You suck.
Seriously. Johnny Lee, on his own, came up with this technology using a freaking Wii and a laptop SEVEN freaking years ago.
You hired him, I believe into your Kinect division, and what happened? Not a single goddamned thing. Seven years, a talented and passionate man, with great ideas, who was able to effectively kit-bash off-the-shelf and existing technology years ago to give gamers an "effectively 3D experience with existing 2D hardware" and you produced.... jack shit.
The Kinect (I know, I know, it's now become a joke), but it could have EASILY detected the position of a single-players head in the room in relation to their flat-screen television and then used those 3D coordinates to change EVERY game's "player camera" POV to be the gamer's head position. With that function enabled (or easily disabled) the 360 and now the Xbox One would have been more than capable of providing gamers with the ability to slightly shift their head (while seated) to get additional and more immersive visuals from hardware they already had. If they chose to get up from their seat while still holding their controller? Even MORE of the effect.
You could have prevented the Kinect from being a sad and bad joke and made it exciting with just that ONE feature.
Son, I am more than dissapoint.
I know, I know.... #gaming. But this is (IMO) more about corporate mismanagement and a lack of vision. Not about games, but about something that could have made a LOT of things far more appealing without having to buy anything new or expensive.
Pisses me off actually.

Gamers want VR*, they don't want what comes between 2D and VR (i.e. the Kinect). It's that simple. Gamers also want that technology for cheap. So either the company developing the technology has to lose a lot of money selling it, or they have to make sacrifices in other areas so that they don't lose as much money. *Or at least they say they do.

That's ironic ... a bungie forum mod complaining about a product being released late and lacking features originally promised. And wasn't it bungie who tried to get everyone hyped abut their new game being "multi-threaded"? (it wasn't even NEW 20 years ago ... it what way is it NEW now??) But I guess it is Microsoft ... and the loss of Halo must still be burning deep :(

Legend To Noneにより編集済み: 5/18/2014 1:17:58 AMWell, they most likely don't want to release it into console until they know it will work perfect for online shooters. If they release this feature too early then it's going to be another kinect app that no one would care about much in the future.

I actually could have gone to Carnegie Mellon. Makes sense that stuff like this would be coming out of there, so it's no surprise that this guy was smart enough to figure this out. Seven years, and nothing like this has made it to the store shelf in any form, though? I agree, that's pretty freaking stupid.

Spent most of the day today installing MS office on my mums new laptop and failed several times, tried everything. Every thing. Followed all of Microsoft's instructions and recommendations only to find out that MS was wrong to recommend installing the 32 bit version because the 64 bit didnt work as well with 3rd party add ons. I've had enough of Microsoft's bullshet. #demfeels

6 通の返信The funny things is they want us to buy a console which is exactly the same as the 360 for a whopping 500/400 or so dollars. Whatever the price is. All they do is tack on a few gimmicks and the failed "cloud" bullshit. They could have made something revolutionary. But no, we get a shitty piece of hardware (PS4 included, what a joke) which still doesn't do too much more than my Sega Dreamcast. And the people to blame for all of this? The consumers who hand over half a thousand dollars for a slightly better version of what we had 10 years ago.

MajorCrabsにより編集済み: 5/17/2014 10:34:33 PMYea I remember this and thought, "OMG why isn't Nintendo paying this man money." I would imagine it isn't as simple as "let develop this and games will come to us." Though this would have made the kinect pretty cool to use and added some pretty awesome game mechanics. Oh well.\ EDIT: I would also like to add that with the seemingly close arrival of VR headsets it would be in M$ best interest to develop something like this. It would be a cost effective way for them to build on technology already used and it probably would bring in customers who don't want to spend money on a console plus headset.

2 通の返信Unisaur 64により編集済み: 5/17/2014 10:33:32 PMThe key difference here is that while this used head-mounted sensors, the Kinect does not. How much processing power would this consume ? Would it still be possible to use this online, for example, in FPS multiplayer, or would it be too taxing ? I know that there could be other applications of this in genres other than FPS, but how would it work in FPSes ? Would you continue to control the direction you're looking with the analogue sticks, while being able to control your view like the shooting gallery program ? Would that be too disorienting ?

12 通の返信I think part of the problem was that both devs and consumers didn't want to give it a chance. Not surprising though considering console gamers passed up the chance to have a steam like service on consoles.

NaLoにより編集済み: 5/17/2014 10:30:16 PMTrackIR has been available for PC for quite some time now. It's very useful for flight sims like War Thunder. Funnily enough a lot of people use the PS EYE webcam to get cheap head tracking with or without IR LEDs, and FaceTrackNoIR software (which is free). FaceTrackNoIR works in a lot of games actually, mostly flight and racing sims but also Arma and DayZ. If Destiny ever comes to PC then I hope that Bungie will support this sort of software.

Um, Xbox One thus far? It's complete BS that it was even released in a pre-beta state THAT IT IS STILL IN. Stupid, giant, half shiny, half dull paper weight is all mine, until they update the software to be as good as the 360 IS. I am hopeful that Destiny integrates with it better than Ghosts did, and that they make it do what they promised it would by then.

16 通の返信Vicexにより編集済み: 5/17/2014 9:21:34 PMHow much do you expect Microsoft to invest in a product that people are reluctant to use? Microsoft tried to make the Kinect mandatory so that developers would be able to utilise it and invest in the technology without fear of it only being used by the minority that actually use it and therefore waste valuable resources.... and gamers resisted the move. This isn’t Microsoft’s fault... this is the fault of gamers being resistant to change (despite simultaneous bitching about lack of change). Simply put... there is too much risk until gamers stop acting like children and be open to new things.
