The week the Beta starts, I'm driving to Boston. I don't want to miss out, so I plan on playing my PS4 in the car while we drive.
My car won't support a PS4's power needs for more than 10 minutes. If the drive is say, 8 hours, what size battery would I need to sufficiently sustain online play for that amount of time? Price isn't an issue.
If you could recommend a wifi USB for the drive, that would helpful as well.

The Beta is this weekend? Oh...I'll be out of town too. Doesn't really matter though, because 1) I didn't preorder, 2) I already played the Alpha, and 3) I can just watch footage of it online afterwards.

Myselfにより編集済み: 6/26/2014 3:57:08 PMThe PS4 uses about 137 watts per hour during gameplay according to this. That would be 1096 watts over 8 hours. DC to AC converters are under 100$, so you could get that. For wifi, If you have an iPhone, you can jailbreak it and get an app to share the 3g/4g connection with a laptop(that has an 8 hour battery) via the charger, and connect the laptop to the PS4 with an Ethernet cable. It would be technically possible, but would most likely require a van for a battery that big, and would be expensive and time consuming to set up(as in $1000+, and at least an hour), not to mention you would have a huge data usage bill on your phone. I have looked into this before, lol. Edit: You would need a bigger battery to power the screen.

ABotelhoにより編集済み: 6/26/2014 3:49:10 PMYou would need a 3G/4G data stick and pay out the ass; that's if the data stick is even compatible, which it probably isn't. You'll probably need a portable wifi hotspot. Not only that, but your latency will be VERY high, and will probably make ur gaming experience and the experience of others awful. Then you'll need one hell of a battery, nothing you can actually obtain. My PC's backup battery can sustain it and a very small display for 10 minutes. This isn't feasible.

Here's an idea. Pack it up and play it when you get there. The beta goes on for longer than 8 hours. You aren't missing anything.

Orionにより編集済み: 6/25/2014 9:39:15 PMWay too much trouble for something so little and insignificant. And I very much doubt you could even maintain an internet connection throughout the most part of 8 hours travelling in a car. Jesus man just wait. It's sad that you're even considering this.

seminude sheepにより編集済み: 6/25/2014 9:34:51 PMYou are asking the wrong question, "how big of an alternator do I need" is what you should ask Or just get a large vehicle with a tv installed, I used to play the xbox in my Montana.

There is a reason consoles are plugged into mains. I believe the PS4 uses 150W when gaming. Over 8 hours that is a total of 1200W. And no battery could provide such a large amount of energy. If it could, it would be huge.
Pls don't tell me I can't into physics. I hope I worked this out correctly.
Rothnihaliasにより編集済み: 6/25/2014 8:51:38 PMI have no idea but that is an excellent question. What is your setup for the display? My guess is that you might need multiple batteries.
