While intelligence is a very difficult thing to measure, it can be obvious whether or not somebody in generally more intelligent and/or in specific areas of interest. Barring a few subjects, I'm quite a bit more intelligent than my girlfriend, especially so in things like history, philosophy and politics. I don't think I could date someone more intelligent, simply for the sake of my ego.
