I like playing destiny. But i don't like destiny itself, if that even makes sense. It's like that coworker you always gossip with but never invite to hangout outside of work. Sure he's your friend, but he isn't really your friend is he? When this game launched and the shit storm of people critiquing this games lack of variety in its content followed, it was met with a somewhat decent argument. More content, free content, is coming. This is the beginning of the first story arc, and it will be wrapped up with additional content before the first dlc begins the next arc. All you have to do is wait. Do you really think that THIS is all there is? 5 strikes and a raid? Have faith guardians. We were re-assured more content would be released after the game came out. Ever changing world where you never get bored, remember? The queens wrath event loomed over our heads, cool we get to go back to the reef? We get called upon by the queen to fulfill that debt we established in what small story we played? New missions, maybe a new strike? A cutscene or two? We were young, we were foolish dreamers, but we wanted to believe more was coming. No, its just the old story missions on heroic. Well, that sucks. The iron banner event though, at least we had that to look forward to. All these weeks of grinding through the same recycled and already inherently repetitive content will finally be worth it because we get to put all this gear to the test. Pve players who dislike crucible will become demi gods who only the most skilled of players will be able to take down. I would talk of how cool it would be to wind up against a team of lv 30s, only to barely beat them with my slightly outmatched lv 29. All the while laying waste to anyone foolish enough to try with their lv 24s. No, its control with a new faction rep to grind. That sucks too. Do you know what the word "event" means bungie? In general terms, it usually means that something is happening... What happened in the queens wrath that we weren't already doing? How is iron banner any different than what we are already doing? Are we done waiting yet? Again destiny isnt a bad game but it is not what it claims to be. This stale anti social world where you don't talk to people while you fight the same idiotic AI albeit with four different skins. All in an effort to get better gear that has little to no effect on the game, other than allowing you to now play harder versions of what you're already playing. People were pretty confident more would come, that all these greyed out locations on the map would become accessible over time, that the story will wrap itself up to some extent before the dlc comes out and begins the next "chapter". But we were wrong, thats not whats happening. This is EVERYTHING THERE IS, if you want more buy the dlc. End of story. I hate liking destiny so much. I really, truly do. EDIT: i posted this below but i'll put it here as well. Little update Since i made this post Deej appeared on a podcast based on destiny. The full summary is on reddit and you can download it off twitch, i may post the link when I'm home but it shouldn't be hard to find on reddit. Basically the interview with deej confirms my original post. They ask about an evolving story being released over time and deejs response is akin to "thats what they were going to do but things change" So i consider it confirmed, no free content outside of slightly reskinned items and patch updates is coming. Damnit bungie I used to love you guys. But oh well, i'll have returned to halo before the dlc comes out and i wont have to make another post about how the dlc barely manages to be different then the stale repetitiveness we already have. A lv 10 story mission on old Russia is a pretty piss poor example of "new content" if you ask me.
