Armor durability was the dumbest idea ever invented in video games. It serves as nothing but a money/time sink.

Bullshit. If you really wanted to makes it realistic, when you give your armor to the smith, it should take him days/weeks to repair and polish it. Then, it should cost you an arm and a leg for his fee.
If it's not implemented like the above, then it's nothing but a sink that hinders my play.

Its supose to be a money sink to keep the money economy in multiplayer games where they want it. I heard they have an game economy specialist at bungie to ensure money stays valuable.
