Edit2: Quite a few people have replied about how they 'clear' a zone, go to another one and then come back and everything has respawned. I am here to dispel this illusion. You should never have to leave your zone at all. Once one node/chest is looted, another will respawn immediately elsewhere in your zone. Don't waste time traveling back and forth between 2 different zones. Instead, use that time to learn the spawn points a little better to make your loops that much more profitable.
Also, while I am at work I cannot confirm this, but I am almost positive that turning in bounties does not give you marks. If I am wrong, I will slap my own wrists. However, if I am right, all of those people screaming to just do the pvp bounties won't help with marks, only rep.
Edit1: I forgot to mention that while farming materials, I also kill every mob on the route as well as completing any patrol missions that don't require me to leave the mini zone. I get at least 5 or so blue engrams each hour, rep from the patrol missions and exp from killing eveeything. I also stop and complete the public event each time he pops up as well. If you did none of these, you may well be able to push it past 150/hour!
I see a lot of people complaining about being forced to pvp in order to get those extra 100 marks for more epics and shards/energies. I am here to tell you about an option you know about, but probably didn't realize how efficient it can actually be.
To start off, you all know you need 100 marks to cap your vanguard/crucible for the week. I am sure that you know that you also can turn in 50 of any material (spinmetal, relic iron, spirit bloom, helium coils) for rep/marks to the quartermaster of either the vanguard or the crucible. You get 5 marks for every 50 of any material you turn in, as well as 250 glimmer and a bit of rep for that faction. This translates into 10 materials needed per every mark you need to earn. For instance, if you wanted to cap your entire 100 vanguard/crucible marks (as I have done for the past two weeks for crucible), you need 1,000 of any of the 4 materials.
At first glance, it may seem like a daunting task. However, if you are one of those out there that can't stand to sit in the crucible for 15 minute matches and only get 2 marks for a loss, then this may be the option for you. Find an area that you know where most of the material and chest spawn points are at. Once you know your circuit, pop on a movie or some music and make your rounds. Personally, I enjoy Mars the most. I come from an MMO background and farming things is something I enjoy. I actually kept track of the last two hours of farming before posting this and I was able to get 150 relic iron per hour on Mars. This equates to a little over 6 hours of farming to get crucible marks maxed for the week, which in my opinion trumps spending 12 hours in the crucible losing 50 matches to max instead!
I realize this post isn't flaming someone, whining, or begging for something to be changed. Sorry for thinking outside the box and trying to help the community of players who actually like the game! Peace out, and good farming.

9 通の返信Personally I hate crucible! I get next to NO items in crucible; but every chest you open has 2 materials and at least one item unless your lucky and get that special chest that has 15 mats 3 blue engrams and 6 ammo packs, 25 rep for a win in 15-20 minutes from crucible when killing a "high value target" is worth the exact same amount and takes 5 minutes. You also have a chance for a public event that gives shards, motes, or energy. Personally crucible is completely pointless when the PvE world is 10 times more generous. Of course the RNG gods could love YOU in crucible, thats all well and good. but since every faction besides vanguard requires crucible points i think its unfair! Sooner or later they will update stock to a piece of gear i might want and thanks to the terrible PVP i wont ever be able to get it. I would give in 50 mats every so often keeping me over 120 just in case but now i cant and i feel like part of the games mechanic is torn away from me because i refuse to play the GOD AWFUL crucible. and i call crucible GOD AWFUL because the best player shouldnt get NOTHING and the worst gets an exotic! THAT SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN! I shouldnt go through a match and the entire team get NOTHING! or even worse; a color shader. TLDR; Crucible should NOT be mandatory to get 90% of the faction items. Crucible should be for crucible the rest should be vanguard. Im left out of the factions system because i dont play crucible. PvP should be an OPTION not MANDATORY!

3 通の返信For everyone who's confused: you can't unlock the option to trade materials for marks until you're at least level 30 and have beaten VoG 5 times on hard. It was 5 or 7 I can't remember. Or you could just play crucible.

13 通の返信Where do I turn the materials in exactly? I go to the Vanguard, and Crucible quatarmasters an they only have options to purchase materials with marks, not trade in materials for marks. I'm pretty confused...

8 通の返信Can someone tell me how to get vanguard marks? I'm not understanding the system of gaining the marks.

2 通の返信I have done everything I can do, but everytime I play in The Crucible all I get is an occasional armor or weapon and a small bit of Crucible rep. But no marks, ever! My friends always get the marks but I have yet to get a single one, and I've been play non stop pvp lately with no avail. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

1 返信GloomyGoblinにより編集済み: 1/10/2015 11:52:54 PMYou have it backwards. You can't turn materials in, you turn in vanguard/crucible marks FOR materials.

Now we gotta think of something else! Bungie can't seem to make up their minds, apparently now they prefer that we get materials for trading in marks.. But 50 materials would get you 5 marks. Whereas now double those marks gets you only 20 materials... 10 marks is steep for just 20 materials that I could get in just ten minutes of farming...

7 通の返信When I saw this threat today I couldn't wait till I got home to start farming, but I think they had an update where we can trade any more and it's actually the opposite now you trade in your marks for material=\ any one know where I can trade material for marks ?

2 通の返信for some reason every time it says i get vanguard or crucible marks it wont show up

4 通の返信no you don't get marks for bounties, only rep. you can also hear when a material or chest is near. it makes a chime type sound... is easiest heard with headphones... when you find one listen before you pop it, learn the sound... I hear them long before I see them, some are well hidden, sometimes those well hidden ones will give extra engrams, blues, and ship blue prints.

This is ridiculous though. You only have to turn in 3150 materials for a set of Legendary armor. And now you have to farm another 400 materials to upgrade that armor. Oh you want a weapon? Turn in 1750 materials for one weapon, and you still need almost 100 to upgrade said weapon. The Faction shit heads need to accept Vanguard marks as well as Crucible marks because not everyone wants to play the shitty pvp. And I do in fact play the crucible for daily bounties, that's it.
