Dear Bungie,
The reason to why I'm writing this is because I care, and because reading feedback from different websites just about every day about Destiny, bothers me. Why does it bother me you ask? Well it's pretty simple, it's because noone of those who comment, knows anything. And whatever little piece of news they're currently commenting on, most of them get the wrong idea from what they're seeing, as compared to what's actually being shown.
So why is this? It's very simple, it's bad communication from you guys. Your current ad campaign looks strikingly similar to any other MMORPG's ad campaign ever. I mean, you show some footage of some people running through different areas, taking out packs of enemies, encountering small bosses, getting some cool loot, doing "dungeons", customizing their character, engaging in public events, mounting up etc etc. But at the same time, you're telling everyone that this is NOT an MMORPG, without specifying why in a single answer.
Then it's the other kind of people, who do not percieve your game as an MMORPG, and who cannot at all see how this is any different from say Borderlands, Skyrim, Fallout etc. Especially now thay they've seen the things that I won't mention here but that I'm pretty sure you're quite aware of Pre-E3.
So, what's the solution to this? It's fairly simple, you've done it before. That video is an almost perfect example. It may not have showcased EVERYTHING in the game, but it's enough, it showed what was new and why I'd want to get the damn game.
I beg of you to do just about the same thing with Destiny. Make a video showcasing all its features, its modes and all that needs to be said, so you'll have it all in one place and so that people know what they're actually buying without having to check twenty different websites. If you do this before the beta launches, I'm sure that you will draw a much larger crowd much faster, and people will know what to hype about.
Sincerely, FreakyIdiota.
EDIT: Bungie has now reached out to clarify after the alpha leaks caused confusion among people.
Story missions: soloable activities (you can still play them in groups of up to 3!), often with ties to the main story arc of Destiny (the campaign). These activities appear at various Levels (numerical, relative to the player) and choosing a higher level (relative to you) means you're opting in for some additional challenge.
Strikes: 3 player activities, with bosses and loot at the end. Their goal is a highly replayable activity that will - at higher levels - lead you into the loot game.
Explore: cruise around the surface of a planet in Fireteams of up to 3, taking odd jobs and tasks for the City. You can find minerals and resources out in the world that you'll have some use for as you find weapons in Destiny that you want to stick with. This is a lower intensity activity
Raids: 6 player, cooperative required, communication required gameplay. High challenge. We haven't talked much about this yet and I'm not going start that conversation here on NeoGAF
Multiplayer: This is for the "shoot other players" mood.

We've structured Destiny's world to have places where you will probably intersect with other players, and places where you won't. We're not going to have players drop into the climax of a mission, but the common landing zones for a given planet? That seems like a great place to see other players running amok in the world.
EDIT: Regardless of what activity you're playing (PVP aside), you'll see players on their own activities, i.e., players beginning a Strike might see a guy collecting Relic Iron on Mars, and a Public Event begins and suddenly everyone is distracted to take down a key Cabal target for a chance at powerful gear and materials to upgrade your best weapons and armor.
A bunch of folks are playing the Alpha now and we're already seeing all kinds of opportunities for places to improve Destiny. I have no doubt that in the Public Beta, we will learn even more from your feedback and experiences.
You can't really fight people taking unreasonable expectations too far, particularly when Bungie being coy with putting out concise information of this game throughout its development is part of the reason why there is too much hype for Destiny and lingering confusion as to whether or not its more Halo MMO or Borderlands. There will be backlash and disappointment, but with the public Beta and a lot of open disclosure about the facts of the game, Destiny can be saved from suffering the fate of Titanfall by focusing on what it can become now instead of promising the moon and stars from this franchise in 10 years.

3 通の返信Agree ... most outside of this forum still think it is a MMO (the World-Of-Halo tag has stuck). And when these people load the game up there is going to be disappointment - not in the game itself, but that it didn't live up to their expectations. Some will say "who cares", but their voices will carry. But its too late now - only up side is that you can point here and say you tried.

3 通の返信Marketing aside, I'm getting it either way. I'm not really bothered by it at all. That kind of stuff is their job, mine is to just have fun.

2 通の返信Solid points man. They've held out this long to have a stronger impact at e3 as well as other reasons...which is hard to understand Since you would think information would help sell pre orders....even still though...pre orders are pretty packed. I sure hope they pack a punch. Cause lots of people still can't perceive Destiny. To much chaos around the internet of claims of what it is, and mostly claims from bungie of what it isn't. So tomorrow, we will finally get shown more evidence on what it is in their words and actions. We need details and descriptions tied to game play . Not randomized gameplay without a context. Excited for it. I still believe that for a person to really understand why the experience is said to be so great, is for a hands on experience from scratch. Not borrowing someone's character, Not watching someone else play. Creating, growing, and experiencing it for yourself. To tell your tale of how you went from 1to30+, and how you made your mark in that world.

1 返信Cojo2176により編集済み: 6/8/2014 11:21:12 PMI agree there's not all that much info out there, but this is planned as a game with real legs that is going to last a long time. Not a flash in the pan game soon to be forgotten. Edit: so they don't have to have everything shown off super early. It's gonna be a game where people keep buying it as they hear about it.

2 通の返信I have a theory about this sort of thing. Destiny was originally slated for release in Spring 2014. However, it got pushed back a ton, all the way to September. This was announced in December. I would guess that DeeJ and the others responsible for giving out information and interviews and whatnot only heard about this a bit before we did, not a long time. But, the Activision Overlords didn't want to let too much out about the game, for marketing reasons. So, now we have DeeJ and his team, planning on releasing material enough for 3-5 months, no have to release stuff for a ten-month spread. That's why there was a much higher density of stuff earlier--they couldn't plan for the delays. That's why there's been so little. If you imagine the stuff we've gotten in a third as long as time, it makes more sense.

1 返信They'll probably release a s imiliar video at E3. They've already said they want to blow this thing open. That's just my guess though. Honestly I would love a new video but a Beta date would be ok too.

1 返信I think they are doing it on purpose. And it is working, people are talking about the game, positive or not, people are talking about it. The thing is, most everyone has the same information and that is not enough to judge if the game will be bad or as awesome as we all hope it will be! This week I think there will be so much new stuff released and especially in the next month or so the ads will start coming and the PR will explode.
