Microsoft were on a roll in terms of selling consoles, there were the few annoyances but most of those are being addressed in a patch. Not this problem. Machinima are offering their content creators an extra $3 CPM if they do a video playing an Xbox One game and say only good things about it. From what I understand, THIS IS ILLEGAL.
If this were to be taken to court, Microsoft would probably come out with a slap on the wrist but what about Machinima, they would be destroyed, financially and their reputation will be completely shot. Also, there are tons of Content creators who are no longer happy with their arrangement but they can't get out. Did Microsoft or Machinima really think these people would keep their mouth shut because of an extra $3 in CPM.
Yes it is good Microsoft are acknowledging youtubers for their potential and not just shutting it down due to old copyright laws but they are going the wrong way about this. It is essentially bribing youtubers to promote games that are bad in a false light.

I have no problem with this or the reports that ea has a similar deal($10p 1k *dont have the source handy) in place. Cash for comment is common practice in the entertainment word... and lets face it youtubers are entertainers not journalists. However if a reputable source like Game Informer was paid for favourable comments on an affiliated channel that would be concerning. IMO if the youtuber is taking this money and not disclosing it they are the ones that are deceiving you.

3 通の返信I fail to see how this is illegal? Sounds like Microsoft's marketing team is paying YouTubers to promote their console. This is the same crap every other company does with promoting their services (normally seen through a celebrity spokesperson).

BasedLoveにより編集済み: 1/23/2014 12:56:26 AMI don't mind this at all. This looks like it could help a lot of small YouTubers get ahead, with this money. I'm glad there are going to be more positive videos coming. And frankly I don't watch YouTubers who constantly bitch about MS. Its very childish, and I would pay them to just shut the hell up if I could. Also this isn't blind consumerism. There really isn't even anything wrong with this MS/Machinima deal. It makes sense for MS, Machinima, YouTubers and viewers. The blind consumers are the ones who listen to whatever people like that fat punk Angry Joe says, and immediately jump on the PS4 bandwagon without thinking for themselves.

Today in my Game Informer there is a 4 page ad for bravely default. At first I thought it was a review. It was written in review format. I checked all four pages and it does not say it is an advertisement. Should I now be upset with Nintendo for misleading me? Thankfully God graced me with free will and my parents taught me to think for myself. If you base your decisions on the opinions of a web site you should have your head examined.

6 通の返信I never thought I would say this, but I hope there is some super rich playstation fanboy out there with the power to sue Microsoft for this.

4 通の返信This has been going on for a long time, way before the new consoles were even announced. A shit ton of companies do this, this is old news. Its just a new flame to keep the Microsoft bashing fire alive. Sony does this, apple does this, google does this.....the list goes on and on. My point is no product in history has ever been perfect, everything has flaws of some sort. While I don't agree with these practices, it is common place for companies to pay people to give biased feed back on products. Open you're eyes people.

Cheesyにより編集済み: 1/22/2014 6:00:22 AMTotalbiscuit has got a fantastic commentary on this. It's unfortunate MS went this far. The fact that they're making unethical business practices and they're breaking the law with not disclosing the info is quite disappointing.

2 通の返信So DarksydePhil commented on the situation and even though he is a machinima partner he has a reputation for calling out bullshit. Because of the volume of videos he uploads it would have been a hassle for him to participate in this and there was a cap on how much could be earned which was $3750, over all videos linked with this promotion. This sounds like a promotion for lesser know youtubers to earn cash and they could register videos for this promotion they've already uploaded. If the part where they are not allowed to disclose that they are earning extra cpm is true in exchange for positve comments on xbox one and it's games is true then that is the illegal part, which some people are too stupid to accept, you must be a fanboy if you don't accept that because that is fact. I have nothing against content creators advertising products in their video, they are trying to make a living doing what they enjoy and it is a good way to get money.

1 返信
but what about Machinima, they would be destroyed, financially and their reputation will be completely shot
I lost respect for them a long time ago. They could become ruin and I wouldn't bat an eye. As for Microsoft's attempt at what is REAL paid shilling, I don't quite understand what's legally wrong of it. Is it morally wrong? Most certainly, yes, and nobody should be surprised since it's Microsoft. However, why should they be limited in their forms of positive marketing for their console? People simply need to keep these new guidelines in mind when watching positive Microsoft/Xbox content on the internet from now on. I'm glad this is gaining publicity, but saying that this is or should be completely illegal is taking it too far.

1 返信This is not illegal, idiot. In the terms and services it blatantly stated what the Youtubers would need to do in order to make the extra money, they could either choose to not do it, or go ahead and agree to the terms and services and do what they say. They were never forced to do anything, it was their choice.
