So, I recently completed another playthrough of Mass Effects 1-3. During that my time playing ME3 I decided to try and think of a way to beat the reapers conventionally. I couldn't think of anything, until I came across the (what I thought) obvious solution of using EMPs against them. Though that obviously wouldn't work since they'd have some defense against the most obvious way to kill them. I mean they wouldn't pin their entire survival on the chance that each civilization they harvest doesn't have EMPs, right?...Right?
When I got to the ending I went for the destroy ending. As we all know the destroy ending wipes out all reapers, synthetics, technology, etc. Now, as I watched husks and reapers fall over and slump into giant paper weights. I realized something, not only were thousands of people dying when the Reapers fell on top of them, the destroy option is also just a giant EMP. Since the Reapers all died by it, that shows that they don't have any defense against EMPs.
So, basically the Reapers were going on the trust system here. Their entire existence hinged on whether or not a civilization had a use for EMPs or not...Well, obviously this was an effective method since they harvested millions of civilizations without any of them using an EMP.
Now, I'd like to know why nobody came up with the idea to try and use this against the Reapers. Now, even if you thought the Reapers would have a defense against it, it still seems like something worth trying. However, no EMPs are ever seen or mentioned in Mass Effect. So what I can gather is that nobody can find a use for what seems to be the most powerful weapon in the galaxy, especially since nobody can come up with a defense against it.
Now, the stupidity of every sentient being in the galaxy aside, this still proves that Reapers can be beaten conventionally. The crucible, the driving force for ME3's story, was based on the fact that Reapers can't be beaten conventionally. Well, now we know they can, which makes the crucible pointless which in turn makes all of ME3's storyline pointless too. Don't get me wrong I still love ME3 (even with all it's flaws) I just thought of this and thought it was funny/interesting.
I don't know, what do you guys think? Am I wrong about the whole EMP thing? Or am I just thinking too far into this and I should just leave it alone?

1 返信I don't think it actually is an EMP. If it was, then the galaxy would be screwed as everything electronic shut down. I think it targets whatever code "makes" something reaper. Like the IFF tag, perhaps. Reapers: gone. Husks: gone. EDI (a construct built with reaper code for hacking purposes, IIRC): gone. The Geth (who can only still be there if you saved them by letting them integrate reaper code and gain sentience): gone. But let's be honest, the whole ending was nonsensical

1 返信In the modern world, anyway (last time I checked), the only way truly significant electromagnetic pulses are created is when a large nuclear weapon is detonated at higher altitudes. While this wouldn't be too much of an issue on the offensive, detonating dozens of hydrogen bombs above the surface of one of your last strongholds probably wouldn't be as good of an idea. But I haven't played ME, so, I dunno.

3 通の返信If it's all based off of Mass Effect technology and Reaper tech are you sure that EMP would actually work on it?

3 通の返信Reapers are hybrids fused with organic material as well as synthetic. That wasn't your regular EMP. Plus, what thousands of people dying from them falling? Most population centers were harvested or hiding somewhere else by that point, and not only in London. Anywhere in the galaxy.

1 返信I'm no genius but I believe Reapers are made from organic material. I don't think an EMP would be that effective.
-
1 返信Wait, are you stupid? You ASSUME that the Crucible fires an EMP. If it was a massive EM Gun don't you think the Alliance, or anyone else in the Galaxy would say so?

4 通の返信A) source on destroy being a giant emp? B) reapers = synthetic/organic constructs made up of billions upon billions of minds each. at worst emps would kind of sort of weaken them. C) emps don't discriminate. you start emp-ing everything and you end up hitting yourself too. then you have barebones reaper vs. barebones you. and, uh, reapers win that fight fairly easily.

3 通の返信Because an EMP is basically a big Magnetic Pulse fueled by atomic sized reactions which was caused, in most cases, by fusion. EMPs vary in strength depending on the source, the sun sends out an EMP which sometimes interfere with technology but a nuclear blast would not have an EMP of that range. The Crucible was a powerful source intended to disable thousands of Reapers at once. There were countless Reapers that outnumbered the galaxy and made conventional warfare with them impossible. By the time they killed off Reaper in another planet, a planet somewhere else falls. SO even if the galaxy made an EMP big enough, they did not have enough numbers to take on the entire Reaper armada. Hell we don't even know if only a part of the Reapers came to the galaxy while others remained in the dark. Or even if they are from this Galaxy.

16 通の返信Imagine since it's energy that can potential control the Reapers it's not an EMP. Maybe kinda like Overload where it just -blam!-s the shit up?...couldn't come up with a more science-y term besides "-blam!-s the shit up"...
