Regardless these decisions are seriously affecting the way they do business and the more they mess up, the more damage control they will require. Thier customers don't trust them and that is not a good sign. You could have all the money in the world but without consumers you are killing yourself. Even if we don't see it at this very moment, you will eventually. That goes without saying Sony has problems as well but they will rebound as would Microsoft if faced with the same mistakes like sony vaio and sony bravio tvs. Give it a couple of years you'll see.
The articles that you posted are a little dated. If you've actually been keeping track of how the Windows phone has been doing on the market, you'd see that it is slowly but surely starting to pick up. Especially with the last update (8.1), where the new Cortana feature out performs Siri of iOS.

You're right that it's a matter of time, but who knows whether or not WPhones will turn out to be good competitors against iOS and Android. Awareness and interest seem to be picking up, and there are a lot of developers that are now making apps for WPhones.
