Is Bungie's "stocking stuffer" the last straw for some Guardians?
Were you happy with your run of the mill legendary weapon? I'm sure most Xmas noobs certainly are! Or do you see this as a missed opportunity for Bungie? An opportunity that could've made the toxic forums explode in positivity instead of all this hatred going on? Let me know what you think. Discuss. Debate. Grow.
(I myself got a Badger CCL. 2 energy basically. I was expecting this but would've been happier with say; 10 heavy synth, a shader, emblem or class item. I still love this game, but think Bungie continues to shoot holes in a sinking ship for some)
Edit 1 (5:04 pm): Thanks for all the responses everyone! Its always interesting to see people from all different walks of life respond to these issues. First thing I've noticed; most Day One players were underwhelmed, indifferent, or think Bungie could have done a better job with the PR on this "freebie". Others are upset that Christmas noobs are getting handed a lot of things. Fair enough. Christmas noobs or even casual players have greatly enjoyed this gift! I'm happy for them as well. I've seen some better options for what could have been done. My favorite: a redeemable token to get any Vanguard or Crucible gun.

1 返信If they didn't give us a gift. You would complain that we didn't get one. If it was an exotic engram, you'd complain that it wasn't what you wanted. If they gave you what you wanted then you would complain about everyone has what you do and it's too OP. Be happy bungie gave you something for doing nothing. Entitled little children.... aughh

3 通の返信I wrote hatemail to Nintendo in 1987 when they didn't give Mario and Luigi Santa hats. I raged at Sega in 1990 when Sonic the Hedgehog didn't get a set of reindeer antlers for Christmas. I was furious when Madden 2010 didn't have CHRISTMAS trees all over the field in the month of December. And now I'm SUPER PISSED that Bungie gave me a gift to celebrate the holidays. Logic is not very common around these parts....

I think they were doomed to fail no matter what. If the gun was underwhelming (and most are) then it was a missed opportunity. If the gun had been really good it would have been "welfare gifts" or some similar reaction. Heck, when Xur shows up and makes you pay for it people still complain. Oh well, i'll be keeping mine along with my Queen's Wrath items as a curiosity to ponder and hold over the heads of the young folk.

Bungie ruined your x-mas. Mine too. When the gift wasn't a supermodel, Maserati, or real life money. Bungie has practically ruined my life. Thanks people that I've never met, thanks for giving me what I didn't want. Now if you'll excuse me I need to find some food for all this salt.

So many other reasons to give other games the time. ;) But yeah, a class item that looked unique and said year 1 or 2014 / 2015 to commemorate the new year woulda be much more unique, cool, fun, etc. I find it lazy to be an engram. But honestly I was speculating it would be just that because bungie does suck on a certain level. They don't suck because they gave everyone a free engram (nice of them but whoopie) they suck due to their lack of ingenuity and creativity to give a nonsense meaningful item to have fun with and instead opted for the fast cheap way out. But they have done that for the whole game. They have no clue how to do mmo / rpg style games with which they so aptly promised us aspects of and fell so short.

I couldn't care less if I got a gift or not. And it's good that Christmas noobs get one. But I think the biggest thing is that everyone expected something epic that everyone could enjoy (me included.) I was not happy to get a BS Secret Handshake. Found Verdict is better in literally every way except MAYBE stability (but honestly, who needs that on a shotgun?) I don't know, maybe a shader or something would have been better. Wouldn't have been anything to spoon feed to noobs and wouldn't have given vets something to complain about (as far as handouts go at least) I'm still a little salty that when I started the game, almost NOTHING was explained to you and there were no communities you could go to to get help or Bungie kinda just grinded our faces into the dirt and laughed. Now it's free Sparrows, free weapons, extended windows, paywall access which every noob got because Christmas, increased drop rates... I guess that's how it works though. Games start out one way and get worse/better as time goes on. And I'm ok with that. Just wish the gift hadn't been pointless for vets is all.

This is the most balanced decision they could have made, the "Christmas noobs" are ecstatic regardless, and those of us who have been here from the beginning get get a chance to have another 331 damage gun for free. Sure a shader would have been cool, but then it would just mean everyone would use that shader for a day or 2 and switch again. Did you expect a choice of any exotic weapon? Do you think it would be smart to flood the market with the Gjallarhorn like they did with suros and make it less special? Just be happy with the engram and pretend for a moment that you're not an entitled ass.

1 返信I got the same Badger. From what I've read, it gives Confluence a run for the money. And I love my Con! So much self-entitlement, so little sweat. Go figure. This game is not about the easy way.

If they gave us a exotic then the earners would bitch that bungie is giving everyone free stuff and it not fair and I'm a special snowflake so you shouldn't give my exotic out for everyone, so it's impossible for them to make everyone happy, personally I would have been happy with a Christmas color shader

Here's the crazy thing about the complaining: A random legendary weapon roll is among the most valuable things in the entire game. If you get a legendary weapon with the right roll it's probably what you're going to have until HoW comes out. Seriously, it has that much potential. It's why people will spend 100 motes of light on rolls with Iron Banner items. I can't promise that you'll actually roll something that game breaking but that fact that everyone has a chance at something that's that good is remarkable. The mere idea that people are unhappy with it is completely baffling.[/i]

I just think Christmas noobs really don't have to work to progress anymore. Those of us here since the beginning, we had to farm for hours for upgrade materials, we went through 99% of Legendary engrams turning into rares, we had to raid constantly with always terrible odds of earning gear. We worked our asses off. And what do these people have to do? Sign in and check the postmaster. I've been trying to get Ice Breaker for as long as I can remember, and I've racked up 208 hours here. A friend of mine got the game on Christmas. My raid team and I pulled him through the whole damn raid, and he got Ice Breaker. I've done VoG constantly and all I've gotten was a Found Verdict and (thankfully) a Vex. All the rest was Shards and Energies. Can't really complain about Vex, but most of you understand how unfair it is too see shit [i]you[/i] worked for be handed to someone else. Who has barely played. I'm pretty much over it. Sorry for the long post. May RNGesus bless those of us here since day 1. We've earned it.

Or, to put it another way: this [i]is[/i] the last straw for me. I no longer believe this community can offer anything welcoming or meaningful, because far too many people in it sit at the intersection of the Venn diagram of "vicious" and "entitled".
