shards to cap my Gjallahorn and Patience & Time. I knew Xur was selling the Ice Breaker but I felt the shard was I priority. My mistake. After remembering how good it looked and having a discussion and reading rave reviews about this gun, I decided to start grinding. I have a level 4 titan and at the time, a level 13 hunter. I figured that because I have a Hunt almost level 20, I will rank up and then apply the Gravebreaker 2.1 helmet and I should be high enough level to get some coins. So today, my journey began. Fired through the last two planets in a wee while, I got to rank 20 by the end of the black garden, immediately followed to level 23 thanks to the legendary helmet. I was confident I could get to level 27 to do the weekly heroic for 9 coins. However, at level 23 I was in limbo, I had no decent armour to further increase my light and wasn't high enough to enter roc playlist to earn great rewards. I started with doing the level 24 weekly so I could get to 11 coins. I tried public events but they didn't pay out sadly. I decided to talk to Eris and redo the dlc quest, I managed to struggle my way through hard and very hard difficulty with the aid of a friend. In all this time I was putting in I was losing confidence in my ambition to reach level 27, I had been in here for hours and I has only levelled to 23 because of a helmet. I hadn't received any rewards for the quests and hadn't decrypted any blues with light armour, I was giving up. However finally after defeating omnigul I was awarded a sweet chest piece to boost my level to 24. But still no coins, stuck at 12. This was followed by doing strike playlist and receiving boots and furthering my progress, in between these strips I vaulted over ascendant materials to upgrade my helmet in a push for more light. We arrived at light level 26, fired into the pits with the Archon priest and whilst dishing out the final bullets, at last... An upgrade. The promise land, level 27. Hours of hard grind and dismay, or so it felt, finally paid off. My friend and I decided on attacking the weekly, me, a level 27 hunter and a 29 titan ready for battle. The 3 waves section was slow and tactical and tricky, the fallen tank was simple but time consuming. We pushed forward into the lair, sepiks prime, charged and ready, we headed into the wee room. We were there so long the music gave up, and sadly so did our health. Around the 90% mark a raging vandal came in and lightswitched the -blam!- out of my friend, and I just ran, it chased me into the pit and I was instantly wiped. I was gutted but I knew I just had to give it another shot, so we pushed on. Finally after another lengthy battle we killed off sepiks prime and the mission was done, as was my energy. I happily took my 6 coins. Now upto 18 total. I went to Xur, grabbed the Icebreaker and just looked at it, admiring and enjoying. note In my haste I decided on exotic shards, but after some thinking I just decided to go for it, I really liked the look of the weapon and it was, according to some folk, the second best exotic in the game, so this idea became an obsession, a target. I realise my mistakes have cost me a lot of time but the journey was fun, thrilling, frustrating but totally worth it. I'm off I bed with a splitting headache, stiff back and cramping legs but in the knowledge that I have a gorgeous weapon.
