I like to think of it as the parent saying "Oh, you know what? Flipping a coin to decide who gets candy IS unfair, how about I give you the chance to earn your candy as well, if you do enough work then you can buy some from me." When you look at it this way they both earned their candy, one from putting in time through the raid and maybe getting it first go (I got two raid pieces an exotic weapon and aetheons epilogue on my first run through, but that's it, meaning I bought my boots from IB as screw running raids over and over and I had an exotic helmet from Xur) and the other from putting time in to earn tokens to buy an equivalent piece.

I do, it's in my vault. Why would I wear the raid helmet that gives not nearly as good of benefits as my exotic helmet?
