Sorry for the wall of text, this topic is getting big with all the great feedback.
In regards to "the enemy is moving against each other" events:
These events are a lot of fun, but I don't really see the point. They don't happen very often, and there's no reward at all for getting involved.
My idea is this: Make them happen in more than 1 spot per planet (if possible), make them a little grander scale, and throw in a couple badass enemies like bosses at the end that have a chance to drop worthwhile stuff if killed in time.
This would inject a lot of life into patrolling, and give people another reason to do it besides material farming and silly bounties.
Imagine rolling through an area and suddenly it gets overrun, so you scramble as many friends as possible together or team up with randoms in the area to take down the hoards with a possibility of exotics or something dropping if completed. The best news is this is already kinda coded into the game, would be a seemingly quick fix for Bungie to add some meaning to it and give us good incentive to patrol and explore.
Thoughts? Love it? Hate it?
EDIT: Thanks for the positive feedback everyone.
Let's face it, patrol is dying. No reason currently at all for high level players to step foot in there at all. Just thought I'd share some of the ideas that came out of this thread so far, with the idea of improving patrol:
1. The original idea that I had has been met with overwhelming positive feedback, something of this sort should be considered. We love the chaos, make it happen more, bigger scale, bigger rewards! Make it hard on us, make us work for it, give us a penalty for dying in the wars, etc!
2. Hard mode patrol that offers a greater challenge with greater rewards for high level players. I.E. Better loot, more xp, enemies that are actually challenging.
3. Patrol Bounties when completed offer a rare chance at a "special" bounty that has you take out a very tough target (requiring a fire team) for a chance at great loot (legendaries and exotics). This operates much in the same way that regular tower bounties have a rare chance to give you exotic bounties. We need a reason to do patrol bounties, this is it!
4. High-level ultras that have a random chance to spawn in patrol that require a fireteam to take out. Maybe they spawn randomly, maybe if you kill X amount of enemies in Y area there's a chance to spawn? Maybe some decent loot here too? This encourages exploring of the environments that the folks at Bungie have invested a lot of time crafting. I know this one would be tricky to implement from a developers standpoint, but hey... It's something.
EDIT 2: This thread just got necro-bumped haha. It's an old one, but now that patrol is more or less officially dead, it'd completely relevant.

Sad they haven't done this already or have even have thought of it but they should definitely make some hordes Attack us because it is just so fun to be overwhelmed and get those moments when u use ur super to kill 15+ enemies or that adrenaline when u know ur going to die but u kill as many enemies as possible to put up a fight. But their reason might be because of lag so u have to take that into consideration but if they don't have this high tech stuff to accomplish this by destiny 2 then that will be a problem. Bump

Definitely a great idea, even farming for glimmer in patrol is pointless when you can repeat certain checkpoints, slaughter a giant wave of enemies then rinse and repeat. As of now patrol just offers no fun for me anymore, even the public events have list their appeal. Bungie please consider this idea or a spin off of this idea, keep the game fun for all players!

Another good idea would be to add in some ideas from the ahamkara idea, add some hostile wildlife like bears and boars on earth, don't know about moon, ahamkara and serpent like creatures on Venus, and like a scorpion or desert creature on Mars, then from this fauna you can add drops that allow you to build armor pieces and you track down a large one to make your gear legendary or exotic. This adds life to patrol and will allow you to change your appearance so we don't all look alike, just today I was in the tower and me and a friend and a rando looked EXACTLY the same except for our head.
So how exactly am I supposed to become legend if I look like everyone else?
on Venus if you are a blade dancer super with the ability that kills give more super energy and the wave of force thing you can cap the vex off who will constantly re spawn and give you unlimited engrams until the event ends

2 通の返信I seen many worst walls of text, don't worry. But I love the ideas, both for a more rewarding war and the harder patrols. Right now they're a chore, this could make them great.

2 通の返信Maybe put a random or guaranteed chance of putting special majors (with unique name) or maybe even an ultra in set places of the patrols. Example: Youre entering the Refinery in patrol mode and you encounter "Faksor, Devil Priest" wich would be an ultra and maybe he could drop a special weapon or an Exotic Bounty, wich leads to my next idea you may found Exotic Bounties in patrol. Example: Youre visting the Endless Steps on patrol and you suddenly come across a vex ultra that has a chance to spawn only in patrol and you needed to invite friends to take down Or maybe in certain well hidden places put an old audio log that may lead you to a secret treasure maybe containing exotics, Hard to do Quests that can only be found by doing the patrols.

1 返信Also how about setting weapon specific bosses in public events. Ie; Hand cannons only? Rockets only Etc

2 通の返信#DeeJ This is fantastic. Stronger patrols and public events would be nice. Make it a challenge to bring down a Fallen Walker, maybe it could scale to whoever many Guardians are in the the vicinity. These bosses should be guaranteed to drop blue to purple engrams. I'd like the enemy is moving against eachother almost to be a perpetual state for at least one area, give it that real battle feel. Have a Weekly HIDDEN bounty that has set a randomized number of kills for such an engagement instance that you have to reach to collect. Could be specific enemies like legionaries or hydras, or simply the Vex or Fallen. Destiny should evolve where their is a before 20 and above... Once you attain that light level, you open up a much harder Destiny, with leveled patrols, bosses that roam around requiring teamwork to kill or persistent solo effort. Green engrams cease to exist after level 20. Engrams are a testament to your strength and legend. You Braved the inferno of the Hive, outwitted the Vex and purged the Cabal, your reward is material, engrams, Xp boosters, new bounties and commendations that show prove you fought the true Darkness, the one that truly engulfs the universe. We Guardians are the last becons of light. I want to constantly be reminded that their is a struggle going on. When those events where the enemy sends forth huge masses, I feel a surge of excitement. Knowing it could be a challenge to turn them back. Any time you patrol you should encounter this. No matter what, their is a fundamental difference between guardians who are level 1 to 20 and those who have accessed the light and have surged from 20 into 32 and beyond. We should not be hampered by those weaker. We want to face challenges but not as simple daily and weekly challenges. Destiny is a struggle, and the challenges are a test of that extreme. But the normal engagement needs to feel just as challenging, not to be taken lightly. Phew, sorry for the wall of text. Went a bit beyond myself. #DeeJ

Yeah I ran into one on my Titan alt the other day and decided to see how long I could survive being attacked by both sides - didn't die until the very end, right before they retreated :/ The bubble is love, the bubble is life.

1 返信I like this idea, especially because running the strikes over and over gets old. This could be a great way to mix things up a bit. Also the idea of a survival mode is great. More and more waves of enemies come and you only get one life. The longer your group stays alive the better the chance for good loots.
