Alright, so there has been no end to people complaining about the game being carved up, stuff being removed for DLC, etc. Most of it I agree with, but I'm still enjoying Destiny.
Now, I've known there's Playstation exclusive stuff. I get it, you don't like Microsoft and Sony/Activision threw a bunch of money at you. (So you immediately go and sign up with Activision after getting out of your MS contract? But that's another rant.)
But an entire Strike?
Let me get this straight. You're punishing your paying customers by withholding content in a game where lack of content is one of the largest complaints, simply because they're playing your game on a system made by a company you're a bit butt-flustered with and are open to taking a bit of cash to mess with?
You're mad at someone, so you take it out on those loyal to you?
That's pretty messed up.
When you're creating a game, you need to be asking yourself "does this thing I am investing effort in benefit the players." And if the answer is "no" - as is the case here - then there is no reason you should be doing it.
None.
Edit: For those asking, the strike is Dust Palace on Mars.
Edit 2: Since apparently some people still think the console wars are a thing, I'll add that this post is not about Xbox being better or deserving anything; it is not about us vs you or we get this exclusive and you get this exclusive. I would be making this post no matter which console I personally play on. We are all gamers. I do not segregate based on platform, gender, race or creed and neither should you.
This post is about excellent developers wanting to create excellent products for their excellent customers. It is about the growing acceptance of developers intentionally going the extra mile to do things that very specifically are not in their customers' best interests.
Edit 3: Alright, this post has kinda blow up and there are a couple common themes I'll address here rather than constant replies:
1) "But Bungie already sold out with Halo being XBox exclusive, this is just more of the same!"
No, it's actually not. Now, I'm going to have to swallow my pride here, because as a long time PiD-Marathon-Myth Bungie Mac fanboy, I was pissed at the time. But at the end of the day, it was done with us, the customers, in mind.
With the funding they received from Microsoft, they were able to turn their small but impressive MacWorld demo into a full fledged, gorgeous game. And (while it pains me to say it) with the newly emerging Xbox console, they were able to reach a fan base far greater than they ever would have on the Mac.
Compare that to the "exclusive" content here. We have stuff developed and then roped off for half of the player base, for no reason from the customer's standpoint. We have zero benefit here. Bungie is now a well established company. They are backed with hundreds of millions. The additional cash provided by small exclusivity bonuses no doubt had little bearing on the final product that is Destiny. This is the difference. This is the problem.
2) "PS4 deserves it, go suck a nut you Xbaby"
I already covered this, but apparently people don't read? Maybe if I type it twice.
We're all in this together, guys. We don't need to segregate ourselves into petty communities based on the logo on the front of our plastic box. We're all gamers, and we all want the best experience possible. So drop the juvenile tough guy act. Sonic and Mario put aside their differences ages ago, you can too.
Edit 4: TL;DR
"Console exclusive stuff is just how it works, what can we do about it?"
We can let the people making the games know that we don't appreciate being carved into groups and set against each other like a corporate dog fight. We can voice our opinions on forums meant for feedback, like these ones right here.
Edit 5: BEHOLD, the Ball-Pit Echo-Chamber. Should you find your comments enclosed within its walls, then I fear you have missed the point of this thread entierly.

Grasp at the netting and fight for air; there are those of us who would assist you in escaping its confines, should you so allow us.
If you need proof of the divided community that these sort of things create, you need look no further than the replies to this post.

2 通の返信Not that it makes it any better but it's just as boring as all the others. Run in Dinklebot unlocks door after you kill waves of enemies. Run up a floor Dinklebot unlocks door after you kill waves of 2 types of enemies. Run up a floor kill 3 psion flayers (each have different shield) and waves of adds. Wait a freaking second. The top of this level is open air at the top of a tall building. Why didn't the ship just drop us off at the top....? Stupid game...

1 返信I'm in total agreement. I only own a PS4 this gen and it's likely to be that way for the forseeable future but these exclusive content deals just hurt the consumer. It's totally different to first party titles with massive investment and input from Sony or MS being built from the ground up, all it is is petty playground stuff to make sure your system's box is at the front of the store display. The only thing worse than companies buying exclusive content is companies buying up timed exclusivity on third party titles. Rise of The Tomb Raider is getting boycotted by me for that exact reason. It's petty and it alienates paying customers.
-
1 返信On the other hand, how do you feel about sponsored content? Say Sony gives Bungie a bunch of cash, and they create extra content for the PS? The problem is of course that we never know if they actually created extra content, or they just cut out some of the existing and repackaged it. Not that I am particularly impressed by the content, the strike is decent but you wont miss it. And I haven't seen any sign of the exclusive weapons. This whole raging exclusivity debate has been a tempest in a teapot, if you ask me. Xboxers wont miss it at all, unless they google it and decide that they have been cheated.

6 通の返信It's timed! Chill out X1 has plenty of timed content on other upcoming games. Also it's not just a strike it's gear, weapons and pvp map too.
-
1 返信Ps4 owners feels same way about tomb raider! That IP has always been on playstation it started on playstation now they give xbox timed exclusivity? Bungie done the same to xbox owners with destiny despite halo being xbox best game. It's just business.
-
Yes an exclusive strike that is useless just like all other missions in the game, boring and repetitive. U r not losing anything new, trust me. And that strike "playlist" is not even good, with only 5 strikes lol
-
It'll never end, Sony and MS are competitors they will do what they can to sway players to their console. Even if it is alienating half the video gaming community. It's ridiculous but it's life. You just gotta hope you're on the right console. They are the real villains here, not Bungie.

4 通の返信Xbox exclusive material was a thing long before the Sony Bungie project. Thus Sony players had their fair share of what Microsoft players are having now.

1 返信Stopped reading it quarter of the way through. Cod gets early dlc from activation on Xbox. Stop whining play the God damn game.

Zero the Remnantにより編集済み: 10/8/2014 11:15:53 AMTimed Exclusives have been going on for a while now. Its how they try to strongarm consumers into buying their product. I do not and have not agreed to it ever since its conception. However...I see why business' do it. That said. Microsoft and X-Box started this with Call of Duty, Battlefield (this maybe inaccurate), various sports titles. And even with some full release games such as Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare. The shoe is on the other foot this time. I hate to be a douchebag & say deal with it. But that is really all you can do.
-
I see your point, but unfortunately, bungie is now sealed by contract. Bungie didn't give Sony exclusive because they hate Microsoft, it was because Sony payed them money to do it, as which Sony does in many multi platform games. So now there isn't much to do but wait for more strikes. Don't worry though. Dust palace is way too hard to be well designed.( 3 bosses with the same health as one boss normally )
-
It's a timed exclusive, PS has 3 sets of legendary armor, 3 legendary ships, one crucible map : Exodus Blue, two exotics : Hawkmoon (HC) & Monte Carlo (AR) and last but not least the dust palace strike! It will be timed till fall 2015.

1 返信Do you know how much shit is locked behind a dlc lock on the disc? Way more than one strike

3 通の返信What I like are people complaining about how Bungie had Halo exclusive to Xbox, when if I remember correctly Microsoft was the one who owned the franchise. Even if I'm slightly off target, that doesn't mean people should ignore the fact that Halo was exclusive to one console, while Destiny is given to two consoles. That fact alone invalidates any such comparison.

1 返信I own a PS4, but if you want to complain about a strike mission, couple gear sets, weapons, and ships.... then to all their own. Keep in mind however, that early content to Xbox has been widely available far before it started with PS. Huge upcoming example of this is the sequal to Tomb Raider.... Xbox will get a full game for an "extended time period" before PS.... now that seems far more hurtful to the consumers.... but as I mentioned before... to all their own.
-
The bottom line with this Playstation-exclusive Strike is this: if there were more than 5 to choose from for the Xbox crowd, it wouldn't be such a big deal. But 'comon... 5 Strikes? FIVE? Five that seem like 3, might I add...

1 返信Yes Xbox1 gor Ryce of Rome or what-ever and PS4 got a strike in destiny and a few exotics that aren't wery good (haven't seen the specs on hawkmoon, but doubt it'a particulary better than my lord of death). It's the nature of exclusives. Xbox1 got the better deal here...

Their paying customers inclcude Sony, who paid them to keep the content exclusive as a way to boost PlayStation sales. If you want the full experience, go out and buy a PS4/Destiny glacier white bundle! Unique strikes, weapons, and more!* If you want the ultimate Destiny experience, it's only on PlayStation! Get the PlayStation headphones if you want to hear the game the way it was meant to be! That's not me telling you that you should go get a ps4, that's me telling you what Sony is doing as a paying customer to Bungie/Activision. Sadly for xbox owners, Microsoft didn't beat Sony to the bribing, and didn't win console exclusivity. That's the real reason games come out on a single console anyways: a company pays the developers to not release it on other consoles, paying them extra knowing the game will boost console sales, while paying off the dev company helps make up sales they'd obtain if selling their game multi-platform. They aren't necessarily upset at Microsoft (though they may be) but Sony paid them to get exclusive content for a year to help boost PS4 sales knowing people would opt to buy a PS4 over an XBone if they get a better Destiny experience on the former console and not the latter. For those of us that already had our consoles, the playstation owners got their patience and time worth, and the xbox owners hit a stroke of bad juju with this thorn in their side. It's the fate of all fools to take the super good advice of getting a playstation now if only as a plan C, and that's the truth. One last word, sorry for the ice breaker of using exotic weapons to describe this situation. I've kinda wanted to since I saw the odd names of most of them...
