How to know if society thinks for you
So in my college sociology class, we were talking about how people perceive things, according to societies standards. It was not many years ago when society thought that women should stay home and be moms. Other examples include how things get popular, and why we perceive "cuss words" as bad.
I'm going to focus on things that society says is "popular". If you have do several of these things, society may think for you, and you may not be as free-thinking as you thought.
Society may think for you if:
-You started wearing converse shoes when everyone else did, even though you have never wanted a pair before
-You where instantly excited for the hunger games movie even though you have never even heard of the book
-Jennifer Lawrence is your favorite actor right now. Even though you have never heard of her until the hunger games
-You ever want through a phase where you said "legit", "epic", "yolo", "turntup", or "swag" in a serious tone
-You wear snapbacks as hats for "swag"
-You leave the sticker on your hat when you buy it for "swag"
-You jumped in the skinny jean train
-You drive a crappy car but since you put rims and a loud muffler on it, you think it instantly looks better
-You took/take "cliques" in highschool seriously
-You used to listen to Nickleback, but now hate them like everyone else does
-You used to play COD, but quit because people hate it
-You thought Nicolas Cage was a good actor until people started hating him
-You think it's cool to drink underage
-You brag about being drunk
-You brag about being high
-You instantly bought "Radioactive" and played it none stop on the radio after hearing it

It came out around the same time as Halo 3, and I realized and was bothered by the fact that the only reason COD was competing for my attention was the manipulative addictive reward system, not the gameplay itself. I stuck around through MW2 though (well, I skipped WaW), as my friends didn't feel the same way. After MW2 the majority of the people I liked to play with left the series, so I stopped buying them.

It's not that hard to see if society thinks for you or not... Do you tend to only start liking popular things? If so, it does. There's nothing inherently wrong with that though. Whatever gets you happily through life is what you should stick to.

1 返信I don't think I've bought a song in years. Spotify is too legit to quit. I got Radioactive for free. You don't have enough YOLO for all this swag. My swag is supersaturated, so I drink Jack to dilute it. Just like I took off my muffler so I could drown out all the haters #turntup. But don't talk shit about Nick Cage. He's a terrific actor. He just picks bad movies.

The only one that is moderately close to applying to me is the one about Nicholas Cage, I used to like his films a lot but after the merciless pisstaking he goes through on the internet some of it has rubbed off on me. Stuff like 'Not the Bees' and 'You don't say', they all start to add up.

I wore skinny jeans because...well, I went through a phase in my life where I enjoyed being feminine, and I wanted pants that showed off what little ass I had. (Shut up, all of you. -_-) And I don't think drinking underage is "cool", but I do think the drinking age should be lowered back to eighteen. Just pointing out what ones "sort of" related to me. The rest of them i've never done. :P

I bought Radioactive after hearing the AC trailer and liking it, so not sure if [i]that[/i] counts. Other than that, I have not done any of them. I didn't even know my shoes were converse until after I got home. I just bought them because I needed new trainers and well... They looked cool.
