The steam winter sale has arrived, and I have been thinking about getting into the fallout series. I really only want to get one of the two games, but I don't know which one would be the better entry to the series.
Thus I end up asking you guys, which of the two deserves my money more?

I would say both. If you can only get one I suggest Fallout: New Vegas. For some reason that game just has so much more draw and things to do compared to Fallout 3. Which is saying a lot because I thought Fallout 3 was pretty cool.

New Vegas has more guns, crafting, 4 endings, survival mode and is generally more challenging than Fallout 3. Fallout 3 on the other hand has a waaaaayyyyy better atmosphere and setting. The broken steel and point lookout dlc are also kickass.

Fallout 3 shat on the legacy of the previous games. It had a great setting though. New Vegas is more in line with the previous games, had multiple factions that had personality, and is ultimately the better game, even though the desert isn't as good a setting as the Capital Wasteland.

NV offers more and is more intricate I guess. FO3 has a more interesting storyline and setting. They're both great games that have something the other one doesn't have. NV has better dlc I think, Lonesome Road is just awesome.

Fallout 3 for mods and stuff. Plus they have a joint mod between the two fallouts. New Vegas has a lot better everything except in story. Personally, fallout 3 if you've never played either of the two. I like New Vegas better but F3 is just better if your new to fallout.

It basically has no characters either. NV on the other hand, has a solid main story, some awesome factions and plenty of interesting characters, especially some of the followers. In NV your choices also have a considerable impact on the world whereas in FO3, hardly anything mattered. On top of that, NV also makes a lot more sense in the overall FO universe, FO3 tripped up on this at a number of points. NV also has more content. The gameplay is pretty similar in both games, with a few improvements in NV, so it has the edge on that as well. In fact I'd say the only thing FO3 has over NV is the setting.
