I just read about Richard Dawkins. My thoughts: he's an idiot. I mean come on. Has ANYONE heard of Pascal's wager? Why would anyone not believe in God? Perhaps it's because, in their arrogance, they forgot one of the most precious rules of philosophy, YOU CAN ALWAYS BE WRONG. There is almost never a guarantee of correctness. It doesn't seem logical to risk an eternity in hell because you're too friggin cocksure. For a group that claims to be very rational and logical, they do not understand the idea of self preservation. It just irritates me that people would follow that kind of idea.
Edit: I have thought some more about the question of whether religion causes wars. I think it does. But also, think about the fact that science caused the holocaust. Science caused the many horrible deaths in world war uno. So, basically, wars are inevitable (kind've obvious). Religion and politics start wars, science fuels them. They're both equally too blame for wars.
Edit: I guess I view the religion argument as a sort of war between hope (religion) and resignation (atheism). I guess I'm just stubborn enough to not just give up and say that there is no God. I have faith because I am unwilling to not believe something simply because of all of the problems it has. And some may call me an idiot for it, but I believe in God because I'm afraid and hopeful.

Just to be clear someone who thinks their dog can talk is crazy, but someone who thinks that an all powerful being controls the world is religious? Also which god are we talking about? God, Allah, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Norse, Chinese, Japanese, Hindu, The Flying Spaghetti Monster, or one of the many African ones.

If I'm in the wrong for not believing in some overrated coot in the sky, then so be it. All the sinners go to Hell, yeah? Oh jeez, I wonder how awful it'd be to be surrounded by like-minded people. Whatever shall we do???

I'm dismissing your initial argument as stupid. That isn't how you make people believe, don't call the idiots or ignorants. And religion caused the holocaust, where Hitler killed the Jews. They were Jewish.

3 通の返信I've believed in God my whole life. What's the point of being against God if you are an atheist, and you end up being wrong? What if (in an atheists perspective) there is a God and you don't get into heaven because you never believed in him? What's the point of being against it if that risks eternal punishment? I just don't get it...

Reasons to not believe in God from a sinner standpoint: No premarital sex! No sex for pleasure! NO MASTURBATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No porn! No drugs! No drinking! No sleeping in on sunday morning! No living without judgment! No Slipknot!(if confused, see heretic anthem) No more thinking for myself! No more questioning "authority"! No more living my life! Yeah I think both sides have equal consequences, you could live a watered down basic life and get extremely lucky and go to heaven, or you could live your life and have fun while being a decent human being, and potentially get both. Your loss

Eeeyyy, old post is old. Why would I not believe in God? Well...simply because I refuse to lie to myself. If I tell myself "God is real"...I feel like Ive lied to myself. Because sometimes you just got to accept that some people will never feel that way. And because of that too, I will never truely be Christian, so there's no point in even pretending to be.
if there is a god,Im sure they'll understand.

And if not then I wouldn't worship them anyway.
Ogma: Destroyer of Worldsにより編集済み: 11/3/2015 10:21:47 PMI agree with most of what Dawkins says, but he can be a pompous ass about it at times. I don't believe in a god because I have yet to see or hear a convincing enough argument for one. When people ask me if I believe in god I feel like the only appropriate response I can give is... "Which one?" There have been thousands of versions of god throughout history and thousands have been dismissed as myth. Why shouldn't any of the current ones be dismissed as myth? The concept of god in general is small, and obviously human. I see no reason to assume that infallibility exists in that way. Perfection is subjective and defined differently by people. We just lump everything we don't understand into a single box labeled "god" as the reason for it. If only things were that simple. I don't believe because when you bring morality into it, as a concept god utterly falls apart. I point people to the Epicurean Paradox. Most people don't hold their own god to the creationist logic they spout as their defense for said god. Their god conveniently just is and always was because when you ask where it came from what else can they say? God just becomes another question in that instant. The suspension of logic and reason is too great. I think the notion of god exists because of our natural fear of the unknown and until we can evolve beyond that enough that we don't cling to those kinds of beliefs, I don't expect much to change for us. We will still be sitting here thinking something else is watching out for and saving us when we should be doing that for ourselves.

1 返信Anti-semitism kinda really started the Holocaust. Science is debatable, I'd appreciate an elaboration on that so I can understand it better. On the note of the original topic of this post, I don't believe in God because a transcendent being of unfathomable power is, well, unfathomable. I see no logical reason to believe, therefore I do not believe.
