I'd like to start by saying that I'm a PS4 gamer. Over the many months of Destiny I've been joyous/proud of the fantastic advertising done on behalf of PlayStation for Destiny, highlighting not only the console's fantastic capabilities for Bungie's newest franchise, but also some pretty kick-ass exclusive content.
Console wars have been, and will be. As long as there is competition, there will be businesses and individuals taking proverbial arms against one another doing all they can to ensure the success of their chosen side. But are there limits that should be respected or certain boundaries enacted to keep things from going 'too far'? As much as I hate to say it, "yes, there should be". Now before I stray too far...
I recently learned that the reason there hasn't been any advertising from the Microsoft side of this battle is because they weren't allowed to. What about free speech, capitalism, free-market economies and the like? Nope. Activision isn't having any of that. Why? Because Sony bought exclusive rights.
And that's the part that bothers me. I like Sony, LOVE Bungie, respect Microsoft, and have been supporting Activision in some form or fashion for over 30 years. But since when should a publisher be able to restrict advertising of a product? Inappropriate or offensive advertising, sure. But a complete blackout 'or else'? Sorry Activision, you've gone too far this time.
I'm all for pre-order bonuses (Vanguard Armory), dealer exclusives (Red Sparrow), DLC (Frontier Ghost Skin), and collectible goodies (Ghost Edition), so long as everyone gets a chance to take part, speak their part, and -most importantly- choose.
I'm too far invested into Destiny to back out now. Plus, I'm fairly certain that Bungie had nothing to do with this limitation. But if this is how future multiplatform releases will be handled, then I'll be taking my business elsewhere. I still think PS4 is King, Bungie is Legend, and Destiny will be Epic. But let the products speak for themselves. Three of the four companies involved here come from a country that stands (and fights) for freedom of speech. Let's keep it that way.

2 通の返信yeah...not the first time this has happened, definately won't be the last. I've been a supporter of M:tG for years now. Hell, almost 20 years now that I think about it. I own 3 of the 4 Duels of the Planeswalkers on my ps3...and Microsoft bought console-exclusive rights for Magic 2015. Its a business practice. It's been going on for years. I'm glad though, that you did finally open your eyes.

3 通の返信Very good points. I'm tired of everyone saying "its just business". Health insurance companies deny life saving treatment everyday under that bullshit excuse.

As an XBoner, I appreciate the sentiment, but really its not really necessary. Although I've always been against ALL forms of exclusion, (to me its just silly. Everyone wants everything, and in most cases they're willing to PAY for everything, so why not let them?) I've learned that its going to happen, and continue to happen no matter what my thoughts on the matter are. Sure, I'm on the raw end of the deal this time, but I don't consider it a "punishment" or anything, its just that I, and the other XBoners are just unlucky this time around. Sony is making some pretty powerful moves out there, and its completely screwing over Microsoft supporters. These things happen I guess. They have been for a while now, and Sony isnt the only aggressors. But in the end, even if I had to put my ear to the ground for a week just to find out if XBone was getting digital special editions at all, or if I missed an extra week in the Beta, or if some exclusive content isn't available to me , as well as my console-brothers, I'm still getting the same experience, and no power plays by Sony or Activision can take that away from us now. We still get the same Game. The same preorder content. The same special edition content. And we get the game at the same time. As long as we get the same post release game balancing and there isnt any console favoritism with events, I don't think any lines have been crossed. I guess TL;DR I'm an XBone owner, and I'll see you starside, no matter how much coverage or extra content I was given.
What about free speech, capitalism, free-market economies and the like?
An exclusive advertising deal is very capitalist. It's Bungie's/Activision's product, let them do with it what they want.

The Xbox is in a weird position where anything it does will be scewed in the most negative light possible, so really this is good PR for Microsoft lol. But at the end of the day I just want to play games, and practices like this don't help us as consumers.

2 通の返信Apparently no one read that the OP is on the PS4 and is complaining that PS is holding exclusives. I don't really mind as long as I eventually get them as DLC (Cod has everything released first on Xbox but it still gets released to PS). I don't know why y'all are complaining and saying how the OP is a stupid MS fan boy (that is how I took the comments)

3 通の返信This whole Sony vs Microsoft thing is just as ridiculous as the South Park Black Friday Trilogy mocks it to be.

4 通の返信Before we lash out (already happening)... Maybe stop to think that the point he is raising is that it's wrong for mass Companies to monopolies products. ... yes more than Sony and Activision have done it.... but he's not wrong in saying that it's -blam!-ed up... we just happen to be in the context of destiny. .. relax he means well

I dont care anymore. These are gaming companies but they still have to do business. Bungie got me hooked on xbox, so Ill be playing Destiny on xbox. I wish, playstation and microsoft would stop acting like children and allow both platforms play with each other. And I think it bullshit that for those who pre ordered the ghost edition dont get exclusive game content.

You do realise Microsoft published that destiny fragrance ad, so people like you would write posts like you just have that paint Sony in a negative light for business. Congratulations. If you're a fan of mind control vote for Microsoft! I don't have any specific examples in mind but I'm pretty sure this is a common thing nowadays where advertising is heavily slanted towards one platform. Microsoft just wanted to cry a little because it's been more and more evident that Destiny is gonna be one of the big hitters of the year. Don't Microsoft have exclusive ad rights to COD year in year out? Don't see anybody complaining about how much of an outrage that should be, especially with that franchise being so lucrative...

3 通の返信Well Destiny is not available on PC. There's another mistake. I'm afraid it's called business and until laws are changed you can still buy advertising rights and such for certain products like Sony have with Destiny. It wasn't that long ago we had another another massive game being released and the hype was that of Destiny. Titanfall. Microsoft had paid for the entire game to be exclusive. The only reason I believe Titanfall didn't do so well, was because they had cut off the biggest selling next gen console and the PS3. They took that fat pay check and completely mugged off Sony. Maybe if they had release on multi platform they would have done better. Sony paid for exclusive rights and content, Microsoft should think themselves lucky they never paid for the entire game. Then there would be many sad Xbox fan boys crying, spitting their dummies out and asking poor old mum and dad for a PS4.

1 返信Why don't you create and launch an OS and call it Windows, you can argue all day and night about freedom of speech and free market economies with the lovely cuddly bastions of charity and virtue at Microsoft. Fanboy.

1 返信I'm sure this has already been said, but Xbox gets marketing rights to CoD. It's the exact same thing and has went on for a long time. Microsoft just drew attention to it with the fragrance thing, which was remarkably clever.

So it seems public manipulation is the core reason for Sony's successful sales of the Playstation 4. People think that certain games are exclusive to a console, when in reality, they're not. Microsoft isn't necessarily innocent of this either, but most of the time I see a "content first to" or some other similar disclaimer in their ads that shows that the specific game isn't really all exclusive to the console. Destiny and Watch Dogs ads, however, only advertised for the Playstation 4 console, with no pointers to its real exclusivity, or lack thereof. I still give props to Sony for figuring out such a trick though.

1 返信I'm realy finding it hard to say something other than "This is business and constitutional rights only exist against the government and its agencies, not private entities."

1 返信Sony bought the rights to advertise the game on their system, microsoft didn't. Where is all this anal pain coming from jesus christ

2 通の返信a) You don't know what free speech is. b)This is capitalism and free-market, Sony bought the right to keep Microsoft from advertising from Activision.

2 通の返信Free speech means that the government can't restrict your speech, privately owned businesses can do whatever they want, including purchasing exclusive rights to advertising.
