If humans were immortal...

1 返信The advent of things like this, along with AI's, and even mechanized body parts and prosthetics leaves me sad. We're not ready for such things, and although in most cases there a good intentions behind them, there's hundreds of thousands of asshats waiting in the shadows. When we learn to break free of our self inflicted violence, stupidity, and greed, then we should have stuff like this. But is it stands now all this would achieve would be giving more power to those with power, allowing them to abuse it, like they already do.

Nanobots will definitely be a near future thing that will be soon. And artificial organs too, those will all be relatively soon for us. Immortal? I don't believe so. Making us live A LOT longer? Of course.

Immortality is the only real way that humans can become a space faring species, many people say "I don't want to live forever" or "We don't have the outsources to do that with the growing population" as far as I am concerned these people are missing the point.

8 通の返信Being ageless is not immortality. You can still die, and machines have malfunctions all the time. The Nanobots would likely draw power from our own electric current, or we would need to "plug in" when we sleep. Machines, even small ones will have wear and tear, and will require regular repairs and check ups. And there may come a point where our bodies age faster than the nanobots can repair. Also you're antibodies might not like having these "invaders" present in your body. You will either have to completely replace the immune system, or fool it somehow. No machine is perfect, for it is made by imperfect beings, Nanobots will also cause deaths.

Eventually people just can't afford to keep fixing them. Though this thought process is flawed in itself. We're not hard wired to keep our transportation running. We ARE hard wired to survive at all costs, which includes repairing our bodies. The more likely alternative is my idea for a machine "judge" which presides over a sudo-afterlife. In this system, the judge would analyze the events of your life, your personality, what choices you've made, what benefits you've given to mankind; it would then determine if you led a productive or detrimental life for society and if the former, it would create an ai imprinted with your mind/memories/etc. This mind would then be uploaded to "The network" a virtual reality world where you can continue to live forever as a computer program. Your relatives could even visit you through a vr interface. Those who drastically changed the world for the better could even contribute via remote robot bodies, allowing them to continue their scientific research, for example. So essentially, it's like religion. Only there is no arguing if any of it exists or not. And there's no "grampa is up there watching over you". Instead it's "grampa made it onto the network. We'll visit him tomorrow and you'll feel better."

1 返信I doubt that there really is such a thing as truly being immortal but if that comes up in the next 20 years then I'll be very glad to sign up for it.

1 返信It will take quite a few more years to achieve sheerly because poor people will have a harder time trying to even afford any of that. Especially in 3rd world countries and places like America.

5 通の返信Listen here guys, I understand I am the most awesome person on the flood but sending me messages asking for sex? That's a little too far, I expected better etiquette from the flood. I mean seriously if you cannot control your urges please take it out on someone else not me. I have no sexuality and am not attracted to any of you. Your dreams of sexual relations of me will never come true. Thank you for reading, hope this cleared things up a little.
