Xur has been an inflammatory presence since his first appearance, selling exotic weapons for apparently too little, depreciating the "value" of these otherwise fabulously rare treasures. While Bungie has been reasonably swift to respond to other game issues, such as the cave and the DLC controversy, they've remained silent with Xur.
I am here to tell you why.
First and foremost all of you who claim to have "earned" your exotics need to get that idea right out of your head. You do not "earn" a Last Word by playing in the crucible. You do not "earn" an Ice Breaker by exploiting a safe spot to beat the weekly nightfall. You do not "earn" a Skull of Dire Ahamkara by decrypting an engram. It. Is. All. Luck.
If it was "earning" I would have all three of those items because I've done all those things! Many times!
Second of all, the currently available exotics DO NOT CONSTITUTE THE ENTIRETY OF THE GAME. It's embarrassing that people can't see that. There's datamined, cold, hard evidence on the Destiny database site. There are legendary weapons, currently unobtainable, with higher quality levels than currently available exotics. So we can only imagine what yet-to-be-released exotic gear will be like.
Just wait and see. In time we will all regard the Ice Breaker and SUROS Regime as entry-level exotics when we have far better. Xur sells these items because while they may be some of the best things around now... they won't be for long.

1 返信Xur should sell every exotic weapon and armor 24/7 because RNG and cryptarch are horrible. Sorry to tell you, but casual players decide the fate of a game and right now Destiny's isn't looking too good. There is no earning in Destiny, just dumb luck and even dumber elitist gamers.

3 通の返信HawkMoon what is sadder is that I pour hours into this game haven't gotten a single exotic by luck. But recently I ran someone through the Nightfall ( I got strange coins) and they got the HawkMoon. I then ran them through the Raid and they got Universal Remote so all YOU RNG LUCkY PUNkS BETTeR QUIT IT RNG IS NOT EARNING IT !!! EARNING IT IS HOw I GET STRaNGE COINS FOR THE NIGHtFALL ON BOTH CHaRACtERS THAn buy an exotic from XUR!!!!!!! It was both their first Nightfall and Raid !!!!

The only thing I think you earn in most if not all games is achievements or trophies. Any game that has loot in it is all luck. My wife made a great analogy last night (after watching me play for awhile and seeing the loot/reward system) that hoping to get a legendary or exotic in destiny after a strike.or pvp anything, is like people who encounter a master difficulty chest in skyrim hoping to maybe unlock it and then hoping a great item or items are in it only to find it contains a potato......a potato!, which I have seen happen to her when she plays it.

3 通の返信Collecting 150 vanguard marks and buying a gun is earning. Completing an exotic bounty is earning. Doing the weekly heroic twice in 30 minutes to get 18 strange coins to buy an exotic gun is no more "earning" than getting it from grinding strikes for a week.
-
The only gear truly earned is that which is purchased using vanguard/crucible marks, or any other form of currency. You work to earn that currency and in turn you use it to buy a weapon. my hand cannon The Devil You Know is definitely earned, I had to rank up vanguard and earn 150 marks. If someone got the same gun from a random drop and claimed to earn it then they are talking crap, because luck =/= earning.

6 通の返信I agree with all of that I hope you don't mind me adding a bit of my thoughts. With the exception of exotic bounty weapons which certainly have to be earned the only other gear that can realistically be said a player 'earned' is gear from the raid? Even then there is RNG involved. Unlike all other gear which can drop randomly, be awarded to you for ranking up and/or purchased from a vendor raid gear is locked to that one event and its not something a player can just sit and AFK all day and expect to have all the gear by the end if it. Players have to put in time and effort to complete it on both normal and hard to get that gear and then more than likely wait another week to do it all again to get what they didn't the first/second/third time they ran it. Some people will undoubtedly want to argue 'but players just create multiple characters to run it more than once a week'. My response to this is; funny I must have missed that video on how to kill one enemy to gain 20 levels. Levelling 2 characters (or more for the truly hardcore) is not easy it takes time and effort and even then they still have to run the raid with these alt characters. Events like the Queens Wrath could also be said to have gear that has to be earned (as laughable as that may sound to some) Players had to complete bounties and then kill orders to get the Queens Wrath gear. I'm sure some would consider the bounties and kill orders to be a joke but you still had to work for them you still had to take part in the game you couldn't just buy them or wait around killing things for them to drop. This brings us to Xur now yes his items are a guaranteed exotic but the currency isn't guaranteed unless I missed a patch which awarded daily Strange Coins and Motes of Light just for logging in. Gaining 23 levels in a week is gruelling and that's being nice but it's a guarantee for getting the necessary Motes to buy Xur's Engram. And you can only guarantee 9 max Strange Coins a week for which you have to complete the weekly heroic. I'd say in both these cases you earned it. The only other way to get coins and motes is pure random chance from chests and engrams... But wait isn't that how some of you say you 'earn' your legendary/exotic gear?

2 通の返信If you got your exotic through a bounty, then fine, you earned it. If you got it as a random drop then stfu and get on with your life. Buying an exotic with coins earned through weeklies is earning it, just like buying something irl with money earnt at your job.
-
Agreed. By sheer dumb luck, I was running a level 22 strike on the moon in the Vanguard Tiger Playlist and after killing an ordinary Wizard, a Legendary Engram dropped. As if that wasn't lucky enough, It decrypted into The Last Word. Uhm, What? I've since had 10 more Legendary Engrams that have given -blam!- all except for a set of gauntlets I've since replaced with the Gloves of the Hezen Lords from the Raid. I've busted by tail and bought every other piece since, including a couple from Xur like my Suros and Eye of the Third Man. Kinda irritated that I need 6 more strange coins and I could've bought the Warlock Chest piece since I don't have an exotic armor piece or the Ice Breaker for 10 more, but that's the game. Maybe next week. Its what keeps me coming back to it. I grind out every week and sometimes I'm disapointed, and other times, I'm ecstatic.

1 返信The problem is people want to feel special and if you sell what they randomly found (some how constituting as earned and yet these same people would yell at farmers with the loot cave who earned everything in the same manner). If they can't be special because RNG worked in their favor once or twice then they feel cheated... because. Their oarguments fall so flat when it dawns on people that earnning coins is more work then RNG and so people buying it have actually more legit reasons for having the weapon.

3 通の返信Holy WarriorOO7により編集済み: 10/11/2014 7:07:37 PMAnyone know what crazy armor this is on my profile pic ? I have seen so many of these titan armors in pre-beta trailers and pics but none in the game. Could these be future DLC/ Dev only items or hidden deep in the game ?

With the exception of exotic bounties. Those are not random and I love my Invective. Technically I earned that one. I knew what item I was getting before I started and completed tasks to obtain it. With that being said. If Xur sold it next week. I'd encourage people to buy it. It's a great shotgun. Only downfall is it takes a long time to reload. I wouldn't freak out and plan on quitting the game...

3 通の返信100% agree In Destiny, "earning gear" and "Destiny" are pretty much mutually exclusive. Yes you can "earn" it from rep and marks, that's a matter of perception, really you earn rep and marks, then buy the gear. This is by design. You arent supposed to be handed Exotics and Legendary's. You are supposed to grind for Coins, Motes, Marks and Rep so you CAN BUY it. If something drops for you, HOORAY! You are lucky! Good for you. Now shut up. I am trying to kill FOUR effing wizards in the Summoning Pits for Thorn...either help or eff off.
