Depends man. If you have a nvidia graphics card and it's fairly new you could use nvidias recording Software. Works great for games and only games games that I know of lol.
I have used a program called fraps and it's pretty nice and simple. You have to pay for though.
Honestly if you want the best answer. Ask on The forums of " toms hardware" great guys there. Would not say this is the best place lol

If your recording game play them nvidia shadow play is the way to go. It gives you zero frame rate drop. But recording desktop stuff, I think fraps will work for it good. But don't take my word search and see.
