If we're speaking about gameplay mechanics alone, Destiny was an above-average first-person-shooter. Beyond that, Destiny was redundant, trite and stale in almost every other category.
Destiny seemed like it had become a victim of its own hype, making players believe they were getting something they simply did not. Perhaps that void was a coherent story, level variation and a substantive campaign experience -- all of which were arguably nowhere to be found
inb4 this thread is pillaged by Bungie nuthuggers. Glad to see more media outlets are commenting on this game's glaring shortcomings, such as the pretty much non-existent story.
This game has amazing gameplay mechanics, and this just amplifies the disappointment when it comes to the blatant laziness Bungie showed towards pretty much every other facet of the game.
Edit:
For all of you dismissing CNET, Polygon doesn't have a positive view of Destiny or the expansion either.. along with other sites such as Forbes.
Polygon article: https://games.yahoo.com/news/destiny-dark-below-review-no-225853543.html
The Dark Below is the perfect expansion for Destiny — it's just as grandiose and ultimately shallow as the main game.
Destiny suffered from two glaring problems at launch: a lack of content, and a lack of variety in that content. Those issues were compounded by the game's MMO-inspired structure, a progression system that forced players to repeat the same few activities ad nauseam in order to rank up.
As a quote-unquote expansion to Destiny, The Dark Below is presumably meant to address those two major concerns.
In most respects, it fails.
Looking forward to the excuses and illogical arguments to come; some of you provide the lulz.

I think most, if not all Destiny players would agree, concerning game mechanics - they're great... After that, you will get a lot of disagreement on what else Destiny has to offer... For me, my disappointment lies in how close this games was to being one of the greatest ever... Something Bungie keeps moving away from, as evident with the recent dlc... With a corperation like Activision, where its all about the bottom dollar - I doubt it will get any better... My hope is that another studio will see what potential Destiny had - pick up the ball and advance it further...

The logic that follows in this thread is baffling.
Bungie advertised me a seven course meal, with delicious entrees, attractive servers, and an amazing dessert, if I paid $60. And an 'enhanced experience' if I paid $150 for their special 'ghost meal'. When I got it, I was greeted with piles of literal garbage, with the only plus side being the shiny plates they were placed upon. They also advertised an amazing addition to the 'meal' by adding a whole new side-dish for another $15. I bought it, and it was just another slightly more odorous dish of the main course. But, hey! I personally find it delicious, so that makes it good food, right? ~(Majority of) Destiny's community
Then there's the "jest stahp pelyn et geiz" members. We don't talk about them.

11 通の返信Even though I paid for the expansion, I think it's unfair to those who don't have it yet and can't play the nightfall or weekly.. That would piss me off enough to point where I would just sell the game.

Guys seriously? "Who is CNet?" I understand people are fans but let's not be ridiculous. Cnet is like one of the first sites that comes up with any Google search related to tech or software. I also don't know why its impossible for people on this forum to have a discussion. If you disagree then logically refute it.

23 通の返信Well thats their bad i think this game is amazing and a whole lot of fun. I think its just as good as bungie hyped it in my opinion

Its only the lack on content and an endgame where our destiny is to all choose a colour... Seriously why are there not 5 sets of raid gear? All 30 and 32. Why are there not 10 lv 32 sets? All based on something. Crota's cod piece lol. The game is fun. Its just too simple and not enough items. Why they even mentioned customisation I'll never understand they want us all wearing the same crap

Because those who enjoy it (not me) are busy playing the game. Those who hate it go on every forum and btich about it. Since I have your attention, this game sucks dick. Too much repetitiveness. I bought the hardened edition and got the season pass so it's better to make my money's worth.

3 通の返信Hidefininjaにより編集済み: 12/11/2014 11:50:31 AMIt's easily the most disappointing game of 2014. I really could care less, though. I've gotten more enjoyment out of this game so far than any other. I imagine watch dogs is on there too. I really enjoyed that game as well. But there's no denying it was a letdown overall. Same thing with Unity. Gorgeous, fun, fun with friends, but probably not what the average casual's looking for. I'm okay with it. I agree with it. I'm still playing Destiny tomorrow.

Cnet is not a good source at all... All of their reviews suck balls. I do agree the story is lackluster but I don't play Destiny for the story so it bothers me not. If you enjoy it (I do) play it. If not? Then don't play it... It's been over 3 months and people are still crying about the same old shyte...
