I just read about Richard Dawkins. My thoughts: he's an idiot. I mean come on. Has ANYONE heard of Pascal's wager? Why would anyone not believe in God? Perhaps it's because, in their arrogance, they forgot one of the most precious rules of philosophy, YOU CAN ALWAYS BE WRONG. There is almost never a guarantee of correctness. It doesn't seem logical to risk an eternity in hell because you're too friggin cocksure. For a group that claims to be very rational and logical, they do not understand the idea of self preservation. It just irritates me that people would follow that kind of idea.
Edit: I have thought some more about the question of whether religion causes wars. I think it does. But also, think about the fact that science caused the holocaust. Science caused the many horrible deaths in world war uno. So, basically, wars are inevitable (kind've obvious). Religion and politics start wars, science fuels them. They're both equally too blame for wars.
Edit: I guess I view the religion argument as a sort of war between hope (religion) and resignation (atheism). I guess I'm just stubborn enough to not just give up and say that there is no God. I have faith because I am unwilling to not believe something simply because of all of the problems it has. And some may call me an idiot for it, but I believe in God because I'm afraid and hopeful.
Mr. OP, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Why would you? It's obvious myth and superstition. If you can't see that, then we have nothing to talk about. Since you like Dawkins so much, may I recommend my personal favorite Christopher Hitchens. He has something to say about the subject.

Aldrichにより編集済み: 4/22/2015 5:10:26 PMBecause there are other religions that make more sense. Take Buddhism, or Shinto for example. Practicioners seem to not practice hipocricy, or heresy on the same scale as Christ worshippers. People of The Book are friggin tapped. That includes all variations of Christ worshippers, Muslims, and Jews.
Please. Please just drink the Kool Aid.

Not all Muslims are tapped. Mostly the radical camp there. Wanna talk about Jews and anti semitism? Let me know when they stop hording wealth, and behaving in such a way that warrants persecution.
You can't believe in something you don't believe. Some people use reason and logic to determine what to believe and not what we were told as children to believe. You can believe in the supernatural if you want to, but saying that we should believe it at the risk of eternal suffering is insane.

I'm not afraid and I'm one of the most hopeful you will ever meet and I don't believe in God, wanna know why? I view religion as something that sets humanity back I believe we shouldn't just be waltzing through life not fully living or being a part of it because you give part of yourself to a figure that may or may not be real just to arrive at heaven at the end we should -blam!-ing make heaven here on Earth so we can all ENJOY LIFE SO GOD DAMN MUCH. P.S it's very late and this might not make sense but for those of you who understand high fives for you bros.

13 通の返信Believe in God or go to hell. If those are the only options God gives that's a dick move and not the kind of God I would want.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. People don't believe because they look at the world around them, how terrible people are, and how close minded and hateful a supposedly loving religion is, and look at science inching closer and closer to disproving this god just like it has done to all other and they think "god isn't real" very simple. Personally I don't believe in a god, but obviously it is impossible to say with 100 percent certainty so I keep and open and respectful mind Ps. I don't think an all loving god would send everyone who isn't what he wanted to hell. He would accept them as who they are. Edit Tldr: you shouldn't just believe in a god so you can get a little treat that's stupid. And a truly kind and loving god would never send people to hell anyways he'd accept them how they are. Something some bigoted Christians (small percent not close to all) can't seem to comprehend.

Hope? Hope for what? Does it scare you too much that nothing is waiting? And freedom from a magic man in the sky and his invisible leash isn't resignation. And no. Pascal's wager is not a presentable argument.
