With the new DLC there will be an interesting new feature: upgrading exotics. Now let me quote a destiny dlc tester.
"Here’s how it works. Upgrading exotic weapons and armor is completed by interacting with the weekend vendor, Xur. When he arrives every Friday morning, he will now have a new option to upgrade one of your equipped exotic items. Each week, he’ll offer some (but not all) exotic items as being available to upgrade.
You’ll need three things. First, you need to own the original version of that exotic item, and turn it in to exchange for the upgraded version. It doesn’t matter if this old version of the item is brand new or fully upgraded. To complete the upgrade, you’ll also need to turn in an exotic shard. This recently introduced new material is available for purchase for seven strange coins from Xur, or by breaking down another existing exotic item in your inventory. Finally, each exotic upgrade costs a hefty dose of cash – around 7000 glimmer as of my playthrough of the expansion in mid-November. After turning all three of these things into Xur, he’ll hand you a brand new version of your item with a higher defense or attack value cap.
It’s important to note that this process resets the upgrades on your exotic item, but you’ll now have a new higher damage or defense cap to work towards – so you’ll need to decide if you’d rather keep your fully upgraded old version of a weapon or armor piece, or start over. With that said, the process of upgrading exotic items is now faster, and does not require ascendant materials. Instead, the last slot requires one additional exotic shard, as revealed in Monday’s patch."
This implies:
1) We'll have to wait some time to be able to upgrade our favorite exotics
2) You have to max out the same weapon again
3) You will need 7000 glimmer and 2 exotic shards (edit: actually one for xur and one to max again)
Everybody will have accesd to this upgrade process but only DLC players will be able to get the new gear from xur.
To upgrade or not to upgrade, that is the question.

2 通の返信Elazulにより編集済み: 12/3/2014 7:46:16 PMI'm actually pretty annoyed by this. They are just stretching thin content even thinner by dragging it out and completely resetting progress for everything. May be the straw that breaks the camels back on if i'm going to continue playing or not. Will wait and see how bad the grind is I guess. I've spent over several days playtime grinding out my gear and I doubt i'm going to want to spend another several days playtime grinding out the SAME EXACT gear over again.

3 通の返信Does that mean that we wont be able to upgrade ps exclusives that way ? Coz Xurs inventory have to be the same for both systems.

What a way to reward your loyal customers. All those exotics you grinded for, doing nightfalls on three characters, VOG every week, hours doing PvP, chasing exotic bounties, etc. Al those weeklies you did to buy the weapons from Xur and you now have to buy 7 coins to upgrade what legitimately dropped for you plus a heap of glimmer. You also need to wait until Xur allows you to do this and it resets all progress. Thanks Bungie for rewarding us this way. A new player who gets an exotic drop gets a far better deal than we ever did. Grinding for materials on planets, etc. Why would you make it so unfair to your loyal players. Surely upgrade progress should be kept and you just need to get the last one, two or three parts, so that the weapon remains at the same level as it was before.

1 返信The only way I can see this resetting work out is if the resetting starts the exotics at a slightly higher attack/defense/light than before (I.e. A fully upgraded ice breaker 300 starts at 302 like some of the weapons we have seen in pictures from dlc 1)

Vendictaにより編集済み: 12/3/2014 9:47:51 PMSo you are releasing stronger legendary weapons and only able to upgrade exotics ? I am gonna take a stab in the dark and say our current raid/crucible legendary weapons will be obsolete now ?

2 通の返信It would seem the first thing people will do is upgrade their exotic armor piece. If your not lv 30 and just missing one raid piece to hit 30 this should push you over the edge (if all items are fully upgraded). Allowing those of us stuck at 29 to hit 30 for the new raid coming out next week.

Please BUNGIE don't do this to us. I love all BUNGIE games including Destiny and I will continue to support it and play it! But please don't make us restart all our guns for one upgrade. Please don't do this. I never disagreed with anything you guys or gals over at BUNGIE did, but this is just ridiculous. So many people have jobs, it will take them forever to upgrade their guns. But besides that from what the community has said, we are kindly asking to fix that system you have or will implement!!

10 通の返信What about the exotics you get from bounties and the vex mythoclast? How will this be implemented on those weapons?

24 通の返信This sucks make me grind for the added buffs not for the stuff I already upgraded instead of spending time enjoying the game I have to spend time grinding more mats and exp for perks I already paid for? Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

6 通の返信So in theory I should quit trying to level any exotics that I may want to upgrade and instead focus on leveling up my legendaries? Am I reading this right - assuming story is true?
-
3 通の返信Resetting the upgrades is a major slap in the face for those who spend an obscene amount of time upgrading ALL their exotics. Not just the ones I use, all the crap in my vault. My OCD demanded it. I think this really is bad game design. A some new content to experience, and once again an XP farming-fest to upgrade the same weapons, to have them function the same as before but at 323 damage instead of 300. It's gonna feel really sucky to upgrade a weapon and have to level it all over again and slowly regain perks you have already been using for weeks/months. No new experience, the same upgrade path. No new interesting gameplay, just a different number on your screen. I think this is quite lame. At least offer a serious XP buff on weapons that were full upgraded. Pffff, might as well dismantle my fully upgraded bounty exotics and keep fresh ones around for when Xur offers their upgrade option. Right now there is no advantage to having upgraded a weapon. There should be some kind of reward for that effort.

5 通の返信
Each week, he’ll offer some (but not all) exotic items as being available to upgrade.
So im guessing this means hawkmoon and monte carlo cannot be upgraded?

2 通の返信I am now very happy that i have 2 gjallarhorns, i can keep my max one while i level the other one to be even better

8 通の返信so if i understand this correctly: you can still upgrade all your exotics that you currently own to maximum level (currently 300). you then have the option to swap it out with Xur to get a version that can be upgraded above level 300? and you start over at zero with the new, beefier weapon?
