I would like to know of it is offensive to Americans when someone in a fireteam party says "Merica!" or refers to one as a "Murican". And not also when playing Destiny but also in this forum. I am not from the U.S. so I would like to know.
Last night doing the raid one party member blew himself up by firing a rocket launcher directly inside a Titan's shield, and when he laughed someone else said "...that's not funny...it may be to you because you hail from Murica!"... and I thought that was funny but did not laugh because silence ensued. Everyone kept quiet about it.
So is it an offense? The internet tells me Americans like to joke about it too, but I dont know if its the same as being called a bitch or an idiot.
Any thoughts?

Wou Fewwignoにより編集済み: 11/14/2014 9:48:41 PMThe people who it offends are probably just over sensitive. I understand the stereotype. As a whole Americans are fairly ignorant.
I'm American. Though I'd love to move to Toronto.
If someone gets butt hurt just laugh at them. If someone can't make fun of themself or take a joke then they deserve a good mocking at the hands of their betters.

No I don't find that offensive... But being married to a Canadian and being called a "Yank" or "Yankee" on occasion (I know this is popular with Canucks, Brits, and Aussies), this one you have to watch out for calling people from the south. If they have a southern or "hick" accent beware. Yank is a derogatory term southerners use to refer to northerners in the states. 'murica is definitely a hick term but I think most of us can take a joke.

If you ever google image search Murica, you'll probably die laughing. From my prespective, it's fine to say, i even say it sometimes as a joke. If someones running around in ghost sheet and pointed hat saying 'Murica', I'll be honest, I'll shit my pants and run as fast as i can.

Best Engineers - Germany - + Einstein Best Scientists - England - Stephen Hawking/Richard Dawkins Best Motors - Italy - Ferrari/Lambo Best Comedian - America - George W Bush.
This is merely an attempt to lighten the mood of OTT patriotism that has blown up here, I mean no harm
*Edit - This was purely for light entertainment purposes and holds no weight accuracy wise and is by no means meaning to omit any great countries and their fantastic Heroes :)

1 返信Lord Remossにより編集済み: 11/14/2014 9:23:09 PMI'm an American, and I don't find it offensive (for the most part). I was raiding with some Aussies the other day and one of them made the joke. We all had a good laugh. People need to relax and not sweat the little things in life.

It is what it is. Can't help where you're from, so rather than be offended, it's better to be able to joke about it. I mean, if you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh it? Sucks being lumped into a group though, we're all unique individuals. Just like not all Brits have bad teeth, and not all German's like sodomy ...

My favorite thing is to do something dumb like that and yell Merica! I think most Americans actually like that. I'm from Texas so I know people who say that just cz of accents. It's incredible. We have shirts that say Merica! Merica!!!!!

Its_Sokiにより編集済み: 11/14/2014 8:56:07 PMYeah please drop all the Murica jokes you want cause I for one love the accents and general little quips of other cultures and find them absolutely hilarious and fun to well for lack of a better word "mock" or mimic stereotypes I suppose. It's all I. Good fun

3 通の返信Depends on the usage... A lot of people NOT from America use it to insult the americans and the mentality of ignorant, backwood prick's. that is insulting. So I say in the way it is used, like more slang or curse words....

1 返信When I say "Murica", It is in reference to someone doing something stupid that could be considered stereotypically American such as an uneducated hillbilly shooting himself in the foot. So in how my friends and I use the term it was very fitting for this scenario.

It's not offensive. Anyone who takes it offensively is trolling. Its a way American's make fun of themselves. It was an old meme. Some other media sources also used it. South Park used it. Nothing offensive about it. Say it all you wish. I'd love to have someone in my fireteam make Murcia jokes.
