Things like Halo vs Mass Effect/Dead Space/what-have-you are so general, and it always ends with "Precursors roflstomp everything." Which is true. But I say narrow the competition so that we can get more varied answers and to make these threads suck less.
So, if pitted against each other, and with no third-party interference, which side would be left standing: the Covenant at the height of their power, or the Necromorphs?

3 通の返信Necromorphs would shrek the Covies so fast, it wouldn't be fair. It would be a slaughter.

2 通の返信The Covenant would have a hard won victory if they simply reject Markers as blasphemous technology. That would slow down the Necromorphs immensely, as the production of Red Markers is necessary to initiate a Convergence Event. I'd also suspect Slipspace will be a great asset to them, as it can help prevent mind control by simply removing the ship and crew from normal space.
Necromorphs can very easily gain the upper hand on ground fights. The Covenant has space on their side, though.
10 通の返信To this date actually, the Necromorphs haven't been stopped. There was a race that was able to slow their advance across the galaxy, but they only delayed them. They didn't even manage to wipe them out of the galaxy int he first place. A lot of Dead Space's weaponry is on par with Covenant technology, as in both are plasma based in some instances and Humanity has a solid understanding of gravitational technology, these two things both of which are what give the Covenant such a huge edge. And as you can see, that hasn't worked out very good so far for the majority of Humanity in the DS series. The Covenant would get utterly ass stomped. The Necromorphs greatest assets in terms of physical strength is the species they control. They use all physical assets to their utmost potential and even do more than that by fusing bodies together. Imagine the structures and forms they would make of infected Elites or Brutes, and the strength they'd have. We're talking two species that are both incredibly strong when compared to Humans, and extremely resilient. Every Necromorph we've ever seen was Human based for the most part, and they were bad enough as it is. The Covenant would get ROFL STOMPED. And that's not even accounting for the Markers.

I haven't finished Dead Space 3, but I'm going to say Covenant. Necromorphs might win on the ground, they might not, but they'd never make orbit. The Covenant would suffer massive losses, but eventually the covenant would win. High Charity being a mobile planet would essentially win it. Surround it with a massive fleet, and just go from place to place glassing them.
