Edit2: Quite a few people have replied about how they 'clear' a zone, go to another one and then come back and everything has respawned. I am here to dispel this illusion. You should never have to leave your zone at all. Once one node/chest is looted, another will respawn immediately elsewhere in your zone. Don't waste time traveling back and forth between 2 different zones. Instead, use that time to learn the spawn points a little better to make your loops that much more profitable.
Also, while I am at work I cannot confirm this, but I am almost positive that turning in bounties does not give you marks. If I am wrong, I will slap my own wrists. However, if I am right, all of those people screaming to just do the pvp bounties won't help with marks, only rep.
Edit1: I forgot to mention that while farming materials, I also kill every mob on the route as well as completing any patrol missions that don't require me to leave the mini zone. I get at least 5 or so blue engrams each hour, rep from the patrol missions and exp from killing eveeything. I also stop and complete the public event each time he pops up as well. If you did none of these, you may well be able to push it past 150/hour!
I see a lot of people complaining about being forced to pvp in order to get those extra 100 marks for more epics and shards/energies. I am here to tell you about an option you know about, but probably didn't realize how efficient it can actually be.
To start off, you all know you need 100 marks to cap your vanguard/crucible for the week. I am sure that you know that you also can turn in 50 of any material (spinmetal, relic iron, spirit bloom, helium coils) for rep/marks to the quartermaster of either the vanguard or the crucible. You get 5 marks for every 50 of any material you turn in, as well as 250 glimmer and a bit of rep for that faction. This translates into 10 materials needed per every mark you need to earn. For instance, if you wanted to cap your entire 100 vanguard/crucible marks (as I have done for the past two weeks for crucible), you need 1,000 of any of the 4 materials.
At first glance, it may seem like a daunting task. However, if you are one of those out there that can't stand to sit in the crucible for 15 minute matches and only get 2 marks for a loss, then this may be the option for you. Find an area that you know where most of the material and chest spawn points are at. Once you know your circuit, pop on a movie or some music and make your rounds. Personally, I enjoy Mars the most. I come from an MMO background and farming things is something I enjoy. I actually kept track of the last two hours of farming before posting this and I was able to get 150 relic iron per hour on Mars. This equates to a little over 6 hours of farming to get crucible marks maxed for the week, which in my opinion trumps spending 12 hours in the crucible losing 50 matches to max instead!
I realize this post isn't flaming someone, whining, or begging for something to be changed. Sorry for thinking outside the box and trying to help the community of players who actually like the game! Peace out, and good farming.

4 通の返信While I have heard that people can get exotics and legendaries from chests I have never found one and I have not heard of anyone getting one in my friends list. I have however seen lots of exotics given away in the crucible and have received two myself. While I really like your idea this point should also be considered.

4 通の返信Turning in a group of 50 materials also grants a significant amount of experience as well, for those who didn't know.

22 通の返信Materials are more valuable than crucible marks, and when you're someone like me who translates crucible marks into ascendant shards, playing the crucible to GET marks and keeping your materials is far more efficient than spending materials just to get marks to get gear that you salvage for materials, then you have to recollect all the materials you spent trying to get those marks. Not very efficient that way.

Best post in awhile, as I am the mat farming kinda fellow because pvp isn't my cup of tea. I am a fan of the grind and rpg aspect of this game, not much if a pvp fan, with that said I still enjoy playing the crucible with my friends but it usually ends in a frenzy of hate and curse words. Lol Imma sore loser. :) so needless to say I didn't even think about turning in mats gor crucible marks, thank you for a bright light in my dark time given I need crucible marks to get the hand cannon I want from the FWC. kudos to you sir.

11 通の返信-blam!- running around doing nothing for 6-7 hours a week. Spend 6-7 hours running vanguard tiger and you'll probably get more legendaries to break down for shards than mindless loop farming anyway.

7 通の返信mc mackieにより編集済み: 10/4/2014 5:26:40 PMHi I tried this yesterday and I wanted to share my toughts. I tried this on a spot I like (It's the first one that came to my mind when I started), it is on Venus, the very open area right before where you kill the first cyclops in the story. There is various spirit bloom plants here, infinite fallen and vex, a public event, infinite chests (not hard to find at all, and easier when you learn the spawn locations.) I don't know the exact amount I got in like 15 min of game, but it was good and that was only the beggining because I was just getting used to the place and learning the locations. TIPS: there is a grimoire bonus for Ishtar Sink (and all the locations)that when killing certain amount of enemies (I think 2500 is the first rank) you start getting extra materials from the material nodes, so instead of getting 1 spirit bloom from a plant you get 2 and I think you can get up to 3 for each plant. So activate your fallen extra glimmer items, kill a lot of enemies, search for the spirit blooms and the chests, wait for the public event, and you will be getting excellent results It was fun but no challenge at all

1 返信While this is true and it is good advice it is also painfully slow but never let it be said that strictly PVE gamers like myself can't equipment from the Crucible or Faction venders.

4 通の返信I am having some difficulty finding purple legendary gear and weapons, as well as shards and energy. Any suggestions? Thanks.

4 通の返信I must be a very bad farmer because I'm slow at getting relic iron and helium coils? Any have some advice.

1 返信I could be wrong here but if i remember correctly Can't you keep getting marks past your weekly 100 with material turn ins? So its technically an endless supply if you got the time.

Flaffenbamにより編集済み: 10/4/2014 8:26:47 PMFirstly, bravo on not coming here to make a new thread to make any complaints which already have been voiced in countless threads because you can't be bothered taking two minutes to search for your particular problem to add your voice to like minded individuals, I commend you. Secondly, this is truly not a bad idea. Obviously, you would need to have the patience to do it and sadly that is something I don't have but I do often get dragged on little farming runs with friends now and again and I tend farm while doing the "complete 6 patrol missions on X" bounties so this has now given me an idea on what to do with my excess. I don't know why I hadn't thought of it before as I knew you could trade for marks.....DERP! So I thank you kind sir for taking the time to create an informative post to help the community, these really don't appear as often as they should.

13 通の返信xMr Poorにより編集済み: 10/3/2014 9:31:25 PMPlay skirmish because the game ends at 5000 points instead of 20000. I can win about 15 skirmish matches an hour = 45 marks/hour. There is no way you can an collect 450 spinmetal in 1 hour. If you suck that bad at multiplayer FPS then you probably shouldn't be playing Bungie games.

I'm a big fan of Venus for this. The glow from the spirit blooms is really easy to spot and the area just to the left of your starting point has 4-5 resource nodes and a decent spawn rate for Fallen, including at least 1 major captain for the occasional +25 glimmer.

4 通の返信thanks for this post, im gonna try this at home later :) i really dont like playing pvp, so this is great.

2 通の返信That sounds like an idea. Oh wait, I forgot... I get either a Caterpillar or Hawk error when roaming on Patrol within 10 mins of play time.
-
2 通の返信I thought about this idea when I discovered the materials exchange, but at first it seemed like it would be harder than just playing the Crucible. Do any of you know which planet is the best for farming materials?
-
2 通の返信We'll I just learned two places in Mars patrol, where tons of yellow enemies are and where they respawn and drop loot at

I can confirm Edit 2 in it's entirety. Looping is much more profitable. Walking from one area to another in patrol mode and letting the node break LOS for a bit will cause it to respawn when you walk back into the same area. This works for both resource nodes AND silver chests. Also can confirm that Bounties do NOT award marks. Only Rep. Crucible Marks are awarded from Crucible matches. Vanguard Marks from Strikelists/Daily missions.
