All too often, I have come across male players masquerading as females in video games. This obviously creates a lot of tension for the normal players representing their own gender; they are never certain just who they are interacting with, and may unintentionally flirt with other male gamers. I for one, am sick of this. Prior to character customization, should Destiny check the gender you have associated with your PSN/LIVE account so that your registered gender is the only one available to you? I feel this would help to more accurately portray the consumer population, and prevent a lot of awkward encounters. Thank you for your input.
Hook, line, and sinker.
4 通の返信No, people should be able to be whoever they want to in a game. Thats like saying you cant be an exo or awoken because you're not one in real life. Gaming is a way for people to be someone they're not and thats the beauty of it all. So there is nothing wrong with a male using a female character and a female using a male character. I myself am a male but almost always use female characters.

1 返信No, too often female gamers get hounded by idiots when they are trying to play a computer game. Computer games are not dating sites. Some people prefer to play as the opposite gender and trying to limit their ability to do so just because someone wants to flirt in a computer game is idiotic.

2 通の返信Mysticalにより編集済み: 8/19/2014 8:45:43 PMxbox live isn't a dating service. People can play as whatever they want. If someone is dumb enough to think pixels on a screen = actual representation of someone in real life they are foolish.

6 通の返信No, they shouldn't. If you pay for the game, you deserve to play as whatever gender you feel like playing. To quote Max Payne:
Say what you want about Americans, but we understand Capitalism. You pay for a product, and you get what you pay for.
I pay for a game that lets me be a badass space warrior of my own creation, then I'm gonna make it what I want to be.
Inb4 this was not an angry post. It was a serious response, even if it was a response to a joke post.
what do you mean by "awkward encounters"?? do you mean you try to hit on a digital, fictional, female characters? i dont know about you but all i see is a character playing a game. i couldn't care less if that character is female or male, all i care about is if im teamed up with that character, they better be able to play the game. especially in this game with the strikes and the raid. if a female fictional, digital character bothers you that much, you need to seek help and maybe find a girl friend in the real world. That way you wont have any "awkward encounters" with a FICTIONAL female character in a video game....smdh

5 通の返信None of the interactions that this game intends to initiate are interactions which are dependent on gender. What I mean by this is when you go on a raid, play PvP, set up a fireteam, etc. The focus is on accomplishing the goal at hand, be it finishing the raid, winning the match, etc. If you choose to interact with others outside of those parameters, you then assume responsibility for the outcome. So, if you end up flirting with a man, it is because this game was not designed to be a platform for flirting, matchmaking or dating. It consequently lacks the features such as gender identification, which would facilitate that purpose. It is possible that through gaming, you could meet someone with whom you become attracted to and pursue romantically, but that is not a feature that the game supports. Services which are intended for the purpose of matchmaking go out of their way to provide statistics of users in order to facilitate dating and romantic connection. They do not facilitate the trading of gamertags/PSN ID's in order to complete raids. If you decide to initiate flirting or romantic pursuit of someone based solely on the fact that a video game character within their control is a female or male, in a context which is not intended for such use in the first place, any embarrassment or awkwardness that results is solely your responsibility.

1 返信"This obviously creates a lot of tension for the normal players representing their own gender" There is absolutely nothing 'normal' about you. "unintentionally flirt with other male gamers" .....You need help.

1 返信OP has a wicked sense of humour. Here's the thing, whilst at Gamescon, a certain community manager (after one too many drinks), indicated that since the beta, your ghost has had an upgrade. Said upgrade works as such. When you start the game for the first time, the ghost goes around looking at all the skeletons, goes a little loopy as he's bored of doing this menial task, and decides on mix and match.
As such all future guardians will be female on the left side, and male on the right side.
SquigPeelにより編集済み: 8/19/2014 8:18:14 PMYou should be able to play as who you want. I had 1 male and 2 female characters in the beta, but I didn't pretend to be a chick. You would be retarded to flirt with a virtual girl, thinking theres no way its a guy playing as her. Its most likely a guy playing as her to be honest. I had 2 female characters because I was bored of being some big buff badass guy in all video games. It's boring. And my male was an exo. Male humans are too mainstream. And female gamers would be totally harassed by people like you because everybody would know they're a girl

you wanna play as a girl or guy; it should be your choice, not something the developer chooses for you. also if you immediately see a female avatar and start flirting with them(whether they're a guy or girl) you're kind of a pig, and part of the reason why male gamers get a bad rep for being sexist A-holes.

This, I feel, is a rather interesting question, with many points of view to consider and no easy answer. Personally I would say no. Simply because it's a game, it's my recreational pass time and I want to play my way, if I want a sexy feminine Titan or a Masculine Hunter that's my choice abd I personally wouldn't want it restricting. Not that implementing this would affect me as my main char will be male. Maybe I have subconscious homosexual tendencies, but I would rather deny that and say it's all about my immersion and connection to my character. My main char will be a.reflect of an idyllic me and for me that's a male avatar. Though I wonder how the female populous would feel about this restriction. Perhaps they're the same as me, unbothered because they would like a character that embodies a perfect them. Or maybe they would rather choose a male avatar to avoid unwanted attention that this change would innevitably bring. I don't know of any game that forces this choice on someone but maybe one should be made as an experiment. FOR SCIENCE!

1 返信What? No. Wait is this a real problem? Weird man, weird. Play how you want, any other way is dumb.

The only thing I dont understand is boys that will pick a female character & pretend to be a girl irl o.O just really odd. Encountered this 3 times online & I know its going to happen on destiny... So awkward thinking im talking to a fellow girl then catch "him" on a mistake (°□°)
