According to the Game Informer article, you can only wear one piece of exotic gear at a time.
"Characters can only wield one exotic weapon and ONE EXOTIC ARMOR PIECE, but you can carry as many as you like, and switch between them at your leisure."
WTF?!?! In every other loot based game you can wear as much exotic (Legendary) gear as you can fit on your character. IE...Diablo, WoW, etc...
Why can you not wear all exotic gear: Helmet, gloves, chest, robe, cape, etc...that you have slots for?
EDIT: 4 DEC 13 9:50AM CST
I can understand in PvP only being able to wear one piece of exotic gear, but not in the single player. What is the point of them constantly saying you can become legend and show off your baddassery, if you can only do it one piece at a time?

Gladにより編集済み: 12/4/2013 8:24:34 PMBest news I've heard recently. This makes me think that exotic weapons and armor might actually be exotic in this game. If the player must choose one, it adds meaning to the piece and your character. For instance, do you favor the named exotic gun that's saved your butt time and again, or do you cheat on her with shiny exotic socks?

1 返信Closing Time, an Exotic weapon makes you invisible when zooming in and you can snipe ammo drops, as to allow you to stay in the safety of your area. Now, imagine if you could equip 2 other exotic weapons that had amazing bonuses like that? Red Death that gives you increased health regeneration, and the wolf rocket launcher, which deploys sentries. We don't even know what exotic armour would do for you, but imagine the possibilities. Boots that increase your movement speed or give you infinitie sprint. Chest that gives you more health. A helmet that gives you resistance to headshots. Arms that increase your damage. The possibilities are endless. You'd have a freaking beast of a character if you had all these exotics. I think exotics won't be as rare as some people think they are, but they'll offer great bonuses. As to make your character not overpowered as -blam!-, Bungie is limiting the amount of exotics you can equip. So instead of increased health, speed, damage, you can only choose one of those things, and then you pick an exotic weapon that fits your playstyle, rather than having a weapon to use in every situation you'll ever be in to safeguard yourself from ever being killed.

TrashNuggetにより編集済み: 12/28/2013 9:52:10 AM1 thing that the commenters are forgetting here. weapon/gear trees. the exotics aren't OP out of the gate, they will reach their full potential when you get to the end of the said weapon/gear's tree.

2 通の返信Spartan Ken 15により編集済み: 12/4/2013 3:38:22 PMLimitations on things like that is stupid. I have a feeling that competitive multiplayer for Destiny will not work and will not be fun if Bungie has to force players all on a "level playing field" while giving them constantly better weapons and content. If I find a bunch of rare weapons and armor, I want to equip it and take down a bunch of hard enemies and fight in dangerous locations. Dumbing it down is really lame and defeats the purpose of finding a bunch of cool stuff.

As already pointed out in another post, this aint so bad, this actually says to me that Exotic items in Destiny are actually going to be Proper Legendary shit unlike in other games, I would suspect the Exotic drops will be rare as hell and give Godly stat boosts to your char, so to keep it balanced PvE or PvP I think it makes sense.

1 返信Exotic armor pieces could possibly give EXTREMELY overpowered abilities to your guardian. Not just high protection. Thy don't want the game to be TO easy...
-
Maybe this part of a way to slightly balance the whole your gear is used in competitive multiplayer issue. If you had all legendary items and others didn't in competitive MP the gameplay wouldn't have a balance. I.E. someone jumping into competitive MP right after starting the game.

You're mentioning Diablo and WoW in your post, two games I have played quite frequently. In both of those games, there becomes a standard, a set of weapons and armor and if you don't have, you fall far behind the rest. I am more than happy with this system because it's going to stress uniqueness, and it's going to fall into with the desire that when someone pops into your game, they tell a story with how they look, what they're using, and what they're blowing heads off with. Not to mention, the current gear that we know is... incredibly overpowered. Far more so than I've seen in most of the games out thus far, so I can also understand the balance system. Not to mention, it's not as though they're telling us two decent items, and the rest is shit. It is simply that we well get to use Premiums and then two awesome exotics.

2 通の返信I think you may be underestimating the value/power of exotics. Exotic:"Strikingly, excitingly, or mysteriously different or unusual" OR; "Of or relating to striptease." I'm personally hoping for the latter. In a world as large as Bungie's shooting for, an "excitingly unusual" piece should be truly rare and just overpowered enough to make you grin like a child. Thoughts?

What I mean is there is no need for it, so why have it. In some cases it probably won't make sense to have some of the exotic stuff you have equipped, thus only being able to have one at a time. I'm not going to equip an exotic shotgun when I'm fighting enemies at mid to long range. I'm not going to equip an exotic chest plate (assuming that is an equipable area) for a long range fight if a helmet gives me better bonuses for a long range weapon. IMO these class specific "focuses" are going to be what makes your character good, not an over saturation of exotic items, which is possibly another reason they are being limited. People are going to be too worried about the gear and not the other aspects of the game.

2 通の返信It could be that we're borrowing trouble over something that may be little more than a poor choice of words. From a purely aesthetic standpoint, it makes no sense to me that they would make an entire set of exotic armor, then allow you to wear only one piece of it at a time. If I had to guess, I'd say this could mean one of several possibilities. Perhaps each piece from the same set has the same bonus & the effects aren't cumulative so, while you can wear the whole set together, you get no added bonus for doing so. Or, perhaps each piece has its own bonus/effect, which is what you get when it's equipped first. That way, if you have the set & you put the boots on first, you get the boots' bonus, or you can equip the helmet first and get its bonus. Both of these options would allow one to wear a whole set without min-maxing. Another possibility is that only one of the pieces in the set is actually considered exotic & the rest are of superior quality. Another possibility that I could come up with on such short notice is that exotic armor pieces are not, in fact, part of a set, but are truly unique. In any event, if the wording in the article is correct, I'm pretty sure Bungie has worked out the details in such a way where you can wear more than one piece of the same exotic set at one time. To do otherwise just for the sake of balance shows a glaring lack of foresight and is, quite frankly, a cop-out... I have a hard time believing that Bungie would expend all this time and effort on polishing this game and leave such a huge loose end dangling like that.

they also mentioned that you will be able to change your equipment often, perhaps often enough to mitigate not having ALL exotic pieces of armor. perhaps the choice of which exotics you have equipped will work with your chosen focus. so having one piece of exotic armor with great base stats and a focus buff, along with one exotic weapon with great stats and a focus buff will mean hat having too many pieces of exotic armor/weapons will definitely cause a DBZ effect. this also nods towards what they mentioned when they said that your choices of weapons and armor will speak to your playstyle, and other players will recognize this.

6 通の返信This is actually a good thing. Think about if you ran through the story with exotic everything. It wouldn't be fun or challenging. This way will force you to think tactfully about what piece of armor you decide and what weapon. This also stops people from being too far superior in PvP. Someone geared with all top tier armor an weapons versus someone geared all exotic would get completely destroyed. Everytime.
