Games are getting more expensive to make every year. To make up the money for the cost of creating the games they will begin holding back more and more content. Eventually there will be no "good" microtransactions.
Go ahead and stay in denial. THIS IS A REALITY.

3 通の返信Games are getting more expensive to make? I guess publishers better stop putting 40% of the budget into marketing...

2 通の返信Used games are a huge source of revenue for the industry, as far as simple math goes. 60$ - 10$ + 45$ - 7$ + 30$ = 118$ It is better for companies like Gamestop and Best Buy to sell used games. It makes a 60$ game worth 118$. Also it is good for the consumer, allowing them to get games at cheaper prices. This boosts sales even more. Instead of buying a 60$ game, maybe a possible customer buys 2 used games at 45$ a piece. 90$ > 60$ That is just from the viewpoint of the average gamer. I am sure I might be a little off base and someone who knows more about it will correct me.

1 返信I don't think you understand. Games are brought by retailers, and the retailers make most of money from sales. Otherwise how will they earn a profit? Whether or not its used, a percentage of sales go to company while most goes to retailer. Even DLC is split between MS and company. So its not a matter of used games, its a matter of how many stocks of game can be brought.
-
No. What needs to go is the thought that every game needs to have an overblown budget just so it can be a huge seller. Not every game that comes out needs to be super impressive and amazing and a GOTY contender. Developers are also getting less creative. Most of them just try copying what other popular games do (like CoD), instead of trying their own things to make their games unique and worth getting. They also need to stop over casualizing their games just so they can appeal to more people. It's that wider audience that buys games used or buys a game then switches back over to CoD. Actual gamers are the ones who support their favorite developers.

It's so amazing how consumers will defend a developers/publishers who have done nothing but shit on them again and again. After MW2 had it's billion dollar opening, many developers who didn't have the fraction of money that activision has, began pouring money into game development. On top of this mismanagement, you had companies using extremely unethical models that burned up whatever good will they had with gamers. (see, Capcom). The reason squareenix is in trouble is not because of used games. It's because they pulled stunts like spending over 100 million on making tomb raider. That game sold 3 million units and still failed to brake even. thats madness. They also continued to ignore doing the most obvious things to make money. How long have fans been begging them for a remake of ff7? A new kingdom hearts game? (yeah we finally got that one.) Another fine example is capcom. I won't even go into all the shit they pulled this generation. Lets just say that when a company that owns monster hunter is in financial trouble, it's time to fire some idiots at the top. The saints row developers got sunk by ONE game. This "putting all eggs in one paper cup" practice is whats killing devs, NOT used games. Stop defending their bullshit.
-
nope. Used games can stay. Developers who spend obscene amounts of money on development/marketing, but then complain when their game doesn't sell 100 million units on day one, need to go. Nobody told all these developers to spend 100 million dollars on making a videogame. This all started after MW2 had it's billion dollar launch. Suddenly, everyone figured "hurr, we don't have activision money, but lets spend a buttload on a game thats not even interesting.". I'm disappointed that people would actually side with these developers/publishers. I'm sure some people out there would look at the microtransactions of forza 5 and think "well yeah there's nothing wrong with that.". If such a thing becomes standard, i'd just quit gaming.

BerzerkCommandoにより編集済み: 12/1/2013 12:35:36 PMThe amount of games that would have to be traded in and then bought to hurt developers is impractical. We're talking about thousands or millions of people trading in their game and then the about the same amount buying them. Also every used game that gets bought was a new sale. So the developers already made their money from that copy. What hurts developers is when they are making games that people are not buying. The whole used game thing is nothing more than the developers blaming something else for their games doing bad and not them. Look at Ride to Hell: Retribution. Is that game selling bad because of used games? No it's selling bad because it's a shit game.
We must say goodbye to used games so companies get more profit and leave out Micros.
Which is funny because GTA 5 has them and they made over 1billion withing 2 days of the games release. They are nothing more than the company being greedy. GTA 4 didn't have them and the game still did well. The whole point off them is that you have people that will buy them. It's like with DLC now. Instead of making DLC that's worth being a DLC you have developers cutting content from games just to make an extra dollar. If used games really do hurt them then the gaming industry would be long dead by now.

1 返信1) Companies will continue to use micro transactions and dlc, why? Because they can... People will still buy them and its a great way to boost profits 2) Blocking the sale of used games will lead to stores being closed (CEX in the uk for example would surely fail were it not for used game sales) and do you think the employees of these stores would continue buying games without any wages? Doubt it. 3) Used games is actually a pretty good advertising method for games developers for example I recently picked up dark souls second hand, I didn't know whether or not I'd like it so didn't want to pay for it new, and I've really enjoyed it and will definitely consider buying dark souls 2.

"Games are getting more expensive to make every year." I somewhat agree. Games are a lot larger than they were so I would assume it costs more to make them. On one hand you have studios going out of business. On the other hand you have some that feel that a snack bar, nap area, etc is what the business needs (unnecessary costly items). I do feel that some studios have budgets that far exceed what is needed. I mean look at Metro Last Light. The amount that was put into that game was peanuts compared to most AAA titles. Do some of these companies need to tighten their belts rather than blame it on used games? I think in part yes.

1 返信Who the hell bumped this? These are the same people who think DRM is good thing, and that game manipulation by an individual on an offline system should be met with the same criminal consequences as mass piracy. Your shillery knows no bounds.

2 通の返信I don't care. I rarely get games at launch anyway, so used is better for me anyway.

1 返信content is held back because it's CHOSEN to be held back. microtransactions are just there because they're there and are continuing to appear more frequently because people keep buying it. it has nothing to do with used games. hell, the whole reason they exist is BECAUSE of digital games, starting with free to play games, whose only way to make a profit is through microtransactions. a typical retail game is $60 (on console anyway) on either way you pay, online or at the store. I would also like to see the sources where you found info on microtransactions on watchdogs, destiny, and GT6.

10 通の返信You know, you don't hear auto manufacturers or film producers complaining about used car/movie sales. The gaming industry is literally the only one that I'm aware of that has such a massive hard-on about banning these sales.
-
8 通の返信People always defend the used game market, but look at Steam for example. Steam has absolutely no used game market, and every gamer loves them. Why? Because Steam can afford to offer their games at INSANELY good prices with frequent sales. When someone buys a used game from Gamestop, the developer and publisher get none of that profit. That all goes to the retailer. This is why EA started requiring online passes in their titles. That's also why games are $60. Companies are losing so much money to used games that they have to jack up the price of the base game and micro transactions. If we kill the used game market, not only will micro transactions become less prevalent, the prices of games could actually decrease in the future. Although, we'd have to trust Microsoft and Sony to not remain greedy bastards in that aspect.
-
2 通の返信Developers holding back content for use in microtransactions isn't to do with used content, it's to do with greed and people buying into that shit. Microtransactions, in my opinion, are only acceptable when it's cosmetic only, and the game is free to play. DOTA 2 is the perfect example for this. If you've paid for the game, no content should be held back to make MORE money.
-
8 通の返信Hunterにより編集済み: 11/27/2013 3:25:24 PMNo, they don't "need" to go. Piracy is the main reason developers/publishers are losing money. And micro-transactions and day-one/month-one DLC is just them being greedy.
-
1 返信gta v earned buckets of money. they arent running short on money at rockstar, the reason companies pit micro transactions in games, is so they can make even more money because people are stupid enough to buy them.

I willing to pay $60 for a new game that I really want. But I am only willing to pay maybe $15 on a game I've never heard of. Such as I wouldn't buy a new blu ray movie for $25 if I have never heard of it. I'd wait to buy it at Wal-Mart in the $5 bin.
