Fifteen people on their way to a wedding in Yemen were killed in an air strike after their party was mistaken for an al-Qaida convoy, local security officials said on Thursday.
The officials did not identify the plane in the strike in central al-Bayda province, but tribal and local media sources said that it was a drone.
"An air strike missed its target and hit a wedding car convoy, 10 people were killed immediately and another five who were injured died after being admitted to the hospital," one security official said.
Five more people were injured, the officials said.
The United States has stepped up drone strikes as part of a campaign against al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), regarded by Washington as the most active wing of the militant network.
Remembers those days when we had special forces that did a clean job? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

6 通の返信All of those killed in the incident might not have been civilians. It is now thought that some of those in the wedding party were, in fact, AQAP fighters.

Special Forces? Unless that convoy had high ranking members in it, there wouldn't be any American personnel within miles. Before you pull out your drone hate, attacks like these used to be done with smart bombs and cruise missiles. Before that, it was "precision" bombs. Whole villiages used to disappear then. Drones actually have less 'collateral damage' than before.

Not meaning to offend Americans, but they have never been clever with their air force. In WWII, they were described as to have leveled cities instead of taking out select strategic points, resulting in the death of civilians. It's not new, just the media is reporting on it now. I am against conflict, but if air support is needed, it's better that its an unmanned aircraft than a manned one. It basically has the same effect, but if it crashes that's one less soul lost.

For all the advanced technology, drones have been having an insane amount of collateral damage. I wonder what the hell the people selecting the targets are thinking. They certainly have far too little regard for human life and the consequences of making such huge blunders. If I were king, I'd suspend drone use, fire anyone involved in the intelligence process that led to these vehicles being targeted, and start using them a lot more selectively.

1 返信*Sigh*. So stupid to continue these drone strikes. I'm sure they'll continue labeling all males over the age of 18 as militants right?

didn't we just have one of these be fake a month or so ago. Where RPG rounds exploded in a civilian apartment, and they reported it as american missile attack kills however many civilians, but it was just misinformation which is pretty damn smart. Win the public relations battle

7 通の返信I'm pretty sure the military does this on purpose. Think about it. By doing things like this regularly, they create more people who join Al Qaeda. By making sure that Al Qaeda always remains growing and strong, they make sure that they can justify increases in their own budget, putting more money into the pockets of backers of the military industrial complex.
