I'd like to start by saying that I'm a PS4 gamer. Over the many months of Destiny I've been joyous/proud of the fantastic advertising done on behalf of PlayStation for Destiny, highlighting not only the console's fantastic capabilities for Bungie's newest franchise, but also some pretty kick-ass exclusive content.
Console wars have been, and will be. As long as there is competition, there will be businesses and individuals taking proverbial arms against one another doing all they can to ensure the success of their chosen side. But are there limits that should be respected or certain boundaries enacted to keep things from going 'too far'? As much as I hate to say it, "yes, there should be". Now before I stray too far...
I recently learned that the reason there hasn't been any advertising from the Microsoft side of this battle is because they weren't allowed to. What about free speech, capitalism, free-market economies and the like? Nope. Activision isn't having any of that. Why? Because Sony bought exclusive rights.
And that's the part that bothers me. I like Sony, LOVE Bungie, respect Microsoft, and have been supporting Activision in some form or fashion for over 30 years. But since when should a publisher be able to restrict advertising of a product? Inappropriate or offensive advertising, sure. But a complete blackout 'or else'? Sorry Activision, you've gone too far this time.
I'm all for pre-order bonuses (Vanguard Armory), dealer exclusives (Red Sparrow), DLC (Frontier Ghost Skin), and collectible goodies (Ghost Edition), so long as everyone gets a chance to take part, speak their part, and -most importantly- choose.
I'm too far invested into Destiny to back out now. Plus, I'm fairly certain that Bungie had nothing to do with this limitation. But if this is how future multiplatform releases will be handled, then I'll be taking my business elsewhere. I still think PS4 is King, Bungie is Legend, and Destiny will be Epic. But let the products speak for themselves. Three of the four companies involved here come from a country that stands (and fights) for freedom of speech. Let's keep it that way.

2 通の返信Ultronにより編集済み: 9/6/2014 11:10:35 PMYou knew there will be Playstation exclusive content for Destiny since Sony Press Conference 2013... 2013 !!!!! http://youtu.be/DmoZAPDV3ew?t=2h15m41s It's not my fault that u pick the wrong console. Microsoft came in with their 1 game 1 console, Microsoft community declared war. Enjoy it ! PS / Nintendo / PC community don't give a damn about Microsoft Community and "The War"

So this isn't anything new with either company, and seems to be the trend that's here to stay. Microsoft does this with a lot of games, but in their defense, the marketing has never been so "in your face Sony, ya bastards!" this time, Sony seems to be going a little bit far with that, but its probably to make up for all the games they havent had timed exclusives for. Either way, the game is going to be good for both systems. If you were Microsoft, and your #1 money maker ditched your exclusive rights, to become timed exclusive for the competitor, you'd be a little upset to.

3 通の返信I would shake my finger as well but in sony's defense its an old game of exclusive nonsense that really started with cod between Microsoft and Activision. It sucks for gamers I think Microsoft tends to be worse about it just look at Tomb Raider

4 通の返信Are you stupid? Free Speech does not apply to a private business and are you not aware of the fact that Microsoft pioneered the whole exclusive rights to advertising? *cough* Call of Duty *cough*

68 通の返信Any online game works better on xbox one. Anyone who argues with this, are just ignorant to what dedicated servers do for competitive multiplayer. Sony knows this, so they say things like "destiny is better on playstation" without going in depth on just why that is. The timed exclusives and advertising rights aren't worth the $500,000,000 that Sony paid activision and bungie. Xbox one will make more profit this holiday season with it's three system bundles and it's Master mother $&@!? Chief Collection!!

4 通の返信I respect everything he said in this thread, but something just occurred to me. Why is it when you want to ramble on something against bungie or sony even activision, when your a playstation player it's totally ok but when you're a xbox player you are AUTOMATICALLY called a hater or called jealous prick that is just hating on the PS community. I'm a xbox player yet i totally respect PS players, I'm don't even partake in the so called "console wars". It's just ludscrise that it's just like that. Like WTF people don't Xbox players have a say in threads without being called hater etc... I know that there are actual bullshit xbox players that I find annoying but there are also some xbox players that are actually making a viable statement. So just please don't hang on to the xbox player stereotype, we aren't all like that. See you starside guardians. -Last Assassin64

It is a pretty sad state of affairs. But yeah, there has been casualties on either side. I wish for a time where they just made their consoles the best they can be and let the one people prefer win instead of going underhanded like that. It's not because it's how contract law works that it's right. But oh well, as mentioned. It's not worth arguing about. The two companies want war. They have it. Being an activist isn't going to stop this one... I'm happy to be a destiny player like you all, I don't care who plays where, how and what on. Spread the Geek love! :D

1 返信Don't be surprised by something that's been around before electricity. Competitors have done this before and will do this long after.

6 通の返信Dude, you're about to get major backlash. The majority of users on this forum love Sony and believe they can do no wrong.

1 返信Er... you know that capitalism thing you mentioned? If they were paid off or made agreements or signed contracts...well.... you know. It could've also been part of the agreement because it was going to be a Sony exclusive, but I don't know enough about it all to know the entire history of this game. Also, freedom of speech has nothing to do with this. It's all marketing, contracts, agreements, etc. Nothing to do with the constitution. It's business.

3 通の返信You do realize there are ads for Destiny on Xbox.com, right? Microsoft possibly made up the not allowed to advertise thing for publicity purposes.

Zo Bossにより編集済み: 9/7/2014 4:08:06 PMWell, this isn't entirely true... MS has been advertising Destiny for Xbox. It may not be as much as Sony has been dishing out. I jus think they are restricted to do certain advertising and/or making certain statements about the game.

OpethMan21rにより編集済み: 9/7/2014 4:43:56 PMBusiness practices like this go on all the time. Microsoft is the sole marketer of call of duty every year and I see no mention of any unfair practices sprout up. It's only coming up as an issue in this case, because Microsoft called them out on it through that cologne/perfume ad. At the end of the day, Destiny will be just as good on the Xbox One as it is on PS4. If there were any indications that this were not the case, there may have been something more sinister to talk about.

Except for two+ years now Bungie has cried Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, and PS3 from their rooftop. I simply have no sympathy for uninformed consumers. And neither should anyone else. If you're prepared to spend a middle class house/car payment on a gaming console and game, then your ability to be informed is no one else's responsibility.

Rocko により編集済み: 9/7/2014 8:17:15 AMoh come on, what are those moves called like? Black Tape Policies? they are a totally regular occurrence everywhere where enough money and/ or power is in play. and while the question about the morality in it is rather philosophic a question than obvious a branding, the Exclusive Platform Advertisment Rights Sales for specific Game Titles are really just a minor example for it... .

Has nothing to do with free speech. That only applies to the government being in a position if power, and not being allowed to prevent dissenting political opinions. Has nothing to do with free markets either. Besides it's in every companies' interest to be able to control advertising for their own product. Microsoft doesn't have the legal rights to advertise destiny. Activision owns that, and has deals with sony to let them advertise.

I can't say I'm upset. Any time a trailer ends for Destiny, on the bottom of the screen is clearly a XBOX ONE logo informing viewers that Destiny will be available for XBOX ONE. As for all the other extra stuff, I don't see how it matters, really. Those who have the XBOX ONE are gonna get Destiny on that console, and those who have Playstation 4 are gonna get Destiny on that console.

4 通の返信So you mean to say that only one country should control everything because it is the only land in the world to have freedom of speech, the rest of the world should suck it up and follow its lead coz it gives power to the people by Capitalism and a Company who is known to be ruthless to exploit the pc owners in every imaginable way gets a strong hold on console gamers now because they are so giving and god forbid original in what they do like always.

4 通の返信I stopped reading when he said activision had been around for 30 years. It made me sad.
